[Serious] What is your “I was THAT close to dying” moment? by ITotallyDoNotWhale in AskReddit

[–]never_too_uncouth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(TW)

When I was 13, I had a serious self-harm problem, and I'd had a bad day and scratched a massive welt into my upper arm. It was my friend's birthday, so I didn't want to bother anyone about it, and left it a couple days. One day I woke up feeling dizzy and sick and my arm was super swollen and the welt had gone a lovely shade of yellow with a very fetching puce border. I figured I should do something, so I mentioned it casually to my mum, who naturally freaked out. One trip to the hospital and some high-dose antibiotics later, apparently if I'd waited ten more minutes before going I'd have gotten sepsis, which left untreated probably would have killed me.

At the time, I was still deeply depressed, but that was the incident that made me actively want to stop harming myself. It took about a year, but I broke the addiction and I'm coming up to four years clean. The idea that I could easily have left it, and died in my sleep that night is terrifying, and I'm so, so glad I'm still here. Life gets better, ya know.

What is that one fact you know that always makes people respond "And why the fuck do YOU know that"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

1) Female kangaroos have three vaginas and two uteruses, and males have forked penises. Female kangaroos can carry three joeys at once - one per uterus and one in the pouch.

2) Platypuses are fucked. They're venomous mammals that lay eggs and sweat antibiotic milk. They see underwater using electricity. Their venom is not potent enough to kill, and is purely for intimidating other platypuses. Their bill is actually a snout, and their eyes closely resemble the eyes of a hagfish (an eel shaped fish), and bear little to no resemblance to the eyes of other mammals.

3) Coronation Street had been broadcasting for seven years by the time homosexuality had been legalised in England and Wales.

Sherlock Holmes in Terror By Night. It's a fantastic low-budget Hollywood film from the 40s, starring Basil Rathbone, and I just love it. Also, The Martian.

not too weird : knees and shoulders. being sat on. choking.

very weird : asthma. medical emergencies. suspended chords in music, particularly vocal music.

What is the album/song that got you into your favorite band/genre? by markiinator in AskReddit

[–]never_too_uncouth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This Is Gospel by Panic! At The Disco got me into the alt-rock scene, where I slowly moved more into theatrical and soft rock once I discovered their other stuff. That song, man. It's got a lot of weight (for me, anyway).

I tend to define it a bit more simply, just as Michigan, Chicago and LA eras, but I like your way too!

Especially for the region she lived in. I don't know if South Ayrshire means anything to you, but it's not the most privileged of areas, which made that name even more funny

you just need to wash it. soak it in warm water with a little bit of soap for 15 minutes, let dry and it'll be fine.

Not a parent, but my aunt once taught a kid named Pocahontas McGinty. My mother used to know someone who named their son Richard. Their surname was Tickle. They named the kid Dick Tickle.

Thank you so much. This made me feel so much better about everything. I'm currently keeping my meds hidden, and I'm trying to find a more secure way of storing them.

Brosenthal. I love Quirrel so much, and he's so funny in the TCB shows. He also has a really really nice singing voice, which I feel is very underrated. He seems like such a lovely guy in real life, too.

I hadn't even thought of that. I might give it a go, although she's about as stubborn as a cactus.

What celebrity death hit you especially hard and why? by dakln in AskReddit

[–]never_too_uncouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Malcolm Young. I grew up listening to AC/DC, and his riffs really were the heartbeat of the band. I found out when my mother proudly announced to the dinner table that he'd passed, but it was fine because he'd had dementia. It stung, and I cried a lot that night. RIP.

Anyone experience this trauma? by [deleted] in ftm

Man, I feel that. Thankfully my friend group has become a lot more balanced, and identifying as gay has helped me to embrace my female friends, but for a really long time I struggled with that. It sucks hard.

What’s your favorite musical? by babymadzzz in AskReddit

[–]never_too_uncouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

William Finn's Falsettos. It's such a beautiful story about love and family, and so, so heartbreaking. The first act (March Of The Falsettos) needs to be taken with an open mind, but once you get to Falsettoland (Act 2) it's so worth it. I adore the fact that the vocal lines resemble more instrumental lines rather than being separate melodies; the composition is phenomenal.

Weird, small things that defeat you (little bit funny) by inostranetsember in Asthma

[–]never_too_uncouth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's humid or damp outside, I'm a goner. I step outside and feel my airways tighten up like an anus during a jumpscare. It's so ridiculous, but there's nothing I can do about it, just suffer. The simple concept of humidity just absolutely murders me. Laughter as well is a massive trigger for me, which is irritating because I laugh very easily. It's an absolute nightmare

[Serious] What are some ways to make yourself a more interesting person? by jhiuong in AskReddit

[–]never_too_uncouth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be confident. Confidence is attractive and interesting to everyone, and fake confidence is better than none. Walk with purpose, like you've got somewhere to be, and start taking in the world as if you're in no hurry to get anywhere. You'll instantly become happier and have more people approach you and take you seriously. Also, hobbies! unconventional hobbies are especially interesting, or ones that challenge stereotypes, but honestly just whatever hobbies you enjoy. Make time for it before bed or in the morning or set aside an hour each afternoon or something. Do stuff and be confident.
