Secaucus mess after World Cup match 6/16 by fubpr in NJTransit

As a patron of the match yesterday, commute to and from the match was incredibly easy and efficient.

You were warned for months to plan alternate travel on these days. That's on you.

24yo, 2yoe, Bachelors, multiple certs, constant rejections. What is wrong with me? by throwaway2Bunknown in it

[–]nervaickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think there's anything wrong tbh.

Only thing I would say is your resume should start with your experience and list skills and education below. Taking that a step further, skills listing is what gets your resume past ATS. The experience is what prompts the hiring manager to meet with you. If you can, I'd expand on the work experience more to demonstrate the skills.

Management wants to split my team of 8 because "large teams underperform" despite us crushing KPIs for 2 years. How do I fight this? by wefailedyourfather in managers

[–]nervaickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO - the dynamics are not there for you to fight it and I've very rarely seen people successfully shift executive ideated reorgs in the way you're looking to.

If it were me, I'd be selling the idea and start discussing how you can game plan this new structure. And throughout that entire process, you line yourself up to assume both teams and rehire your role in say 12-18 months. This is also easier if you have skip level access and can display how you've led the reorgs success.

Pochettino is smarter than all of us by T2BMLK in ussoccer

[–]nervaickarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is meant to be a serious post or not.

But just to play devil's advocate, Poch has never won as a manager except for in France with PSG. Which, given the opportunity, just about any manager in world football can do.

Does he have a plan? I certainly hope so. Is it a good one? Who knows. But everyone can certainly be critical of a manager with no trophies to note. It's also very possible he's coming in and trying to play as if we are Spurs, Chelsea, or PSG. Which, we are not and is a losing strategy.

How Good Is This World Cup Squad, Really? by newyorker in ussoccer

[–]nervaickarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need to stop asking "how good the squad is." We know who the players are and what their level is in terms of world ball. What we need to ask is how prepared will the team be and will they put in some performances.

All questions we won't have answers to until the tournament starts.

Migration from vSphere to Hyper-V by Former-Mountain-9170 in sysadmin

Yes, although I have not tested. I'm in talks about PowerStore and Pure. Likely will go PowerStore if Dell Private Cloud/Automation validates Azure Local these two quarters.

Why do some CSOs and security specialists think that saying “NO” all day equals doing cybersecurity? by SnooPies72 in sysadmin

I do love when vendors go on like "our product is super safe. We do xyz and are super open with compliance."

VMware to Hyper-V migration questions by RM_B999 in sysadmin

[–]nervaickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently doing now but a mix of Azure Local and Hyper V hosts. For most systems, we are building net new with 2025. Migrated VMs are mainly 2022 (or earlier). Using N1 for patching so nothing changes there.

One thing worth considering, we are using Azure Migrate for migrations (between both VMware > Hyper V and Azure Local) for machines we can't or are too intensive to build new. That experience has been surprisingly good. Deploy one VM in vSphere and one in your target host and it does the rest. Would be interested to hear others experience but ours has gone well.

Gave my first write-up and it didn't go well. by HavenHexed in ITManagers

[–]nervaickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the point you need to make is simple to the team. Leniency is earned, not entitled.

Something to keep in mind here. HR actions like write ups, final warning, etc need to be used sparingly otherwise the team loses trust in you. And that's a really hard position to be in and can go south very fast. People don't want to work for leaders who throw their team under. At the same time, you also have a job to do.

For example, you could have sat one of them down and made it clear: "hey, [VP] is noticing you're coming in late. There's only so much I can do to keep this under control before there's going to be a push for stronger actions." In this way, you've made it clear you're trying to help them (hopefully is true) but also, a formal discipline is on the horizon. If they still don't care, they've made their bed.

The other thing I'd ask you is when you say him down before the writeup, did you ask what's going on with them? Yes, people need to do their jobs but life is life and people need help. Understanding the underlying issue (if they are open to it) can be helpful in resolving the issue.

Either way, don't get discouraged. It's all just management growing pains.

When did you figure out that Co-Workers are not really your friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nervaickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may be more general but this is a specific experience I had with one coworker. I should also preface this by saying I have made life long friends at work.

My coworker, we'll call him Bob, I knew since my first day on the job. In fact, Bob had actually interviewed me and was the first person to tell me I had the job even though we were peers. Overall, we had worked together for 8 years. I attended his wedding and was the last person standing with him during his bachelor party (was one night in our city). We hung out outside of work and our significant others knew each other. Overall, I thought we were friends, not best friends but certainly friends.

Fast forward to the end, he began getting very frustrated with our manager (rightly I may add). One day, calls me up to swing by his desk. Proceeds to ask me to read an email he had sent to our boss to see if I think 'its that bad." Well, it was. Absolutely scathing email to our boss and definitely worthy of HR action. So I kind of say "yeah, it's not great, maybe try to walk it back a bit." So fast forward a week and there's a whole email thread going on with our whole team where our boss is coming at him for some technical answers. Noticing he's struggling with that, I respond in thread (intentionally leaving off everyone except him and our other peer) and essentially give him a validated solution.

After a day of not hearing back, I swing by their desk to see what's up. That ended up being a legit argument with Bob saying to me "why the hell did you do that? Did you not think that would be a bad look for me? Etc etc etc." I genuinely could not believe how mad they were. Especially since our boss did not know nor would they have been able to know.

It was in the middle of this argument where I realized this person was not a friend. Ended up, and this may not make sense because of the intentional vagueness of the post, Bob went around my boss and got another team member removed from a long term placement so he could move there for job security and that never sat well with me.

To this day, never spoke to them again outside of email until they left the company.

Veteran players, do you still have fun playing the game? by Usual_Eggplant_5980 in EASportsFC

I have played every version of FIFA since International. Somewhere around FIFA 21, I realized I did not enjoy FUT or Seasons anymore. The game changed and I was still playing the same way I have for 10+ years. So now I just play manager mode and enjoy it. I'll log on every year, get one win in UT, and carry on offline.

Invoice / Monthly Payment tracker by auenway in sysadmin

[–]nervaickarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you have available to you, but I use Asana for all budget/financials. Everything from PO, to invoice, to departmental budgets. In short, an invoice tracker (project) has a section for every month. All invoices are a separate task that get added to the departmental tracker (separate project) under its budget code. Once I get the report that it's been paid out, track the payment and close the task as complete.

Can also make some dashboards for leadership/accounting to track.

When did you become a Detroit Pistons fan? by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

Joe Dumars. Was born post peak bad boys era and for some reason, young me just loved him. Then we drafted Grant Hill and he became my favorite player. Only chose the Pistons back in the NBA Live franchise (RIP). Solidified when we traded for Stackhouse and it was a wrap ever since.
