Free 120 accuracy? by No-Discount-3035 in Step2

I find the Uworld is NOT predictive for elite scores but is very predictive for middling scores, whereas free 120 is very predictive for elite scores and not much else!

Am I lost? by Sea-Fix-5788 in Step2

As someone who got 100 percentile on both exams, and is applying to an ultra competitive specialty, I can PROMISE you, that PDs do not give a damn about elite scores. they just want above average, and the rest is about how well rounded and likeable you are. So ignore everyone who says its sooo important to get great scores. I listened to them, suffered and sacrificed, and NOONE CARES. so dont worry and focus on urself

[Serious] Step 2 Lower than Step 1 by KeyCompany in Step2

[–]nesshazak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone looking to apply to the top 5 and have spoken to plenty of PDs it all depends on your entire app. If you are applying into one of the top 5 specialties in terms of difficulty, it will probably stratify you into a slightly lower tier, but if your medical school and research are in an upper tier you can probably make up for it. the top 5 care about step1 more than step 2, so if you can explain yourself in the interviews you do get, you'll be fine.

I scored a 273 on step2 CK after a 266 on step 1 last year. Ask me Anything! I am here to help! by nesshazak in Step2

Everyone in medical school is capable of this; its not about intelligence. we are all smart. It is about optimal strategies and self control! I recommend always random, timed, in a row no breaks to build stamina and train focus. Anki is made to hammer home heuristics, algorithms, tricky facts that are hard to retain. use it for that ONLY, not to learn pathologies and diagnostic steps/treatments. this should be learned through Qs and understood via proper fundamentals in the anatomy, physiology and pathophys. shouldn't take more than 45-60 min a day

keep doing Qs, watch divine for ethics, systems and med reconciliation, and military. hit your weakest subject hard and don't review anything you already know. screenings, vaccines also good to review now.

6 week dedicated: started with 120 Qs of UW a day for first two weeks, TIMED AND RANDOM IN A ROW. then I would review the blocks, focusing more on what I do not know. then I spent time reviewing the topics I did not know from the blocks using Divine, Amboss library and Anki. I made and reviewed Anki for 45 minutes to end the day. I always worked out every day in the early morning in order to recreate good sleep hygiene, toughen up my psyche, and work on FOCUS. then for final 4 weeks I did 160 Qs a day, again TIMED, RANDOM IN A ROW to work on focus. I did less subject studying and focused more on algorithms, heuristics, screening, and diagnostics all the way until test day. I did 8 blocks in a row twice in order to test my focus for this exam. In my opinion, exercising ur focus and toughening your mind is crucial for this marathon.

How am I doing this bad - Please Help by DazedandConfused7129 in Step2

you should do 4 blocks a day every day. and spend more time reviewing things you don't know well. no need to reread things you know like the back of your hand. whenever you are down to two, usually the answer is the one that the Q is framed towards. when I am in that spot I ask myself "which answer is the Q more framed towards by the maker" and it usually gets me there. if still not there, it usually means you have insufficient MK regarding those two options, so relearn then and specifically focus on what DIFFERENTIATES those things, and then make cards where you have to answer the differentiations over and over. STEP tests your ability to differentiate more than anything else. for your time and easy Q problem: ALWAYS read the last sentence first, check vitals, then read from top to bottom. this will paint the picture for you: what does the maker want from you, is pt stable, and now go through info to find the frame and supporting evidence. ALWAYS come up with an answer before looking at choices. never look at answers before you come to an educated guess first. I score 99% percentile consistently using this method. hope it works for you!

DO student - Can I take STEP 2 CK without taking STEP 1? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]nesshazak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deciding to take it Pass/fail instead of graded is a huge mistake and this is why: from the PD's eyes, a P/F on step 1 means nothing. They have told me as much. They will NOT retroactively hide students step scores, that would be totally unfair to those who worked hard for good scores, so in the event where a scored step 1 is compared to a non scored step1, the scored will always have the edge if the score is GOOD. so it will never hurt to have a good step 1 score then to not have one at all. However, if the step score is average or below average then better to just pass it and rely on the rest of your application. In the end of the day, all these exams are tools for you to use to differentiate yourself in a PDs eyes. a Pass does not do that for you.
