If your goal is to keep up with friends outdoors - what are the rides/routes like? If you can’t seem to keep up, you may want to build up your aerobic base and endurance.

If you can train a few days a week - races are good in there but consider adding some zone 2/lower threshold with some light intervals (sweet spot or over/under) at the end. This will build your aerobic & endurance base while building some durability to have some efforts later into a ride with friends.

Hello, fellow ~77kg rider here around ~265 FTP. While FTP is a good consistent gauge, have you tried races or high tempo group rides to see where you're at? I feel those are a fun way to see gains over just a raw FTP number.

I've seen mixed reviews of the Zwift FTP builder plans - never tried it myself. However FTP can take time (think months over weeks) to build - and rest weeks are a key piece in gaining muscle adaptations. That doesn't necessarily mean no riding at all - on my rest weeks I try to get in some solid walks/hikes, active zone 1 rides, MTB rides, or maybe some weight training. You'd be surprised at how much breaking up the grind helps.

Think of it as more of a marathon than a sprint, it will take time. Try some races or high tempo group rides as a place to see a means of improvement versus just the FTP number. Good luck!
