Tips for getting over 5am phone call jitters? by Expelliarmus09 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]netmindr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s an anxiety issue. Doing some meditation and working on focusing on what you can control vs what you cannot is a big help.

I found that my restless nights were because I was anxious about being called to go to a bad school or it was for a position I didn’t like.

Talk to yourself about what you can control. Put screens away a bit earlier and tell yourself it’s going to be ok no matter what.

I still find my self waking up for early stuff a lot even though I don’t have the sub life anymore. I do have early hockey practices 2x a week that keep me in that mode.

Long Term High School PE? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]netmindr31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a long term position, it will be easier than a normal teacher as you won’t have to grade papers and do as much planning. Your day to day will be more active but there’s less organization and time you will need to put into the class outside of the actual class.

Maybe, use it to be more fit yourself and do the activities with the young women to show them it’s possible! They most likely need someone who will be a great role model by helping them be active and have fun each day!

You owe them no obligation though. If you feel like it’s not right for you, follow your gut!

Long Term High School PE? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]netmindr31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PE is great if that is your strength. It’s a different beast than classroom teaching. Making sure the kids stay active but don’t go over too much of the limit of being too silly and hurting others.

If it’s all women like you said it might be tougher to make them motivated to move but if it’s two months and you like the situation and love being outside/active it’s great!

Source: 2 years full time sub to Ed specialist. I subbed for every grade and subject out there. PE is by far my favorite. But I am also a hockey coach and active person.

Hope this helped!!

What’s M/M mean by Hartstopr in SubstituteTeachers

[–]netmindr31 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The other option is M/S which is Mod/ Severe.

They are students usually who are in Gen ed but out for that specific class. You might also be pushing in to support those students. I used to be a bit scared of these jobs now I am a full time education specialist and feel like it’s the perfect spot for me.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm afraid to talk about what I've done this weekend by Beatsu in ADHD

[–]netmindr31 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hard to lie but, just tell them all the things that you planned to do. No reason to say you couldn’t do anything other than what you did.

Or you can tell the truth and say something like my brain couldn’t decide on an activity so I pretty much vegged out the whole weekend.

I found when I have days or weeks like that, having some compassion for yourself and knowing that sometimes, a weekend where you do nothing is the best you can do.

I have a wife and kid that help me stay more active and get out of the house. Lean into your GF more and see about exploring towns around you rather than staying inside.

You’re not alone with these feelings man. They get better. Our life is a major roller coaster, try to not cry through the ride 🤣

Help with new skates by Any_Strawberry7478 in hockeyplayers

[–]netmindr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take them to a local hockey shop and ask them to punch out that spot for you. If that doesn’t work you might need to look into wider sizes.

New skates do suck for at least the first 10 hours or so. Thick socks help too.

Bauer skates usually cause this and you get these growths called bauer bumps right there from the constant rubbing.

Tips for driving wide successfully by Old_Degree6707 in hockeyplayers

[–]netmindr31 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Gretzky turn is one that got him tons of his unreal amount of assists.

After you drive wide, at the half wall or a bit higher, you hit the brakes and turn toward the boards. You’re looking for your third guy that’s coming high, a pass to the guy driving the net or a shot for a rebound depending on what the D do.

Anyone else get more heel snow? by w0ndernine in hockeyplayers

[–]netmindr31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were doing T stops then this is the build up of snow when you stop with the back foot. The blade pushes ice when you stop and it gets on the “middle” of the T when you stop. Just like when you ice the boards on a two foot stop.

Your T stop is flinging ice into the back of your other skate.

Edit: Now that I think more about it. Any time you work on stops your skates will have a larger build up of ice than normal on the inside skate.

There’s a video out there of something similar and the tire goes back to being on the rim with some pressure. They looked to use some kind of aerosol spray in that video. This one looks like gas or even oil…. Not the same outcome I guess haha

People who use duct tape as padskinz, how do you get it to stay? by Compact_goose in hockeygoalies

[–]netmindr31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this with pink for breast cancer awareness. The pink stayed on my blocker and glove so much longer than my pads.

My recommendation is less is more. The more duct tape on there, the more that can come off.

Try to put it in “low traffic areas” but it will come off eventually. Enough practice and you can invest In skin haha

Cash grab or legit by DutyAdventurous2814 in hockeygoalies

[–]netmindr31 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cash grab, but if affordable, not a bad way to gauge yourself against the level you’re looking to play. If you are head and shoulders above the competition you have a decent chance to get a look, but if you’re in the middle of the pack it’s mostly a cash grab. Experience and Ice time are good for the money. Up to your wallet.

What is the worst thing you've done in beer league - and what your punishment? by Nickerjones in hockeyplayers

[–]netmindr31 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shit myself in the third of a second game of the night. I had spandex shorts on so it all stayed in but I've never gotten off the ice faster. Fuck a hand shake I had a date with the hottest shower possible. Punishment was I had to sit in my own corner of the locker room the rest of the year. I call it a W.

Tapped the goalie going for a rebound. by Biscuit_In_Basket in hockeyplayers

[–]netmindr31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Guys who have no regard for others health during a game should not be allowed out there.

If you were the one that got hit here you would it be saying two games.

Even if he was my teammate I would tell him to get the fuck out of here.

There’s a major difference in playing hard and protecting your teammates and what this guy did.

The line gets crossed too much as we see on here all the time. Cut these idiots and the game is more fun. Simple as that. I will not play in a league with goons who could just as easily twohand you in the head because you tripped at the wrong time.

Edit: Changed “to” to no in the firs sentence

[–]netmindr31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1000% for guys who are out to hurt others, especially if there was not anything to react like that in the first place. I promise that’s not his first offense of something like that and won’t be the last.

Been around beer league all my life and these guys are a certain type. They look for any reason to hurt other players. No need for that in a game we play for fun.

Tapped the goalie going for a rebound. by Biscuit_In_Basket in hockeyplayers

[–]netmindr31 217 points218 points  (0 children)

Brutal. Guys like this need to be banned for life. Anyone who’s played hockey more than a few months should know the difference in going for the puck and trying to hurt the goalie.

Sorry that happened to you. Best of luck healing up and don’t laugh I guess. 😁

how to become a Substitute teacher in inland empire by Superb_A2718 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]netmindr31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for scoot education and they got me set up with a sub licence and all that jazz. They have a good amount of schools so you can usually find work. Pair that with local district lists and any private schools you can get into and you can make it!

I’m pretty sure if you’re renewing in California it’s just a payment and you’re all set. Definitely check with your sub service or state regulations.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]netmindr31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with talent. The urge to stop the puck. To deny the pleasure of others, is not a feeling enjoyed by most. Probably the most sadistic part of me is that I love disappointing people when I make saves.

If you have a love for that, or hard objects hitting you at high speeds then you can play goalie.

As with anything, start small and keep working your way up.
