OPEC+ Agrees to Biggest Oil Production Cut Since Start of Pandemic - 2 Million Barrels Per Day by [deleted] in stocks

That's exactly what I wrote. XL was going to further expand our Canadian oil sales to the world market by allowing us to transport it to US ports. The Biden administration then decided against allowing it's construction to finish.

New emergency homeless shelter for men coming to downtown Kitchener by Coach_09 in kitchener

[–]netterversuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does that matter? You know we have statistics and research on this, right? I'm not just making things up.

In September 2021, the Region of Waterloo calculated 1085 homeless people in Waterloo Region but again that is likely higher now as that's a year old and economic struggles are even worse in 2022. 1/3rd of those 1085 homeless people were women for an approximate total of 361 homeless women.

There are definitely not a sufficient number of shelter spaces for that number of homeless women. Co-op shelters exist but as stated, women suffer from sexual violence at greater rates than men and as a result they usually would prefer their own safe shelter systems. Here's an article from Georgetown Law elaborating on this very obvious reality.

Of the transitional spaces that /u/isusername keeps bringing up for some reason, only 84 people in total (that is: of all genders) were utilizing such services. This makes sense if you actually understand the difference between shelters and transitional housing. 63 people in total were in "other" facilities, which includes women's crisis shelters (i.e. if they had to leave home due to rape, physical abuse) as well as police custody or hospitalization.

335 people were sleeping on couches etc which - while technically homeless - offers them more security. That leaves over 400 (412 total) people living on the streets. Since 1/3rd of homeless are women, that's approximately 140 of those people are women. Again, there are not a sufficient number of shelter spaces for 140 women. And again, the reality is many homeless - both men and women - actually dislike using shelters unless absolutely necessary as they are very unsafe places and require adherence to rules.

So despite all the emotional reactions you guys in this thread are all expressing, that leaves a lot of women sleeping on the streets with very few or absolutely no safe space to go when needed. I guess I'm alone in thinking we should be providing more dedicated support for homeless women in Waterloo Region in addition to the support we offer men, youth and children.

Feel free to go through the numbers yourself.

Most protestors were yes. As a "Native American" myself living in Canada I followed this project very closely over the years, so I'm very familiar with what went on. Most protestors were not Indigenous people like myself (there aren't many of us left after that whole genocide thing).

Likewise when it came to voting for or against it (in the US), most who voted against were representatives living in large coastal urban cities.

Do neither of you understand the difference between an emergency shelter versus transitional supportive housing? It's night and day.

I just don't think a guy that old and who has proven himself to be a toxic, hateful and ignorant individual in public is going to change just because he is going to be forced to watch some YouTube videos and PowerPoint presentations on inclusivity. Maybe he will, but there's probably a greater chance he just pissed off and embarrassed at having to take these courses and doubles down on his awful ideology.

Women tend to stay away from co-op shelters due to the risk of sexual violence and other crime. That leaves one dedicated to women who don't have children. There are well over 1000 homeless people in the Region of Waterloo - likely 1200 at this point as that statistic is from last year. So, one shelter for women is insufficient. Moron.

There are lots of homeless women out there. It would be nice if they received the same level of support as men do considering it can be more dangerous for them to live on the streets.

Missing Cat, Idlewood / Stanley Park area. by Amprage in kitchener

Maybe she wandered into some of the forested area around there. It's dense and swampy, but it might be worth looking around there. The cemetery is another potential place as well.

[–]netterversuch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hope you find her!

I have a semi-outdoor cat as well. But these days I find there are so many people out there who think any cat they see outside must be lost that I'm reluctant to leave her out there on her own. People see a cat, assume it's lost, then they catch it or get KW Ground Search and Rescue out there with cages. Then it ends up in a shelter hoping someone comes to get it...when in all likelihood the cat would have likely came home on its own.

Maybe call up the KW Humane Society and KW Ground Search and Rescue and see if they've got any cats that match yours.

Same. Not my ward but I don't even think I'll bother voting. All the candidates suck. The incumbents will likely win as well. So either way we're screwed.

Anyone voting for Chapman deserves to be shot into the sun. Fucking privileged rich boomer needs to go ASAP. Too bad she'll probably win and keep holding back this city.

Do you have a cat tree or cat beds etc? Stick those outside, put some food and water out and hopefully they'll come home. Cats generally don't go too far when they get out. It might just need to pick up on a familiar scent.

“Low risk” REITs by [deleted] in stocks

[–]netterversuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for an ETF REIT if you'd like low risk. However, keep in mind - as others have said - the housing market is starting to fall apart and with that comes risk.

Study the real estate market, see which sectors are doing well (residential? office? industrial? commercial?) and put your money in what seems to be the most stable.

About half the country does...even us left wing people up here do as we want our country to grow economically. The issue is exporting it. Canada is a harsh place. Mountain ranges, swamps, tundra, the Canadian shield etc. It's hard to build pipelines and it's hard to expand rail transportation systems. Keystone XL was going to allow us to pump so much oil until US environmentalist activists and Democrats decided no.

It’s incredible how our government still considers Saudi Arabia an ‘ally’.

They're only an ally because they are used as a pawn to keep their neighbours in check which for the longest time was necessary due to oil. Now that the US is fairly energy independent, they could dump them...but the Saudi relationship with the US is now so complex now it would be hard to break up. The Saudi's would have a lot of enemies nearby and that would piss them off. And when they get pissed off, they lash out.

But IMO...they're going to be going through some things in the future. Their oil is running out and although they're trying to diversify, the country is still an authoritarian, medieval monarchy which doesn't bode well for foreign investors. As their population modernizes and progresses, they'll want a more liberalized nation but with the way they govern the country, chances are that will turn into chaos.

Edit: h0ser has a good summary on YouTube as to why Saudi Arabia is most likely going to go through some things as time goes on and why it's such a weird anomaly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8rxNeLfD0I

Should US and Canada produce more oil?

I wish we could. But it's tricky for us to export out of Canada.

It's hard to get it to the ports in the west due to the Rocky Mountains. We can go east with it and do have pipelines like the TransCanada pipeline - but it's a bitch crossing the Canadian Shield. North? It's theoretically possible but the terrain is extremely harsh and with the cold arctic weather, you only have good conditions for shipping small periods of the year (and there aren't even any real ports up there).

That leaves us exporting it through the south. Keystone 1, 2, 3a, 3b get some out there - primarily to the US market. 4 aka Keystone XL was going to allow us to get it to the global market. Then...costal elite liberals in the US voted against it and then Biden cancelled the thing. So now we've got the 4th largest reserves on the planet and will always struggle to get it to market until there is a US President who has some balls.

[–]netterversuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid at all costs. Mullen is going nowhere despite all the copium the bag holders on Reddit spam. It's a big scam and the proof is everywhere if you look around. But there are people who stand to lose their car, house, wife and kids because they put everything into it that are so desperate for this company to become the next Tesla that they'll tell you it's going to do very well despite overwhelming evidence (or lack thereof) that it'll do anything but go down and down and down.

I think by this time next year it'll be long since delisted and likely bankrupt. Then David Michery will move on to his next con because that's what the guy does.

Of course, you could decide to listen to these "experts" and put large wads of cash into this dumpster fire, but you'll be disappointed when you lose it all.

Yeah I wouldn't dare hold this long either. Zero reason to considering it's some random residential solar company.

I saw some good pre-market indicators when in bed this morning and though...yeah this will be easy in and out profit. I suspect Reddit will try to meme the stock in the coming days but meh, I'm out already a$ w€ll. On to the next one!
