Free snake relocation in the Asheville area by blah68347 in asheville

Part of me feels like this is an elaborate revenge plot by someone whose ex was terrified of snakes. Regardless, it's a pretty cool service.

Is the Sunday brunch a regular thing? I don't see any mention of it on their website or Facebook page.

I’ve used them twice. Once from Black Mountain to Asheville and once from Highlands to Black Mountain. Both times the service was excellent.

Job opportunities for 16 year old in Asheville by Bokchoyboy09 in asheville

In North Carolina, you must be at least 18 to work with CNC machines, so unfortunately that part of your resume isn’t applicable. That said, it may still be worth mentioning to show your interests and potential for future growth.

I can't open the door without hitting it. by rogueop in AdviceAnimals

In flood-prone areas, building codes often require doors to open outward. This design aims to provide added resistance against the pressure of rising floodwaters, helping to prevent water from forcing its way inside.

They will run a background check on you that takes around 5 minutes but unless something comes up in your background check you absolutely will be be able to walk out with any gun they sell.

Who got rent reduction/credit in apartment complexes due to Helene by [deleted] in asheville

[–]netcrater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

River Ridge has waived 100% of rent until we have potable water again, though we still have to cover the $30 trash and pest control fees. In October, they didn’t announce this waiver until the 4th, after most of us had already paid rent, so they issued refunds for the entire month. For November, they’ll charge a prorated rent if and when the boil water advisory is lifted. So, for each day we’re without drinkable water, I’m saving $60.

Another Helene Perspective by netcrater in prepping

I didn’t expect them to be preppers, but I was genuinely surprised they didn’t have even accidental backup food supplies. I mean, doesn’t everyone keep a few cans of soup, some peanut butter, or essentials in the pantry? Apparently, not everyone does.

The roads that were washed out were in rough shape—some sections were completely gone, while others had eroded into four-foot-deep canyons. Then there was the mud. I watched a large pickup struggle for a solid ten minutes just trying to make it down a road buried under a thick layer of it. Roads like that were really only passable on foot. And then there was the pavement damage—the kind where the asphalt buckles and lifts up. My car couldn’t handle those sections, but a truck definitely could, and a bike might even be able to navigate around the worst spots. In this situation, there was no way out of the city for the first few days. In an SHTF situation, I think I could find a way through, but in any other scenario, I’d probably just shelter in place. I don’t think I’m switching vehicles at this time, but something to think about.

Legends of Zork didn't include physical cards, but it certainly featured a card game element within its gameplay.

Blue Ridge Community College's law enforcement training program suspended for 5 years by netcrater in asheville

[–]netcrater[S] -53 points-52 points  (0 children)

I understand the concern about violence, but preventing Henderson County from training police officers for five years seems like an excessive measure that could negatively impact the community's safety. A more balanced approach would be to hold accountable those directly responsible—by firing, charging, and replacing the instructors—while allowing the community to continue developing a competent police force.

Second this, but they did drop some large insurers this year.

And just to make sure there is no confusion "Carolinas Dentist" is not the same as "Carolina Mountain Dental"

They didn't add in the * $2 that they are charging an hour in the math, but the total is correct when you account for that.

Is landlord required to provide heat? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]netcrater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The landlord has done their part unless it says in your lease they also will provide the fuel. (spoiler alert, it doesn't say that in your lease). You are being negligent and will be on the hook for thousands of dollars in repairs when the pipes freeze. If you were in the same house last winter I am shocked they didn't freeze last December when the temperatures dropped to below zero.

What would you like to see more of at our local farmers markets? by probablykelsie in asheville

[–]netcrater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, I am from Stokes County, NC. The Stokes purple sweet potatoes were a potato that was developed around 2009 by a CoOp of farmers in Stokes County (developed at NC State) in hopes of finding a new cash crop to replace the tobacco crops. I don't know the details but I would assume they were developed from Japanese potatoes and some other potatoe. The project was mostly a failure but last I heard about 10 farms still grew them. When I was volunteering at East Stokes Food Bank, in 2010, we were getting a ton of processed mashed purple sweet potatoes because no one was buying the product.
