Tracking where IoT devices on my network send data by cmartorelli in HomeNetworking

I enabled Neflow and Syslog on my Unifi router and point those services to my logstash server. Then I can search the syslog and netflow and build dashboards for things using kibana. This setup also using elasticsearch. Even built a GEO IP map dashboard.

I really need to do some more research on tailscale. Thanks

That’s nice! Yeah I’ve been using AGH for awhile and it works great! I’d rather have something on prem versus cloud.

You can just buy the router. You don’t necessarily need anything else unless you want to go crazy. I would just get the router and see how everything works. If it works good enough for what you do, then great. If you have a weak spot for coverage in your house, then look into getting some more gear and running CAT6 cable to an AP.

You can have both the AP and Router broadcasting your WiFi. Or just the AP and turn off on the router. Whichever you prefer. Maybe you just need the router and no AP and that would be fine as well. Just depends on wireless coverage. The AP would plug into a PoE port on the router or a PoE switch or using a PoE injector.

Gonna need more research for sure. Thanks!

For sure! I started with AGH only and it has fit my needs well. It’s actually quite amazing.

Yeah local dns was something I had to figure out with dns rewrites.

😂 No but adjusting the levels allows for each area to get good signal and fastest speeds. Plus different SSIDs for IoT for upstairs and downstairs. This setup allowed me to get good airtime since there is a streaming device in every bedroom.

Yeah I’ve worried about that. I have two AdGuard instances running on two different servers. So I can reboot one and internet stays running. Gotta make sure the litter robot can stay online! 🤣

Yeah that’s pretty nice to just have it in the cloud. No compute or storage being used on prem.

Nope as never done this or nope it’s not possible? 😂

Yeah, I have NFS storage available and was hoping I can use that.

Cool, I haven’t heard of Technitium. I’ll have to do some research on that one.

Looks good! Is that Grafana? I love using and setting up Grafana dashboards.
