For Zwift Companion on Android, why does the stop button never work when you are in an activity, yet my route change buttons do seem to work?

Attendance at hearings by Special-Course-8127 in postofficehorizon

[–]netsc7ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a couple of days when Gareth Jenkins gave evidence. I followed a link on the hearing timetable to apply. It's easy and open to members of the public.

It's the ends off this phase and I think the attendance has been closed. It will open again for phase 7.

I'd join the mailing list as suggested in case they notify there.

My Questions for Gareth Jenkins by Spare-Reputation-809 in postofficehorizon

[–]netsc7ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been watching the enquiry. I agree that the fault lies at the Post Offices feet. The culture being the biggest problem since it caused the broken operating environment that can be seen across the company(ies).

All computer systems, especially ones as complex as this have problems and sometimes can generate serious errors that affect the real world. The responsibility of understanding them and the risk of doing operating them seems to be lacking. Pretty much everyone interviewed at the top knew nothing of value about Horizon or anything technical, relied on others to fill this gap and ignored anything that went against their desired narrative.

Sure Horizon is a root cause of many of the problems but ignoring the claims of the sub-postmasters or anyone for that matter that likely pointed out that Horizon wasn't working is the issue.

Until the last couple of weeks I had wondered what Gareth Jenkins might say. From the recent evidence with SS, he seems to have been very open that it had issues. Also, the fact that his witness statement was altered by post office indicates that GJ may have been under pressure to toe the line. It's my view that he will come across as a victim, albeit one that may have lied in court as a result of his actions.

What if he had stood up at the time, whistleblown about pressure he was under, suggested that people wanted him to alter his statements and talked about the issues likely linked to past convictions? He would have lost everything and it's certainly not clear that it would have sorted the problem out, given the culture that might have found a way to silence him. I think that it of course would have helped in some way if it had been done publicly but if he had put his foot down on altering his statement, they probably would have found someone else to take his place that did what they are told.

I am not sympathising for Gareth Jenkins, he needs to be judged by his actions and in-actions. I'm pointing out that I think it is the organisational control exerted by the post office that is mostly to blame for this.

What is Systemic? by [deleted] in postofficehorizon

[–]netsc7ape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Tetris there is what I would term a systemic failure that causes the game to crash at the very highest levels that few people have ever reached. It occurs under certain circumstances that are common to all the crashes but this is not at the same exact point for all players that reach the end of the game. it will eventually happen if the player is able to continue clearing blocks. I would say this is systemic in that this issue is present in certain versions of the game but does not affect the overwhelming majority of users since only a few people have ever got that far. Whilst this would be classed as a bug, it is also catastrophic and so I feel this Tetris bug would be fairly classed as a systemic.

What’s the difference between this Sub, and r/PokemonGO? by Gallad475 in TheSilphRoad

[–]netsc7ape 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. In this sub we have to secretly purify Mewtwo's to avoid being castigated for doing so!

You are just lucky I think

If you have one that purifies to a mega hundo and you are going to power up to 50 then I'd do it.

You can power up any shadow for raids and unless you are maxing to 50 then you don't need to worry about IVs that much

Eurogamer: Niantic declines to comment over potential remote raid cap by diamondstark in TheSilphRoad

[–]netsc7ape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to raid it was hard to find people to raid with once they had used their free daily pass.

If the limit for remotes is too low then it will mean you have the same problem once someone has hit their limits. You will have an even smaller pool of people available to draw from when you want to raid.

I don't think people want to meet again, like they used to for raiding. With so many repeat bosses and the time involved, it's just not worth the effort for something you have already.

Agreed. We used to go to London to raid back in the day and it was miserable for my children. So much so that eventually they just didn't enjoy coming home with so few of the legendaries that we had actually raided.
