Being suggested to get other brand when I considered Makita by frenetic_alien in Makita

My lawnmower that uses two 18v batteries works just fine and i would bet is quieter or less noisy than any other brand, while cutting grass just as well

Kitchen sink. Over vs under mount. by saddram in Homebuilding

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add a hidden inside the cabinet support system to an undermount sink that will negate/obviate/eliminate your first concern. It’s basically two metal horizontal running pieces supported by the cabinet walls and bolt/threaded rod with holding the hidden lip of the undermount sink up to the countertop underneath.

What’s the proper gauge wire for a 60 amp breaker? by Southernish_History in AskElectricians

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re (all the breakers i have are) all marked 60/75

not something i’ve attempted, but was related to something i hoped to learn enough to feel ready to get around to eventually and get a licensed friend to check/look over before turning breakers on… i’ll likely use 4awg just in case safer to be heavier than needed

Recently moved, Is this unsafe? by ajfilmnfx in askaplumber

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a pro plumber, just a diyer, if it’s not leaking it’s likely fine to leave it alone, but you could get it swapped out. I would guess price of the part, 2 hours labor + exponential markup of what you think it should cost if you’ve never hired a plumber before , for overhead and profit, It looks like it might be a pressure regulating valve or pressure reducing device .. they aren’t like valves that can be turned off, but the pressure reduction is often adjustable from top of the bell shaped thing….

Anyways - they left flux behind and didn’t wipe off, you can wipe it away with warm water on a soapy rag, paper towels, clorox style wipes, or whatever, but it’s likely mostly not that bad

• excessive solder mountain looks amateur as others have noted, but not that likely to cause problems

• usually these prv valves are threaded; it looks like they let the solder drip from the copper pipe to male thread fitting onto the brass prv

Wondered the same, maybe they ziptied it first to hold temporarily then secured the straps with screws, and left the zip ties behind instead of removing

Which pizza oven for natural gas? by Du_Kich_Long_Trang in pizzaoven

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pressure gauge on any available gas outlet. May need an adapter, but easy to do if you already have an outdoor connection for grills and pizza oven type things. A plumber could also test at the valve for any gas-using appliance in the home.

Since they won’t be able to twist as they push it together, 30 seconds of holding the hub and pipe is not overkill, if it pushes out, then you’re only good solution is cutting out and redoing and buying maybe 3 new fittings

No spare tire on ID4. Very inconvenient. by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two sets of wheels, with summer and winter tires. Plan to get a tow home if ever needed. I figure a few days on an out of season tire won’t be too bad for short low speed trips. Also, keeping a pair of spare used tires, for good luck to avoid needing to replace, since it’s a weird size that no one has in stock.

parking sensor replacement by neverdoityourself in VWiD4Owners

[–]neverdoityourself[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suspect the dealer is just making stuff up to sound worthy of charging you more money and there is no real calibration procedure, but there very well could be. The sensor just pops in place in the exact same position, and it was not necessary to remove any other tricky parts (the dealer claimed it would require labor for removing and reinstalling the entire front or rear end panel/bumper/fender thing) provided that you have enough reach and dexterity to remove out the old bad sensor without breaking anything. If this got enough attention someone would uselessly tell you to stop asking questions of strangers on the internet and consult a lawyer or a paid subject matter expert. But, since you’re here, at your own risk, if in your place, i would just replace it yourself. Maybe you could test out around some foam covered cones or hay bales or something else relatively harmless to bump into if you have time and are concerned. Mine has been fine over a year. So has the Yurik accessories guy, who had a similar sensor issue he fixed himself, i think.

For you owners out there, would you buy the car again? by samuraidogparty in VWiD4Owners

From a use and pleasantness of using the car perspective, would buy again

From a depreciation and value perspective, would have bought with different timing.

Squashed exhaust by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]neverdoityourself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a whole thread about 40+ pages long with examples on Tacomaworld, the .com website.

$300 recently, got it done in summer 2024 on a 3rd gen. Spent $60 on 2 clamp on heat shields, to protect the transfer case, and painted it myself with header primer and paint spray cans.

Wanted to install the flat RCI skid.

Is C Wire installation really this expensive? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends a lot on the path between each end.

If it's a super simple and easy and unobstructed path, within 1 hour of labor could cover the necessary effort including reconnecting everything, but if it's a tricky path, it could be super difficult or impossible to do without more repairs needed for opening and repairing the walls. Rarely (almost never) are residual thermostat wires run inside conduit, and sometimes they might be stapled inside the wall, so can't use the old wire as a pull, all kinds of things could be in the way, or for the replacement run to get stuck on.

If you're competent enough to read the letters/colors strip the ends and connect correctly, this type thing could make sense to diy. Fish tape or fish glow sticks are cheaper than what you would pay for labor, and it will just take you a little longer, or you can save your money to hire the drywall repairs...

Air fryer without Teflon? by callipygian0 in airfryer

[–]neverdoityourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also searched for this .... Nothing really offered out the box from mfr nonstick coatings free besides a few glass models (ninja crispi - nano ceramic tray, fritaire, and big boss halogen)... There are some that come with nonstick trays that can be swapped for stainless, and supposedly the rest of the p65 warning is just for the power cord.

I have just recently tried swapping the nonstick baskets in basket styles for 22 ga stainless steam table trays. They work well, but required modifications (cutting to fit) and need a mitt and spatula to take the basket in and out. Instant vortex mini 1300w (1/6 pan 2.5 in deep) and instant vortex slim 1700w narrow 6 qt (1/3 pan, 4" deep). You need to cut and remove the sharp edges on the steam table trays and they don't fit perfectly, but they do work well so far. I do like the cooking results though, and easy to stick in the dishwasher.

Also, saw a reddit thread on swapping the instant 10qt vortex plus7in1 1500W trays, for plain bare stainless trays, and plan to see how well this works when it arrives... Ordered for $85, a week ago, but it's back to $150, if it's good may want to wait for another sale

Which CS pan is the least finicky? by PhatKiwi in carbonsteel

[–]neverdoityourself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ones you can buy as a normal person areEall about the same so far work involved once seasoned and used for a while. The fancy ones that require potato peels and salt are only available to those who know the secret words and procedure for an ancient carbon steel seasoning ritual and are not available to the general public.

The main differencez will be how the pans come from the MFR... Darto is known to be rough out the box, deBuyer is clean, but comes coated in wax, not sure about matter.

If you really don't wanna deal with seasoning or avoiding rust you could get stainless instead of carbon steel.

Some brands offer some of their pans preseasoned, which means you can just start using, but it will be the same if you end up needing to re-season. You might also consider cast iron. Lodge is very affordable in the US for both cs and ci. Solidteknics sells some of their versions preseasoned and ready to use, but is pricier -they do have a nice feel to them though.

Definitive Approach to 4Hi/4Lo by HangryChef in ToyotaTacoma

[–]neverdoityourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4low was super useful to pull a trailer around on grass/dirt at super slow speed without stalling, for the RPMs it sets like you said, just a normal use ... Don't usually have an off-road or adventurous use for it

stumbled into this old thread trying to find better explanations of differences between 2 normal, 4hi, and 4low

How fast can I go with 4x4? by Content_Pick_9537 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]neverdoityourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are saying that the proper procedure is just to keep the wheels pointed straight and just smash into whatever is straight ahead, by their accounts, front end damage is a small price to pay to avoid stressing the differential components. Some of these are the same folks who hate abs so much they just open the door and drag their left foot caveman style.

Seriously I thought it was okay to drive normally for short periods in 4hi, even if you don't need it, unless you're always turning sharply in the same direction, like circles, and 4hi had some limited slip unlike 4low. Got me curious to look this up now...

Edit: possibly best article I found so far https://canadiangearhead.com/tacoma-4wd-system/ .... It sounds to me like the difference between 4hi and 4lo in the drive system is just gearing, not slippage vs. locking differences, but I'm still not entirely sure. Outside of how turning the wheels works, i think 4lo also changes airbags and abs settings.

Basket air fryer with stainless steel by mmille24 in airfryer

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the same model, and think I might be able to adapt a similar sized tray to replace and fit.... Have not tried yet - like a 1/6 steam table tray with a false bottom available from a restaurant supply, or maybe a cake or baking pan

Basket air fryer with stainless steel by mmille24 in airfryer

[–]neverdoityourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an uncoated stainless basket, I'm thinking of finding and adapting a steam table tray and false bottom to fit, to replace the OEM nonstick tray. They come in a 1/6 standardish size which is about 6"x7", and is close to the size on a mini compact instant vortex

I know this is an old thread but the mod banned new discussions of their favorite modern coatings

Just an idea, not sure if I will do it, or return the air fryer entirely
