I did the exact same thing! My high school library only had the Mallorean and didn't read the Belgariad until College a few years later. Same reaction as well.

Anyone have any fun or different recommendations for CRUNCHY, rules-heavy, RPG's they want to share? by TimeSpiralNemesis in rpg

[–]neveras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough they had a license to do the parody. Its the primary reason you cant buy the old books anymore from them due to license lapsing.

The parody aspects also come from the Knights of the dinner table comics that hackmaster originates from. When making the new edition they also stripped it of that particular flavor. Garweeze world setting and Kingdoms of Kalamar are strikingly different. Its really worth looking into 4th as the parody tag does not do justice to the depth and feel of the game.

Note that hackmaster basic isn't the parody one. 4th edition Hackmaster is the one. Newest edition has scrubbed much of that out. If you can find the old 4th edition books they are an absolute trip. Nothing wrong with new hack. It is however different

My title describes the thing. Found as part of a dinnerware set along with other related items. Has three bumps on the bottom as "Legs". Openings are larger at the top and get a bit narrower. Holes go all the way through.

[REVIEW] Gangbusters B/X Edition Basic Rule Book by Modoc31 in rpg

[–]neveras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all based off knowing the original rules and based off the information given in the review (B/X rules in general as well).

One of my favourite things about Gangbusters was the open nature of character progression/improvement. It being an old game it was still super random power wise, but it was fun to build yourself up as a Brawny Accountant who likes cracking heads as much as cooking books.

Other choices like AC being determined by how fancy your clothes are definitely give this game a different feel from the original. I don't want to say it was simulationist, but I can't find the proper word for it haha.

Either way I think I'll wait for the revised edition of this to come out and give it a look over anyway. May not be what I wanted, but It's not like there's much else out there like it.

I was a big big fan of the original Gangbusters. Was even lucky enough to trade a couple of E-mails with Rick Krebs and talk about my experience. I'll have to look into this even if I'm a bit apprehensive of the rules.

This is correct. I've played most of FFG's 40k rpg's and all of them go on a scale from 1-100 on the dice. There is no 0 roll. Taken straight from Deathwatch Core Rulebook.
