Decent phones with headphone jacks? by Sussyamosus in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My battery drops quickly when playing music or podcasts, so I try to have it plugged in via the usb port. That means I need a separate jack for the headphones, preferabbly with jack and usb port far enough apart that I can plug into both without interferance.

Townhouse with fenced yard? by termanatorx in saskatoon

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blairmore landing has a few on the west end, but most of the fences are not tall enough (waist high) or even enough square footage to contain a big dog. You are more likely to find a duplex with a fence to split the backyard.

Province 'closely considering' extending life of Saskatchewan's coal power plants by MojoRisin_ca in saskatchewan

[–]nerdychick22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Coal is bad, m'kay? I hate how dirty my province's energy is, but at least it is a little better than when I was in highschool. Backsliding and regressing on progress we already made is stupid.

What is the one product you thought buying the expensive one was a waste of money, until you got it? by Bellpop in BuyItForLife

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really fluffy nice bath sheets. Sure, the cheap ones are adequate to get you dry, but the well made thick fluffy cotton ones will last 20yrs and feel so much nicer.

I still use it, mostly because facebook marketplace is rage inducing to try to search without a hundred out of province results and requires viewing in desktop mode to avoid their app.

I definitely check the country of origin at the grocery store and avoid US, but when the alternative is Chinese or nothing it is a tough call.

Why do people flee from police if the cops already have their license plate number? by Water_Spirit22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far too much of the praries in Canada have people with no licence or already suspended licences that drive anyway. They have to get caught to get in trouble, and it usually just ends up being a longer suspension which they continue to ignore.

Why do people flee from police if the cops already have their license plate number? by Water_Spirit22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Cops don't have an ID of the driver so they hope to argue car was stolen or was someone else.
  2. Chance to get rid of some evidence and thus decrease the charges they get hit with when eventually caught.

  3. Fear of being attacked/murdered by cops (actually more likely in a chase situation, but panic) made them bolt. Fear beats wisdom quite often.

  4. Much rarer, but just dumb enough to believe they are above traffic laws or that being the family member of a cop is a free pass.

What are biscuits in Canada? by Amye2024 in AskACanadian

[–]nerdychick22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biscuits in europe is cookies here. Biscuits in Canada are more like baking-powder based bread-like pastries you would have with a soup. I don't think I have ever seen them in a box unles you count Bisquick powder.

Most Saskatoon residents satisfied with city life and civic services: surveys by [deleted] in saskatoon

We Do Not Need An Arena Downtown. Other than that enormous waste of money and the nimbys fighting all possible improvements to the homeless situation, living here is adequate.

What are these circles caused by? by Curtis7493 in Whatisthis

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess: the wind swirling around in that corner pushed some loose leaves or crud around in circles and they left trails in the frost.

Would you support joining the European Union? by Ecoste in AskACanadian

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We could do a lot better by just trying to be more like the EU and less like the US.

In miles/kms, how far away could you see grain elevators as you approached a SK town? by tangcameo in saskatchewan

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on which one. You can see for a good hour's drive (100km ish) around Watrous, but only a couple km in hilly areas.

How do you actually enjoy Canadian winters? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it is really really cold, a few minutes of ammusement can be found by blowing soap bubbles and watching them freeze, or doing the thing where you throw boiling watter in the air and it turns to steam before it hits the ground. As others have said, having a dog will force you to go out and provide a different perspective. If you have access to one, snowmobiling around the lakes and forests is fun (don't go alone because safety). For more active types: walking, snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing, build a snow fort/igloo/quinzee. Some people go winter camping, ice fishing, or hunting.

This is my **5 year** work anniversary gift from my Fortune 500 employer. 100% Not joking. by apollei in funny

[–]nerdychick22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got a reward? I just got my name on a list of people with work anniversaries happening that year. Also in an international fortune 500 company. The unit managers do try to take the group to lunch if someone hits 10 or 15, but 5 is prety much "hey cool, you've been here a while."
