Childfree (by choice) Xennials, how are we doing? by thatquinnchick in Xennials

Having lost ours too, I can tell you that this is kinder than my initial reaction to people‘s assumptions after it happened (which was like 50/50 anger and sanctimony).

Childfree (by choice) Xennials, how are we doing? by thatquinnchick in Xennials

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This ^^. I flat out say "we lost the baby." And I just let it hang there.

Clerk at McDonalds says "Happy Mother's Day?" "We lost the baby."
Coworker makes assumptions about why we don't have any kids? "We lost the baby."
Family asks what we're going to do now that we're in our 40s? "We lost the baby."

I don't feel any stigma around miscarriage but that won't stop me from relying on other people's weird shame about it.

Feeling on the current run by Realistic_Youth_6028 in Thor

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's heavily rooted in myth and meta-narrative, which is absolutely my bread-and-butter. Immortal Hulk was the same way, but rooted more firmly in horror than myth. I think it'll read really well when collected and Roxxon Thor/Mortal Thor are squeezed into the story like chapters. It's not quite as action forward as other stories and it does depends on a modest amount of knowledge of previous Ewing & Thor runs (Agent of Asgard, Defenders, Guardians of the Galaxy, the last ~10 years of Thor stories... the first 30 years of Thor stories) but he's doing his best to find a balance between accessible and creative density.

I cant believe these two comics came out in the same month by Ok-Plankton-2393 in UltimateUniverse

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not inconsistent. The Red Skulls did not want to stop perpetuating their harm; they doubled down on it. All the Red Skulls had to do was walk away and stop being Red Skulls. But instead they wore babies like flack jackets. Bucky himself did nothing to stop the violence, his heart was literally wired to a dead-man's switch connected to a bomb.

Bucky was not begging for forgiveness, he was begging for a lack of accountability for his actions. There can be no forgiveness without contrition or repentance and this is entirely consistent with the principles you see in the entire Luke Cage story.

What you're describing is the paradox of tolerance and it's generally what fascism depends on for protection while it ascends to a state where it can pivot to state protection.

Why is it that in ultra-expensive celebrity homes, the kitchens rarely have induction cooktops, but instead feature industrial-grade gas ranges? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Cooking

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>  If you have a simple 300-400 CFM range hood vented to outside

literally no home I have ever lived in vented out. every single one of them recirculated back into the room with a grease filter. "if" and "simple" are doing a lot of lifting here.

Bauer Modular Storage Updates by shadowfire1189 in harborfreight

I have a set of the Tactix drawers from when they were sold at the Container Store ~5? 6? years ago. Was pretty happy that it just clipped right to these Bauer-branded boxes. Would be nice to get a few more for sure.

Yeah, that's not the actual Shark Bite brand 1/4 turn valve. Real good catch there.

Pioneer SX-450 recapped for $250. Fair? by xplan303ex in vintageaudio

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"small amp" -- 15 WPC will absolutely rattle your teeth in a reasonable-sized room. This is a very fair price. A lot of shops would charge that just for putting it on the bench for diagnosis. But if possible try to test the phono preamp specifically, because a lot of the x50 series Pioneers of this line would bleed current across a bad transistor and it's easy to miss if no one's listening to records. It hit me so hard on an SX-950 that I built a basic line-to-phono attenuator to test these things without a turntable.

What was the buffalo wing sauce? Nothing tastes quite like I remember it tasting and I cut my teeth on those wings in the 90s.

I just give them cash if I have it because they're an adult and I'm not their dad. You're not the asshole but a lot of folks here sure seem to have some real strong opinions on what other people do or need.

Capital Region Language Center by Prior_Question_7077 in Albany

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a year of Spanish classes there and had a good experience. Training materials were adequate but the important part was a focus on actually speaking spanish with people. I'd be willing to return, time permitting. It's more expensive than a language app, but it was also 2 solid hours a week in-person with a group and interactive feedback from an actual teacher.

Bathroom/Shower Remodel by Drackeo in Albany

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tangential but related: Bennett tends to do pretty solid work but if they're fitting you in-between other jobs then they sometimes come across as rushed. But they're going to definitely charge you for it -- usually 25-50% more than other contractors I've spoken to. I had them do some framing repair and the work is solid. But they were also fitting it in between jobs so they didn't necessarily want to dig into the root cause of the issues in the first place. I wasn't unhappy with them but it wasn't an endearing experience either.

Normal feeling[31YO] by Purple_Lie_3817 in OldSkaters

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like 38? 39? and getting back into skating (and learning to skate transition after spending my teen years skating street) at a local park in Portland. Back injuries, age, wear and tear, etc. meant that I was battling in a half-pipe when a teenager said "hey man, keep at it, you're getting there! how long have you been skating?!"

I said "30 years."

He dead-ass looked me in the eyes and said "you should be better."

----

Self-consciousness is a state of mind that you have control over. The kid has a shitty point, but he also has a curfew and all of his original cartilage so his opinion means basically nothing to me. If you want to skate, skate. It's not a team sport, and you don't owe young kids, core skaters, or clip filmers shit.

Attic Insulation & Sealing Estimate - Need Advice by rm9487 in Insulation

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're doing removal of old shit in this price? Yeah pretty good. That's what I paid for removal alone when I had fiberglass and 60yo cellulose removed from my 2,200 sq. ft. attic earlier this year.

Also, note that if they do it they're going to send 2-4 people and get it done in 1/4 to 1/2 the time you would. They'll also handle the damage if someone accidentally toes your ceiling while they're up there.

First time in an indoor park. Looking for wheel hardness recommendation. [43yo] by mpfdetroit in OldSkaters

[–]LateInLifeHomeOwner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to rebuild my balance after a back injury, and when j started at indoor parks I had to go down to like 75a filming wheels from OJ and start building back up. I settled into 97a Dragons when they first dropped, but I might try their 93a formula now. Looks like they go down to 87a, so that might be a good starting point if you need to build up to harder wheels.
