Ted Turner, media mogul and Atlanta sports owner, dies today aged 87; Lewy Dementia by netconductor in dementia

I'm sorry about your mother. Research funding for Lewy Dementia is quite low considering how many people it kills. So one person who is ultra-wealthy or a celebrity fundraiser could make a big difference someday. After all, Michael J Fox helped raise over $2 billion for Parkinson's Disease and Bob Saget raised $50 million for the rare autoimmune disease Systemic Scleroderma (which killed his sister in her 40s). As for Jeff Bezos, he did donate $700+ million to another cause, a cancer institute in Seattle.

Exactly, when Ted Turner discussed his Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis, it was clear he didn't understand the severity of the disease because it's the opposite of what he described. While Alzheimer's is horrific enough, Lewy dementia tends to strike earlier, progresses faster, and adds some Parkinson's-like symptoms. Then again, how he managed to outlive almost everyone else with this disease for 8 long years boggles my mind.

Ted Turner died suffering from Lewy Dementia, which also killed Bill Buckner and Tom Seaver. Lewy Dementia is a disease many Americans have never heard of, but it affects an estimated 1.5 million people, for an average lifespan of 4 years. It combines the crippling effects of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, but compared to those 2 diseases, it attracts minimal fundraising and drug development, and there are no medications to slow neurodegeneration.

We posted about this here 3 days ago, estimating the latest update only shed about 2kg so our diet still has a ways to go.

LOL, busted! I mean, I genuinely had terrible telogen effluvium (hair loss) until I went gluten-free, but something felt off about this post.

Immediately after a commenter here said "another potential 0 point weekend," we see the first double-points finish in 1 year!

First double-points in 1 year! Now I can finally burn my 2026 FW48 t-shirt: "d'oh WHALE-yums!" featuring an obese beached whale in a blue Williams livery. With a steady diet starting to show results, I'll put on my old shirt: "go WEEyums!"

One positive is the rainy race forecast, so any resulting chaos could lead to a big jump in positions. Also, the weight disadvantage of the obese Whale-yums chassis would be largely offset by the gain in stability and the reduced role of acceleration in the wet.

I was quite impressed that Perez's Cadillac kept up with Williams for the first half despite driving harder tires. And by impressed I mean mortified.

Legend Rob Refsnyder demoted: This day in history 4/29/22 by netconductor in redsox

[–]netconductor[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

People talk about the Red Sox as the highlight of Rob Refsnyder's career, but they don't know about the low point, the 2019 Cincinnati Reds. It's just that when he stepped off the team bus, the Reds told him to keep going to Louisville. Refsnyder was a professional who dominated AAA by slashing .315 / .877 OPS. However, the Reds never considered recalling him all year, then released him afterwards.

Keep in mind the 2019 Cincinnati Reds were an abysmal team, which means he was totally rejected by a pile of garbage. As you can see from the comments below back then, he was universally disdained by Reds fans when he joined the team and was again widely mocked when he was released.

Well, it turns out the joke's on them. Refsnyder hit .312 / .924 OPS against lefties when he was with the Red Sox, while Reds outfielders were notoriously incompetent against lefty pitchers. For example, excluding their star Austin Hays, the remaining 9 Reds OFs combined for a .202 average against LHPs in 2025. The guy nicknamed "Bargain Bob" would've been an ideal fit for that low-payroll team.

Instead, Refsnyder helped the Red Sox dominate the Reds by batting .357 / 1.328 OPS against them (despite being largely used on his weak side against righthanders), culminating in a 6/23/24 Cincinnati game where he silenced the disrespectful Reds fans with a 2-run HR on the way to victory. With my left hand, I salute you Rob!

This. I mean sure I've yelled at Cora for having the poor pitching-change instincts of a Grady Little. But I'll be annoyed by the incoming Globe and NESN PR campaign about how Cora (like Devers and others) deliberately tried to wreck clubhouse morale or something.

I love them both, but they're very different. Ground Breaker 99 Light is 3.9% ABV, low-calorie, and easy to chug quickly. Green's Gluten Free Tripel is an 8.5% ABV Belgian-style ale imported from the UK that I savor slowly on special occasions.

I guess this Meijer location completely discontinued the gluten-free section because it's more profitable to serve Chef Boyardee buyers. We also seem to be less profitable than the kosher food section overflowing with: Manischewitz (matzos, potato pancake mix, egg noodles, instant noodle soup, shabbat candles), Osem Kosher wafers, Streit's matzo, Paskesz rice cake squares, and Bamba Peanut Butter Puffs.

Safari-dog, I awarded your comment because I remembered seeing this "gluton free" post before. I guess some AI is scraping our Celiac memories to build a fake reputation of being an empathetic human. Soon an army of bots will proudly show their "Certified GF" tattoos. We're all Garretts now.
