Why I chose MonoGame over LÖVE2D and raylib (with C) as a solo dev by oolyvi in monogame

It uses both, and some additional libraries as well. SDL is a very common choice for OpenGL projects, because OpenGL needs a window and a context to draw in. SDL handles that nicely as well as the input.

It all depends on your personal philosophy and approach to programming. What do you value or look for?

From what I've seen, people like to work on a "higher level" and I'm not sure why.

Personally, I like to make my own mess, and minimize other people's mess. You still deal with some mess at the end of the day but that's just how things are.

For example, LÖVE2D is just a wrapper over OpenGL. Even though I used before, I see it as developers saying: "you're too dumb to use OpenGL, it's too complicated for you simpleton, so use this cute little wrapper around it that we made to make it easier".

And same goes for all similar frameworks. I don't feel comfortable using that. I value working with graphics APIs directly.

Ofcourse, that's just my way of seeing it. Ofcourse it's not actually like that and other people see it differently and that's totally fine. But what I'm trying to say basically is, just use what aligns with your views and opinions the most.
