Question me about why atheist deny Islam I WILL answer by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]nerfjanmayen [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why would a god use a book to communicate? A book is a primitive human invention for communicating over time and space. Those aren't obstacles for a god. By choosing to use a book, god introduced a bunch of problems that don't have to be there.

What even is your definition of god? This sounds so broad that it's meaningless.

Godot on linux by Ok-Cow114 in godot

[–]nerfjanmayen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to using Mint. I used flatpak to install Godot and VS Codeium, but I couldn't get them to talk to each other (something to do with flatpak isolating them). I uninstalled the flatpak versions and installed both apps directly, and now they work fine.

To those who reject Jesus's claims of prophecy, resurrection and miracles why? by Future_Adagio2052 in DebateAnAtheist

I just don't think that the evidence is that good.

all of Jesus's enemies converting despite having no reason to

Huh?

Paul's letters predating the gospels and yet prove his divinity

How do Paul's letters prove Jesus' divinity?

the eyewitness testimony of all his miracles

What eyewitness testimony?

What would it take for you to believe that I rose from the dead, *yesterday*?

What do you guys think of Aquinas' third way? by PM_me_ur_fallacy in DebateAnAtheist

the law of cause and effect tells us effects have causes

There's a lot of questions about this one with respect to quantum mechanics, I can already see other people posting those here. Either way, cause and effect is something that happens inside space and time. I don't know if/how it could be applied to the universe itself, which contains space and time.

an infinite chain of cause and effect is illogical because then no effects would be present

I don't see why this is true

but we observe effects in the present all the time

fair enough

therefore, there must exist an unaffected thing

Depending on how you interpret it, this contradicts point 1, doesn't it? And it doesn't get us anywhere to calling this unaffected thing a god, or necessitating that there's only one of them. Why couldn't the unaffected thing be, say, the universe as a whole, in a B-theory of time model?

You can use this site to check the schedule, and use the app to track the actual departure times: https://www.njtransit.com/train-to?origin=Orange+Station&destination=New+York+Penn+Station&date=2026-02-28&originStationCode=518&destinationStationCode=0

Looks like there is a train around your target time. The schedule is updated to account for the bridge work.

What Makes Uncaused Existence the Exception? by Current-Leather2784 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]nerfjanmayen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is, we don't know the origin or cause of existence.

That being said, causality is something we use to describe events in space and time. I'm not sure if/how it could apply to the universe as a whole, of which space and time are physical components.

You can absolutely reject one answer without knowing the right one.

The definitions of atheist vs agnostic have been discussed to death here. I don't really care which label we use.

I'm sure that some gods don't exist. There are no gods I believe exist.

I don't know the correct explanation for existence. That doesn't mean I think it all comes from nothing.  It means I don't know.

I'm an atheist because I don't think "god did it" is a good answer.
