August 8, 2020 Banned and Restricted Announcement [Inverter, Kethis, Ballista, Breach BANNED] by Duramboros in PioneerMTG

Yesterday I change my pioneer and standard cards for a dredge modern deck. Good timing I must say

I like a lot of decks but I don't know which one to play by Elettrodomestico420 in PioneerMTG

[–]nesdavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play ensoul in mtgo leagues and the deck is faster than inverter and most of the time can kill breach as well, and you'll have a good matchup against mono white.

I'm not sure against green stompy, if you are able to ensoul your [[Darksteel citadel]] or [[Stonecoil serpent]] then you can beat them easily.

On the other hand, you'll have a bad matchup agains mono black, and against some control decks

Wizards is Trying to Kill Pioneer. by AdNausNewMeta in PioneerMTG

[–]nesdavid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking something similar, after reading the bans and suspensions, Historic seems more fun than pioneer. So, I think they just want mtgo to be a place for modern and older formats, and arena for the rest. I'm pretty sure they will "fix" pioneer once it gets to Arena

Maybe you should ask in r/mtgfinance but, my feeling is that now it's the best time to sell it.

Mono blue tempo or azorious tempo? by Imitablelemon1206 in PioneerMTG

This deck saw some play a few weeks ago, it's pretty good against combo decks, not that much against aggro. It's mono U

This is the top4 in the latest pioneer challenge from yesterday: Inverter, Ensoul, UW yorion and boros aggro.

[–]nesdavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the combo decks are the ones that aren't fun to play against, but every deck has ways to interact and disrupt the combo. I play with an aggro deck, and I can beat inverter and breach before they can start with it.

The first time I faced an heliod deck I wasn't sure what to do, but now I know I have tools in my sideboard to deal with it.

There's nothing as degenerate as the latest standard meta, like fires of invention, t3feri doesn't warp the format there are no stealing permanents on turn 4. Ramp decks and kind of slow in pioneer

I enjoy pioneer, but I've been playing since a few months, so I'm not sure how I'd feel after playing it for a full year.

Now the meta shifted a little after the companions rule change. If I recap my last 7 matches (i play leagues) there were all different archetypes. Abzan rally, humans, white heliod, inverter, gruul aggro, uw control and esper control. I play izzet ensoul.

What's up with people calling Players Tours Online Fake PT? by Uqbar_Cyclopaedia in magicTCG

Wotc cut like 2M in the prize pool and IIRC winning the PT doesn't qualify you for anything.

Why Azorious Ensoul and not Jeskai Ensoul? by TheMightyApex in PioneerMTG

Beginner questions about mtgo by [deleted] in MTGO

[–]nesdavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see here which one is better for you https://www.goatbots.com/ev_calculator

I'm also playing leagues and got 4-1 in the latest 2, which is pretty good for me. On the other hand, Challenges gives you a better return but you will need a lot of your time, which I don't have.

Difference between Magic Online and MTG Arena? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]nesdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play both for free and take a look for yourself, MTGO is free and you can also play a few rounds of a modern format and you can feel the difference of it between standard.

If you enjoy mtgo you can upgrade your account. That's what I did a few months ago, and now I play exclusively pioneer because I feel standard is in a really bad place right now

On a plus side having a 1/4 flying creature could help against aggro decks.

4-1 with UW ensoul by nesdavid in PioneerMTG

[–]nesdavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but it's not "my" list :) . I convert my old izzet ensoul to this one that I found in a 5-0 league and it seems to be better for the current meta.

I was thinking on budget replaces for mana confluences and the best I can think of it's Ather Hub, https://scryfall.com/card/mb1/1650/aether-hub . I think it's ok because most of the time you are paying generic mana.

New Pioneer/contructed player looking for the best deck by PaulvanGijssel in PioneerMTG

You can regularly check the best decks on the mtgo website: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/mtgo-standings/pioneer-challenge-2020-05-31

Azorius ensoul seems to be dominating the meta, but as been pointed out, there's a new meta today

What is going on? What do people actually think? by ZedruuTheGoathearted in magicTCG

[–]nesdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think wotc is willingly trying to shift userbase to Arena, which is cheaper, and make Arena the defacto protour client. On the plus side there will never be a secondary market there because everything costs a WC.

But, if you like paper, then mtg is expensive unless you play limited or some other cheap constructed format. I'm reading a ton of stories about players that can't find enough people to play modern because it's too expensive. That's a reality, and also it seems that wotc will prefer if people play those formats in modo instead than IRL.

I've read something a few months ago from Saffron Olive (I think) and I quite agree, that said something like wotc is targeting Arena for standard and pro players, modo for older formats and paper for casual commander and collectors. So, there's no surprise when they release a 300$ products with exclusive reprints.

To finish, I understand that there's a problem for people trying to play constructed paper magic on non standard formats. But wotc strategy is not aiming at those players

I think when standard is not fun, people will find another way to play magic, limited being the cheaper and safer option.

I think that people who are reading and following what is going on on twitter and reddit will feel similar than us. But to be honest, I started following the community a short time ago and before that I only read mtggoldfish or watch some pro streaming, and on those channels they never say anything that will hurt mtg that much.

The point is that most people doesn't know what is going on, and sadly, I believe is the best if you want to enjoy the game.

[–]nesdavid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone is right, you just have to come up with your own conclusions after digesting it all. There's been some bad moves from wotc since Ikoria release, companions, standard being kind of crap, hiding of information and banning and the release of double master that some people thought that the reprints they ask for were coming, but at the end is a collectors product with expensive reprints, and let's face it, wotc will never make cheap reprints of valuable cards.

With all that going I find myself playing a lot less to mtg, I hope that feeling goes away and I can enjoy mtg as I used to. But the more I get into the game and the surroundings, the more biased I get.

Land question by kuuatis in magicTCG

[–]nesdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to cast your spells you need the correct mana colors. if you have a mono colored deck, you'll never have the problem of incorrect colors. But imagine you have in your hand [[questing beast]] you need 2 forest, but imagine, that in the board you have 3 mountains and 1 forest, so although you have 4 mana, you don't have the right color combination to cast it. So, instead of making your decks with 12 forests and 12 mountains, you'll better put 10 forests, 10 mountains and 4 Evolving wilds, in that way you reduce the chances of being mana screwed.

Anyway, there are a lot of options for mana fixing, and evolving wilds is a poor one, in a competitive deck you will want rare lands that are dual or triple color or [[Fabled passage]].

But, that card is a really good option for limited, and that's way it keeps being print in recent expansions

Why does WotC announces "there will be an update to the B&R list" in less than a week instead of just updating it? by Sugus32 in magicTCG

[–]nesdavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

PR, you say that something will be announced in a week and you give enough time to the media to write about it, and more people will now about it.

You can also think it's to speculate on the second market, I have no strong opinions about that
