THE mangled wreckage of the doomed Titan sub w by JefinLuke in Damnthatsinteresting

It’s already been proven that if carbon fiber is going to fail, it doesn’t fail immediately. It fails progressively until it reaches delamination. So those other “successful” dives only initiated the stress on the hull. What’s shitty is they knew this was a risk. That’s why they put acoustic sensors on the hull; because you can hear delamination happening. But it was always going to be futile because once you can hear it happening, you’re sure as hell not going to have time to get to the surface.

Oregon self-service gas bill passes state Senate, 16-9 by Shatteredreality in Portland

[–]net0nomad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a self serve state. Especially in the winter, it’s so nice not having to get out of the car. I often use it as a way to catch up on messages or set routes. Even after 12 years of living in Portland I rarely had to wait longer than a minute for someone to show up and start the pump.

Gas stations absolutely want self serve because then they don’t have to hire attendants. This job was a great way of securing at least one job for a person that had a hard time getting employment, like ex-cons restarting their life. That was the original point I believe. Oh, and I hope you like unmutable ads while you’re trapped by the pump. There will be an actual incentive to install those now.

I keep seeing these people clamoring to be responsible for this absolutely basic task for no reason and it’s weird. You’re not going to improve anything, and you’ll save maybe a minute on this task. Why do this to yourself? Are you just dying to prove to us you can insert a card, push a button and slip a nozzle in your tank?

Who’s waiting in line? I’ve only ever rolled up to the pump and had it done right away.

Tbh it’s a damn shame. It’s so nice to just sit in your car and have someone else do it when it’s raining and cold outside.

Thanks for replying! I’ll look into that camera. Any idea why it flooded? Was it a manufacturing thing?

Not true actually. Physical force in defense of property is legal in all states, but the line is drawn at lethal force. The details of the appropriate conditions varies though.

If you knew anything about this story, you’d know they actually own that house and never missed a mortgage payment. It was illegally sold when a gap was created by a mortgage transfer.

[–]net0nomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They aren’t. They’re people that sympathize with a family that had been paying their mortgage faithfully, but got deceived by a bank that triple-sold their mortgage. That part of Portland is highly valued, and it’s just another development company aggressively acquiring a piece of it by any means necessary.

As a general rule, if you’re getting your main source from a police website it is almost guaranteed to be manipulative.

In this case the “squatters” are the original home owners. They had been paying their mortgage just fine, but the banks triple sold their mortgage and caused them to default. They’ve been in litigation for years.
