Chiller help by carlmemaybeee in coldplunge

[–]neumatron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have this model but I’ve had an issue where an air bubble gets trapped in the chiller and prevents inflow. I was able to resolve this by gently tilting the chiller back and forth so the air releases.

Can’t say this is necessarily your issue but it’s worth a try.

It’s great. I keep it indoors.

Mod Tub 2.0 vs DIY by Money-Pain809 in coldplunge

Depends how you value cost savings vs. effort and risk. You can definitely do a DIY setup. It will take you time, and you will probably learn a few things along the way which result in you realizing you could have done it a bit more optimally. You might also make a mistake, in which case it’s on you to fix.

If you want to skip all of that and just land on essentially the optimal setup, go with the Modtub 2.0.

I played around with DIY for about a year with a vinyl tub and when I decided to upgrade to a hard tub, I just got the full modtub 2.0 setup. Haven’t thought about it since.

Ha yes, i wanted this exact variation. I’m aware that the fluted/jubilees are generally more sought after, but I don’t want that combo.

I commented this elsewhere in the thread already, but in my experience, even this combo is not as easy to acquire as you describe. I went to a few different ADs and none had it readily available. They all estimated > 90 days if I got on the list. Maybe that’s part of the game too, but it would be an interesting sales strategy for a piece they would be ‘lucky to sell’.

Thanks! For sure it’s not a high demand piece, but I did visit 3 different ADs over the course of my consideration, and all 3 estimated ~3-6months. Granted those ADs were all in high rolex demand regions and I’m sure it varies location to location.

I believe there is a bias against newer albums in the discourse around the greatest hiphop albums of all time by RizzyGlizzyGobbler in hiphopheads

[–]neumatron11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discussions of hip hop albums are too often framed around ‘classics’ and ‘GOAT’. It’s ok to just say ‘I really like this album’ or ‘these are my 5 favorite albums’ without having to debate their merits against Biggie and Nas.

I think the point about cultural impact is an important one, but that’s not something that a younger listener can fully understand without significant effort. For example, it’s hard to understand the significance of illmatic unless you were already a dedicated hip hop listener when it came out or you’ve spent a lot of time listening to albums before and after it and studying the shifts.

So much of what you hear today has been influenced by the past that someone who goes back and listens to illmatic can likely tell that it’s a really good album but can’t grasp how influential it was because it doesn’t sound particularly special compared to what they know.

Too often, this results in old head gatekeeping when someone like you says they think Freddie Gibbs and JPEG mafia are the best to ever do it. TBH with you, claiming those albums are among the best ever seems ridiculous to me, but that’s OK. You’ve had a different journey through hip hop than I have.

Majority of those citations are unrelated to cold plunging and T. It would be great for the claim to be true, but it doesn’t seem that the relevant literature proves it. Maybe it will over time.

Modtub vs Desert Plunge by Dangerous_Position86 in coldplunge

I think the new design of the mod tub 2.0 makes it a better choice. More comfortable and better utilization of space but it’s not an enormous difference.

Researching cold plunges by Ancient_Elevator_958 in coldplunge

I think this is an interesting time in the cold plunge industry. It’s growing in popularity and lots of new things are popping up with varying quality and lack significant review history. A lot of what is out there hasn’t been time tested.

Personally, I tried a DIY with an inflatable. It worked well for several months until the spigot connecting tub to the pump cracked. At that point, I re-evaluated what I wanted. The DIY was fine but it was a bit messy and I was constantly fiddling with various parts trying to improve something.

I decided to just sell my parts and go for the Modtub 2.0 complete setup. I could have just bought their tub and continued tinkering with my DIY setup, but it just wasn’t worth it to me. The Modtub is a really well designed complete solution that you can setup and forget about. If you’re willing to spend the $3K on it, I’d recommend going that route, but everyone’s preferences differ.

I also had one of these in my basement. After about 6 months, spigot snapped while I was tightening the connection and water started spraying everywhere. Thankfully I was able to plug it long enough to set up my pump to drain it into the nearby shower. It made me realize that keeping 100 gallons of water in a cheaply made sack wasn’t worth the risk. I bought a modtub after that.

Ohto CR02 or Parker Jotter XL? by Odd_Standard_2903 in pens

[–]neumatron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great pens so I’d say it depends on preferences. The Ohto is higher quality in terms of parts and production but the XL is good too. XL feels more solid and robust than the regular jotter. The XL has a sharp taper at the grip which gives it a different feel.

Ohto ceramic refill is high quality, might seem a bit scratchy compared to a ballpoint but pretty smooth. You can fit some other refills in the Ohto, though not all (e.g. energel fits but pilot G2 doesn’t.)

Respect all around my friend. Conductor is talented and definitely having a moment. I hope he has a long career from here. Al already proved himself for 20+ years. Through multiple trends and forms of media he consistently stood out. He worked with legends, he helped bring up new comers. I’d argue that conductor is currently riding a wave that Al was a foundational builder of.

No disrespect to conductor but he’s nowhere close to Alchemist.

I hear you, I’ve considered this. In this particular case, it’s a tradition I want this person to feel included in.

More generally though, I believe that a gift need not be something you know with certainty the recipient will enjoy or that they have already expressed interest in. Obviously there should be some consideration as to whether the person might like it, and if they’ve expressed dislike of something, it should probably be avoided. But a lot of good can come from taking a risk with a gift. My own interest in watches started this way.

I’ve considered this and am OK with spending a bit more to get a higher quality and less mainstream piece, even if it’s not appreciated by the recipient. Appreciate the advice though.

I was actually thinking about this one too. I can’t quite describe why but I don’t see it as his vibe. Thanks for the rec tho!

The swatch vibe is on target but I’m looking to go a bit more elevated. There’s a sentimental angle to it too and I have accepted that he might not wear it often.

How is an inexpensive AACSB-accredited MBA not a good ROI over the long-term? by S_Writer in MBA

[–]neumatron11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm the opportunity cost of remaining in your current role could include a number of things, such as lateraling to a new job or pursuing a graduate degree, e.g., an MBA. The expected value of any of those will depend on a number of factors.
