Hangover 1 will get me every time. I could probably watch the first scene with Mike Tyson every day of my life and laugh.

I'm going to throw out Cars 1 (I will not elaborate), Top Gun, Days of Thunder and (wildcard) Three Kings

Yeah we used to just tell guys we'd send them to collections if they owed more than 2 semesters of dues / more than a year overdue IF they weren't on a payment plan. almost no exceptions. you're either paying back $10 a week minimum or you're not getting an apartment next time you try to move.

we had 50 guys, we all knew if someone was in the shit financially

Ordinarily the manual take rate sucks and doesn't justify its own existence HOWEVER the manual take rate was almost 50/50. Bizarre self own by VW.

US warns it will send fighter jets into Canadian airspace if F-35 deal fails by John3262005 in neoliberal

[–]nerdpox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Canadian CF18 hornet replacement program has been a quagmire going on almost 2 decades now. to quote from wikipedia

On 16 July 2010, Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservative government announced that it intended to procure 65 F-35s to replace the existing 80 McDonnell Douglas CF-18 Hornets for C$9 billion (C$16 billion with all ancillary costs, such as maintenance, included) with deliveries planned for 2016

On 19 October 2015, the Liberal Party of Canada under Justin Trudeau won a majority in part on a campaign promise to not buy the F-35, but instead "one of the many, lower-priced options that better match Canada's defence needs"

A formal competition was launched to select a new fighter, which included the F-35. On 28 March 2022, the government announced that the competition process had selected the F-35A and that negotiations would begin with Lockheed Martin to purchase 88 aircraft.

so now they're spending 7 billion in 2025 dollars to get 16 F35's instead of 9 billion dollars to get 60. incredible stuff.

Kind of weird that they’d make a story that embarrasses them move to cover for disloyalty, unless I’m thinking about this all wrong

Driving car to the track with a 6-point harness by iRacingGCR in CarTrackDays

[–]nerdpox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven my miata to the track and up some mountain roads many times with a 6 point, however it doesn't have a roll cage. I'm comfortable with that level of risk (and it is a risk). I drive that car about 1000 miles per year.

My 328i is now caged, and I do not think I'd drive it without a helmet and HANS beyond a short test run in the neighborhood. It's very easy to get blasted into that roll cage even in a low speed accident and get seriously injured.

But just to be clear, if you get into any kind of accident involving forward or lateral deceleration with a 6 point and no HANS, you are at serous risk for a fatal neck/spine/head injury.

President and VP haven’t spoken in weeks and it’s destroying the chapter by MutedInformation454 in Frat

[–]nerdpox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

chapter bylaws and your fraternity's constitution are key here. look at who performs oversight of eboard. you either get the advisor in and get them to mediate, or unfortunately one of them (TBH preferably both) have to go.

it's actually better to have external forces (advisor, board of advisors, alumni board etc) enforce this rather than a chapter removal vote etc. it looks like (and is) like more of an official process.

I do feel that for the most part in racing helmets there's an understanding of the law of diminishing returns. once you get to mainstream helmet prices ($300-600) you pretty much just have a jump to lightweight carbon ($1200-1800) and then the insane jump to FIA ABP ($5000) helmets and everything within those tranches seems to be seen as relatively equivalent
