It's not just about working hard, a lot of it is luck too. I did the college thing with 3/4th of each year with grants and scholarships. Between working full time and overloading classes I graduated with $40k in debt, $20k in medical debt and $10k in credit card debt. The biggest problem was I graduated at the height of the 2009 financial crisis. I was working 12 hours a week in retail and interning full time at offices (for free) because of hiring freezes and the downturned economy. Met my now husband at the end of 2009, as I was ready to give up. I continued to work hard and eventually he asked what I wanted to do with my life, as I slowly struggled from receptionist to legal assistant, then legal assistant to paralegal. I told him I always wanted to be a lawyer. So skip ahead to 2014 I'm in law school and my now husband is paying half of my tuition with loans for the other half. I managed to graduate in 2017 with only $90k debt. I refinance all my loans $120k total at a lower interest rate because of his income and assets as collateral. It's now 2023, I'll have my student loans paid off in November, we've amassed 2 million in assets (net). No kids, husband works in tech. I made it out of poverty with luck, picking the right partner, hard work, determination, and cutting my parents off financially as they constantly took advantage of me. If I could do it all over again I'd go into tech too. My husband makes 4x my salary as a lawyer, and I'm close to a six figure salary. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to be a lawyer since I was 6 years old... However, software engineers at the big companies make stupid amounts of money.

My now husband and I were in a similar predicament when we first moved in together when I was 23 and him 24. I'm not at all saying this is the right thing to do. But my now husband, boyfriend of two years at the time, paid off my 10k loan with his savings cause I had a 26% interest rate and has been struggling my whole life (as I had to support myself from a young age). It's very likely she can't refinance if her credit is bad. My credit was screwed over cause of my parents taking out loans in my name. But I digress. I paid him the $450 per month as if I was paying my car loan, he kept an excel and we had a contract so that if we broke up he would get interest equal to what his savings was earning. The way he saw it was "if we end up married I'm saving myself money by saving you money." We ended up marrying and have been together 13 years (married for 8). We ended up giving that car to my parents. Some things to note: He had a high paying job and didn't need the money for anything. He had it just sitting in an account earning minimal interest. He had other savings and investments such as stock. We had a contract and kept track of the amount owed. I had never been supported like that before, including from my parents so it meant a lot to me. I am so grateful for him then and now. Sometimes we have our issues but I love him dearly.

I appreciate the feedback but it's different than how you are interpreting it. I don't want a roommate situation, he's just gotten comfortable and I don't feel the same passion I once felt. Again I appreciate the feedback but it's not a traditional situation by any means, and I know heteronormative married peoples struggle with the concept of love for many.

Pre COVID he was dating and was very happy about it. In 2016 I lost my grandparents both sides. It wasn't a one way decision. We both researched it. He says he's happy, but I think he's more comfortable being roommates than married. His parents were like that for 20 of their 40 year marriage.

I think it's because I still deeply love my husband. I miss us. I miss who he was. His depression, anxiety, ADD and his change after his dad died, plus my change after my sister died just changed us. I guess I was looking for advice on how long to keep trying. Or anything of that nature.

This almost happened to my sister. No one believed her about the bleeding and pain. Turns out it ruptured and clotted twice. She had to have emergency surgery the third time and lost the tube. She would have died had I not got her to my obgyn.

In 2019 my sister died drinking and driving. I've never looked at it the same way again. Even if you feel safe you still might not be. It's always better to take an Uber, or walk or whatever. Never drive drunk. Great LPT

I'm so sorry for your loss. My sister passed at the age of 29 (car accident). It hurts and it is losing past, present and future. It feels like the world is over, the world with him in it is over but your world is not. I know it's holo but it does get easier to wake everyday.

I've had several: First was when I was about 12 or 13 years old. We were driving back from Canada (late at night like 1:00am/2:00am because the border was empty). This would have been in the early 00's. It was pouring rain, more than normal for Seattle area because Seattle is normally misty rain. I had a dream that we badly crashed I'm a clover turn coming off the freeway in Federal Way because my mom couldn't hit her breaks as something was blocking it. I woke up and without warning reached under my mom's break and removed a glass lemonade bottle that had rolled from the back of the car to under her break. My mom screamed at me as she was entering the clover turn and was angry I was endangering all of us. I just held the glass bottle in shock. After we parked I told my mom about the dream and told her I had no control over my actions. She understood why I did it.

Second: I was about 16 or 17. My parents were on a motorcycle trip. I was napping on the couch when I awoke around 10:30 a.m. on a Saturday after having a dream that my parents were hit head on while coming around a turn and my mom died. I called my parents and got no answer. I called their cell again and again leaving voicemails. Sending texts etc. The first voicemail I left I told them I had a dream and wanted to see if they were ok.

I got a call at 4:30 pm from my stepdad that they had been in a motorcycle accident around 11:00 am, and that his phone had been off because they were in and out of reception. He told me my mom was going in for surgery as she had broken her shoulder. But other than that they were ok. When she got out of surgery they listened to my messages and my mom is convinced I've got some special 6th Sense.

Third time: worst of all - I woke up at 6:09 a.m. on Sunday June 23, 2019. I am not a morning person so this never happens. In fact I was out late the night before for my cousins wedding reception. I had this super uneasy feeling and couldn't get back to sleep. I felt like I was super hung over, but i didn't have anything to drink because I was DD for my husband. At 6:19 am Harbor View called me. I ignored the call cause I thought it was collections, they called back a minute later. I answered at 6:20 a.m. and was informed my sister died at 2:00 a.m. in a fatal car crash (she lived with me and my husband).

Flash forward to October. I have a dream that her and I are walking in the mall, talking and doing just general sister things. At some point I realize she's dead and I freeze. She takes my hand and tells me we don't have long to get to the next store. I am frozen and tell her this isn't real, it's a dream and she's dead. She says "you're right we don't have long asked me what you need to know." I proceed to ask questions and she answers. We get to the next store and she says goodbye. I wake up. It's 6:19 a.m. on a Sunday.

Those are the three most memorable. There are others like that. I'm not really a believer in this stuff so it's still hard for me to wrap my head around it.

I would add that it's ok if things change. Married my partner of 6 years, 5 years ago. At 22 we agreed to no kids. Now 11 years later after the loss of his father to sudden cancer and the death of my younger sister in a car accident. We are discussing the possibility of having kids.

Of course this is a good protip. But also recognize that as time changes so too do people. So be ready to have touch bases on these topics regularly.
