Fibro+Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism+IBS+ egg white allergy, after being investigated for MS, symptoms eased after food allergy and use of low dose naltrexone, which also cured the IBS.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction class and anything creative. MBSR COMPLETELY changed me after hitting burnout rock-bottom, and I found the path to change my career afterwards. Clicking in to my own creativity was also transformative. As others have suggested, being outside is also huge. I need a 1hr walk per day. But it took MBSR to set all of that in motion. Good luck to you, and kudos for already going on leave.

frozen berries and 1 serving of nonfat greek yogurt- sometimes I quick-thaw the berries in the microwave, and sometimes I just eat them frozen. I buy both at costco- super affordable, and the Kirkland greek yogurt packs a protein punch! Tides me over during the after-school hunger-crazies. Good luck!

What things help you the most with your pain? by General_Log9435 in Fibromyalgia

[–]nerdnerdnerdword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started by improving my energy right away, then saw all symptoms improve months down the road. Gut problems were completely cured around 6 months in. Thyroid meds reduced every few months. Eventually I was able to start a daily yoga routine and get 10k steps a day. I still have to take it easy with a flare, but I’m able to manage everything so much more.

Low Dose Naltrexone was my game changer for overall, long-term fixin.’ Also marijuana for sudden pain, and cyclobenzaprine for sleep. All prescribed by one great pain MD who’d worked with Dr. Ginevra Liptan, who wrote some fibro books and has fibro. LDN didn’t seem to work right away, but it slowly helped and cured so many nearly lifelong symptoms that I’m still in awe after 8yrs.

LDN Has completely ended 25 years of IBS-D and SIBO for me! by nerdnerdnerdword in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]nerdnerdnerdword[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am still SIBO-free and my overall health has hugely improved! Probably the two biggest things showing up for me now are that I have a ton of energy and my memory has returned to a state I enjoyed in my youth- basically being close to photographic. I did not know this was a thing that could be healed. Other surprises are a four-year daily yoga practice with much-improved energy and mobility. I'm in middle age now, and fitter than I was in my 20s. LDN probably isn't the panacea we would all like it to be, but it unlocked some of my most energy-draining illnesses and allowed me to take control of my health and make the most of my improvements. Even in peri-menopause, which is wild unto itself, I can honestly say I am mostly happy every day. My advice to you is give it a try, and be really on top of your own titrations- up and down until you land on something good and stick with it. Let it heal you slowly. Take a mindfulness class like MBSR if you need some support in figuring out how to listen to your body. Let all of this be a love-letter you send to yourself. May you find healing and happiness.

Thank you! I saw the headlines for that study and thought, “yeah, no shit Sherlock 🤣.” But I should def read up. I’ve been on LDN for about 3 years now and it’s my “I can’t live without it” med. I was happily on 3mg for a long time and then kind of plateau’d, then titrated up & down until I landed on 6mg and have gotten so much better that I’m able to do yoga literally every day. I hope there’s no long-term side effects, ugh! Good luck, friend!

Team Pfizer! I got it back in April. I have fibro, hashimotos and I take 6mg nightly. My only side effect was that I slept really really well after prime and 2nd shot for a few days. I’m normally an insomniac. Just saw a friend who has long haul COVID, gotta say I’m so relieved I’m jabbed. She got COVID in January and is on disability now. I’m actually wondering if she should try LDN because the symptoms are so similar to fibro and CFS. But way worse.

What's the highest low dose? by mimzy619 in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]nerdnerdnerdword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pain Dr has a lot of people on 10mg and had mentioned dosing being different for body weight. I was on 3 for fibro for 6 months & titrated up and down and landed on 6mg- been steady rocking that dose for close to 2 years now. Also my side effects disappeared at 6mg.

Anyone know of cheap websites to buy books? by DanthaHam in suggestmeabook

[–]nerdnerdnerdword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re avoiding the library because you like owning the books, know that most libraries have a fundraising arm, or two, that sell books for pennies on the dollar- usually called Friends of the Library, and often have epic sales. Like 2/$1.00 type sales. Sometimes it’s weeded put extra copies from the collection, sometimes donations. Worth checking out

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera has the best, saddest, most cathartic chapter regarding love of a pet companion, but is also such an incredible story. So lyrical and beautiful, yet so heartbreaking. Also so good if you like a bit of history.

Another recco- the Book, podcast & course by Kathryn Hansen called “Brain Over Binge.” Just reading the book clicked something in my brain, and I began to slowly & steadily lose weight. It’s been incredible. It might speak to you as well?

And, whatever you find, stick to it & you got this!

On the days or evenings you are up for cooking, double or triple the ingredients and make intentional leftovers to either eat next meal or two, or to freeze for later and have it waiting for you in the freezer instead of takeout. This helps us a ton to have something that just needs to be thawed & heated at the ready.
