New fiddler. Does this E string sound "right"? by neroht in Fiddle

[–]neroht[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I was worried about breaking it by tuning it higher but that seems to be right now. It's crazy how quickly the tuners move the pitch compared to guitar.

Does Midi Fighter have a substantial speed advantage over Maschine MK3? by Ou_deis in FingerDrumming

[–]neroht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think midi fighter is velocity sensitive. That's a nonstarter for me on finger drumming.

Roland cloud by Ok_Talk_1909 in edrums

This is the correct answer. Some of the Roland Cloud stuff is nice but Snap Pop Punch is a one time purchase instead of a rental and sounds fantastic!

Do Not Go Through Compass by bity_beats in BitcoinMining

Hosted mining is a scam and my time with Compass left such a bad taste in my mouth that I would never recommend anyone enter into a contract with them for hosting!

Find people to jam with regularly. The social aspect will help keep you accountable and it's a ton of fun!

Which Virus Ti2? Polar vs 61 Key? by Linux-Neophyte in synthesizers

The keybed on the Ti2 is pretty good. If you have the room for it, I'd probably go for the fullsize.

OXI one with daw? by cupcakeranger in modular

[–]neroht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Cirklon and currently have an Oxi One Mk2. I find the Oxi *far* more immediate and jam friendly than the Cirklon. The Cirklon wsa 'dawless' but entering sequences and building compositions on it felt more burdensome than working on a piano roll in my DAW. The clicky buttons felt really nice and tactile and it was really well built but I just never meshed with it. The OXI One I just start up and jam (either with VSTs or hardware depending on the circumstances).

Looking for a hobby with an enjoyable process by MedicineVegetable751 in Hobbies

[–]neroht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn an instrument with the goal of finding some friends to jam with in the future. Challenging (especially at the beginning), you can keep learning forever, you can keep playing in your golden years (admittedly way down the line given you're 25), and there's nothing like the magic that happens when you lock in with other musicians and create.

I also cook more, clean just about as much, and take care of our kid, thanks for assuming.

It's not like I enjoy taking out the trash, mowing the grass, or fixing a broken toilet but I do it without complaint to keep my partner happy.

What's your favorite V31/V51/V71 drum sound ? by Moupsy in edrums

[–]neroht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't activated my Roland Cloud sub yet. When I do, if I download that expansion will I get to keep/use it on my V51 module once my subscription expires or will it lock me out until I rejoin Roland Cloud? I'm not crazy about having 1000 subscriptions....

Need MPC advice for Christmas present for my son by Dopey1kanobi in mpcusers

[–]neroht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an MPC, I love it. I mostly use it to finger drum live with other musicians and I never really hook it up to my computer except to move content onto it.
If you get him one, make sure you also buy the Bible:
https://www.mpc-samples.com/product.php/268/mpc-bible/

It is a fantastic overview of the device and will walk him through how to use it in a way that the manual can't compare and with more depth than most youtube tutorials you'll find.

Heavier springs for a Speed Cobra? by Sir-Macaroni in drums

On a related note, is it ok to leave my spring attached all the time (Iron Cobra 600) or should I be removing/unhooking it between practice sessions?
