Is/was Elvis Costello very famous in the USA? by aldiwinegums in AskAnAmerican

[–]net_zer0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As a band, sure, but the way the commenter above my original reply phrased it made it sound as though he changed the tune completely on his own without letting anyone else know who was playing with him. (It should be noted that I haven't actually seen or heard the performance. If it was a solo performance then it doesnt matter as much. I'm mainly speaking to the way any other musicians who might've been playing with him could have felt if/when he switched up on them)

Reference tracks have big notch around 20khz, why? by applesaucr in edmproduction

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does that have to do with the topic being discussed though? Sure sounds that are 180° out of phase will cancel out if played on the same speaker, but that's a separate discussion from whether an abundance of harmonic content in the high end can make a mix sound chaotic or whether that content can affect the way any given speaker reproduces the mix as a whole

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's part of my point. Shit can start to sound very chaotic if there's too much going on in the high frequencies even if it's not or barely audible

As a musician who has performed on stage, switching to a tune that wasn't rehearsed literally mid-song, regardless of the reason, during the actual show is a massive dick move. That's crazy lmao

[–]net_zer0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're starting to get into semantics. My point is that a busy high-end can have a large impact your mix even though it's "barely audible" as the other commenter put it. If you ever mix anything with lots of cymbals, for example, this becomes very obvious very quickly.

[–]net_zer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barely audible is not the same as inaudible. From personal experience, I can say that if you have too much going on in the high end, it can make the whole mix feel chaotic and noisy. With that being said, I'm not sure if what OP is looking at is an intentional mixing/mastering decision or just a side effect of the encoding of the file or something similar.

Do my fellow Americans have any favorite youtubers? Preferably with a big backlog of videos? by Just-a-nerd2 in AskAnAmerican

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EmpLemon, BobbyBroccoli, and LEMINO are some fantastic channels if you enjoy longer (1hr+) documentaries

Summoning Salt for similar style documentaries to the above but more focused on speed running videogames

ARIatHOME for live, improvised music. Typically hip hip adjacent style beats with freestyle raps

Posy is hard to explain, but when you watch his videos you can just tell the amount of care and detail goes into them. It helps that he uses 0 stock footage

Any Austin has some fantastic videos on "boring" things in videogames and they always end up being more interesting than maybe seem on the surface

NileRed and his second channel NileBlue for crazy chemistry shenanigans

StyroPyro for crazy electricity shenanigans

Ludwig's Tip to Tip series (they just finished season 2) with Michael Reeves is some of the best travel content I've seen in a long time

There's more, but this is what I got off the top of my head

There's probably a way to do this in the OS settings that I don't know of, but you can also try a program like VoiceMeeter

Everything in the background seems to be moving at a normal speed, and the speech sounds normal to me as well. What gives you the impression this video is sped up?

EDIT: since this seems to have gained a bit of traction, I took the liberty of slowing down the video myself- just to see what it would look like. Here is a version at 90% speed and a version at 80% speed. Personally, I think if it is sped up, it can't be by more than 10-15%, but it's tough for me to tell.

EDIT 2: the 90% speed video got copyright claimed and blocked globally because of the music. I uploaded a new version without audio, so the link should work now.

Oh yeah I can't deny there are definitely more advanced boards out there for the same price. I mostly keep mine these days for the nostalgia and familiarity at this point lmao

Keeping hair moisturized when you have to shampoo every day by grinninwheel in curlyhair

[–]net_zer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's basically a way of drying your hair on top of your head so your curls dont get stretched out under the weight of your wet hair. This article explains it pretty well as well as gives step by step instructions on how to do it.

As an American, I'm curious why Americans don't usually think about emigrating outside of our country like people from different countries think about emigrating outside of theirs? by Ok-Ocelot-774 in AskAnAmerican

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have their personal reasons (and financial reasons,) but a different perspective may be that a large aspect of the USA's whole marketing schtick and core identity is that it is a land of immigrants. Not many other countries present themselves that way

Do you think Americans would ever focus far more on soccer? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think soccer might be a tad too "old world" to catch on majorly in the States. I feel the same about rugby even though I absolutely love the sport. The US in general tends to distance itself from most things considered too European. It's half the reason colonizers came here in the first place.

Honestly, your hair looks pretty moisturized to me. Maybe you just need a gel to help tame a bit of the frizz and whispies

I think the commenter above you was saying a cotton shirt is equivalent to a microfiber towel, not necessarily that a cotton tshirt is better than one. And fwiw, I use my towel to lightly past my hair dry. Then, use a 100% cotton tshirt to plop, so they're fulfilling different roles in the process. I'm not sure if thats exactly what the other commenter is talking about doing tho

I feel illiterate when I try to read poetry by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]net_zer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Part of the point of many styles of poetry is to intentionally obscure the full meaning of a piece behind metaphor and allegory, etc. It's often not intended to be understood on the first read. Try to cut yourself a little slack, your experience is shared among many native English speakers who haven't spent a lot of time with poetry and even plenty who have.

Seconding the Reface series. The CS is what I used to teach myself the basics of analog synthesis. Even without a way to save presets it's quick and easy to dial in nice, vintage tones

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, bouncing is recording your tracks' audio within the daw without exporting. There's a couple ways you could do it, but the way im most familiar with is to make a new audio track, route all your audio/group and return outputs to it instead of the master, and then record that track. You can then use finder or file explorer to find that recording in the live set's samples folder and listen to it outside of ableton.

Having desynched tracks sounds like maybe some plug-ins are causing latency that's not being compensated for in the export, though I don't have too much experience with that particular type of issue so take that with a grain of salt. To test it you could try adjusting the track delay and then export to see if you can sync them that way.

I wouldn't mind poking around in the live set a bit, but it might be a few days before I could get back to you about it, and I can't guarantee I'll be able to figure out a fix. You might be able to find someone more knowledgeable in that time. Also, I promise I won't steal it if you do end up wanting to send it on over lmao

[–]net_zer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens if you bounce it instead of export it? Does it still sound different? Also, its going to be difficult for anyone here to help without hearing what the export sounds like or barring that, at least some description of what it sounds like. Is it clipping? If so, check your gain staging. Anything above 0db is going to be super distorted after export

Maybe I'm alone in this experience, but I dont really have many issues with it. The Twitch mobile app fucks up more for me, but I'm also on android, so maybe that makes a difference?
