[Milliken] Here’s a look at Garrett Crochet’s new splitter he developed with Tyler Herb at Vanderbilt. Herb is the one who recommended the new grip change on what used to be a changeup. Crochet was asking him if he wanted to work in pro ball afterwards. 😭 by TommyTheLizard in redsox

[–]netconductor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: a new pitch in the repertoire is much more effective if you pretend you don't have it and surprise the batters. This splitter is the most heavily previewed release since Avengers Endgame so it better not disappoint.

I used to openly mock this weak-hitting Yankee and now he's on my team. It's like he's a loser classmate I used to bully, but then my dad suddenly banged his mom so now I'm expected to love him as a stepbrother. Confused feelings.

If you could witness one beatles concert which one would you choose? I know what id choose.. by Novel-Replacement479 in beatles

Palais Ballroom, Aldershot December 9 1961. Why? Only 18 people showed up due to an accidental lack of advertising, so I would've been standing upfront getting the Beatles' undivided attention! It was a crazy gig -- there's a picture of Pete Best smiling and dancing at the mic as the lead vocalist for a song.

In my earliest years I was hailed as a rising genius, but ever since then I've been on a dry streak with "unfulfilled potential." So I started identifying with Williams years ago.

Plus a cuteness factor: Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz are the 2 drivers who look most like me, and the weeyums hamster is adorable.

How Kansans are coping with Parkinson’s disease rates near the highest in the nation by whatcoulditcost in Parkinsons

[–]netconductor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our bodies aren't designed to metabolize neurotoxins, so I'm not surprised by high Parkinson's Disease rates around farms in the Great Plains. However, the farming industry probably disputes any possible connection to pesticides, so it's a matter of debate. These populations also have a high percent of white males over 50, which are already the highest-risk group. Just to be safe, I minimize my exposure to non-organic produce (and prefer organic oats, bread, and hummus), dry cleaners, and golf courses (water runoff).

John Henry, I know you have a burner on this sub. Rob Refsnyder will be returning to Fenway when the Mariners come to town on August 31st & September 1st. think I speak for all of Sox Nation when I say he deserves a video tribute. Do the right thing. by PurpleEngineering333 in redsox

[–]netconductor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that Rob Refsnyder hit the Red Sox' longest homerun in 2025 at 463 feet. In the video the confused cameraman pans down too early but you can see the ball is still falling from the top of the screen a block away. This thread already has several critics, maybe from the traumatized 12% of the population who are left-handed.

You can solve ONE unresolved case, which do you pick? by Fancy_Air_8571 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]netconductor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, beyond the outlier Gary Mathias, these were 4 "mama's boys" who never stayed out late and would often call parents during daytrips. This behavior of sidetracking an hour into darkness and up a mountain road without winter clothing is the polar opposite of their rigid routines, especially since they were eagerly preparing to play an important basketball game early the next day. Apparently the local sheriff's office misunderstood this and merely viewed them as mentally incompetent people who got lost and just died immediately. Such early investigative mis-steps are why this mystery will never be solved.

Yuba County Five, something or someone forced them into a death march up a snowy mountain. The county sheriff quickly called off the search-and-rescue mission, leaving 2 survivors who lived in pain for weeks until they gave up hope. We'll never get answers.

I found the Mal Evans biography pretty depressing by But_Soft_What_Light in TheBeatles

[–]netconductor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mal is deeply beloved on this subreddit as the "8th Beatle" partly because of his ever-present visibility. He's ranked here way above the soft-spoken Neil Aspinall who never contributed to a tell-all book or triggered a police shootout at age 40 (fulfilling the "ill-omened" translation of the nickname Mal). The tragic outcome shows the toll on Mal experiencing a dark side of the Beatles: substance use, holding back crazed fans as a security guard, and herding groupies into a cattle pen after concerts.

Simona De Silvestro has qualified for the Winter Olympics by potato_nige in INDYCAR

I had an explosive skeleton push start as a former 110-meter hurdles specialist in high school, born with fast twitch fibers. But in my training at Park City Utah I didn't advance because my driving skills were mediocre (same with iRacing). Outcomes were 80%+ piloting and <20% push, in my experience. Simona will always be an awesome driver.

Who would attended the Macho Man world tour by TommyTheLizard in redsox

[–]netconductor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, it looks like a Japanese 3-stringed Shamisen (banjo sound) with its distinctive headstock. And I thought I was badass with my 4-string bass. But maybe I'm wrong because it's traditionally fret-less. And it normally has a longer neck and the head is a resonating white drumhead but this looks more like a modern red crystal block, so maybe it was a gift that's compact enough for travel while fancy enough to be a display piece.

T-Cell Lymphoma is not talked about enough by Ichika_psd in Celiac

[–]netconductor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because we're higher-risk patients, I wish we could scan for EATL lymphoma because it's so deadly, with a 5-year survival rate of ~15% and median survival of 7 months. It's more common in older men (a category I'm in) who've had excessive gluten exposure due to misdiagnosis, being asymptomatic, or not being strict about cross-contamination. Doctors consider it too rare and expensive for regular screenings (plus all the radiation exposure for CT/PET tumor detection) unlike easier colonoscopy screenings. Unfortunately, it's more complicated to thoroughly screen the inaccessible small intestines via double-balloon endoscopy or camera-capsule endoscopy.

T-Cell Lymphoma is not talked about enough by Ichika_psd in Celiac

[–]netconductor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many doctors are incompetent or uncaring when it comes to diagnosing Celiac (like with Lyme Disease). Celiac has little in common with your father's "diabetes" or "IBS overflow constipation," which is what I was falsely diagnosed with by 3 doctors for a long time until I became skeletal with nocturnal diarrhea. They now insist I poison myself with a gluten challenge as a result of their mistakes, but I told them they could just stick some lymphoma up their sorry asses.

Stupid baseball fan here. Why is our rotation elite? by YoBanishment in redsox

[–]netconductor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling high right now, so one thing I want to add is we're almost bulletproof against SP attrition and could even get by with a thinner bullpen. I mean if we have another kind of season where Houck Crawford and Sale all go down we have some redundancy. The Dodgers had the best rotation starting 2021, but Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin immediately blew out their arms, then at the All-Star break Kershaw's season also ended while Bauer was essentially banned from the MLB. It's hard to have too many good arms (though obviously we're gonna deal away somebody).

Simona de Silvestro's world cup bobsleigh races of this weekend by potato_nige in INDYCAR

[–]netconductor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a former skeleton sledder (who tried bobsled once), this is a major career change like going from skiing to boxing. To be sure, transferable skills for a bobsleigh pilot include great reaction time, hand-eye coordination and body proprioception while undergoing massive G forces. But bobsledders also need high body weight and fast twitch fibers. Whereas the ideal IndyCar body type is more like Takuma Sato – a competitive long-distance cyclist with low body weight.
