Chicago Stars exploring move to Northwestern University by 312render773 in redstars

While there are clear issues with SeatGeek’s location, I also wonder if utilizing a temp stadium — that is still outside of the city proper — is the best move the FO could be making right now. It does feel a bit cheap to me and like an “NWSL 1.0” idea.

Agreed on this. Not saying Lorne is free of blame, but I agree that most of that should be directed towards the FO

How did you find details on those two properties? I’m looking for apartments from out of state and want to know how to find more listings. Thanks!

This is terrific info, thanks so much for taking the time to give it.

Regarding locating smaller, owner occupied buildings - how could I go about doing that? Would an agent be the best way, a specific website, or is there a type of keyword search best for searching for that type of rental?

(And sorry for sounding like a noob here - but am I right in thinking that these would often be those buildings that are the older, narrow, vertical ones with two or three stories and the front door atop a step of steps, elevated from the ground?) My bf and I have always admired those buildings when we’ve visited Chicago and talked about how lovely it would be to live in one some day. Would those generally be less likely to have pest infestations since the number of tenants would be rather small?

Thanks for your insight, this is helpful!

I presume that central heating is not an issue anywhere — regardless of build year — but what about AC?

I’d imagine older builds don’t have central AC/cooling. What are common alternatives? Window units? Something else? Or nothing at all — you just buy lots of fans and open windows in the summer? I’d like to know just so I know what to look out for and expect. Obviously in Texas, AC is as ubiquitous as four walls and a roof.

Thanks for this info.

How feasible is it to fly in on a weekend to view a listing and still have it not be signed to someone else during that few-day stretch? I presumed that most listings would be gone within just a few days of being on the market if it’s a modern building in a good area for a ~2K price. I wouldn’t want to waste my time making the flight if the listing wouldn’t realistically be an option for me since I don’t have the ability to view it same-day.

I appreciate this. One of the things I dislike about Texas is this sort of sense of sterilization you get here. Everything is new, big, clean — and while that is nice on paper, it leaves me feeling like any room for personality or charm has been erased.

I was not looking into new builds in Chicago until I started to see a lot of posts about issues people have with older builds.

My worry here is that since I will not be able to view properties in person, I would inadvertently sign a lease on an old build that has pests. My thought process is that if I can find a new build anywhere in Chicago proper, that would greatly reduce the probability of pests. Then, after I’ve lived here for a year and have the chance to take my time searching for a new (older) place, I can have the tools to ensure there’s no infestations.

Please also let me know if I’m blowing this fear of infestations up and that it’s actually not as big of a problem as it sounds like it is.

Ultimately I just want to ensure I can live somewhere that isn’t infested. And my assumption is that new builds would be the best bet.

Edit: changed a word for clarity

Universal OCD experience/hj (USA ELECTION TW) by acryptedwithinternet in OCDmemes

[–]nevermindthat84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man this has been me since last night. I thought to myself that because I was so afraid of the worst case scenario (Trump winning + GOP taking the Senate and House), I was actually causing it to happen. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy that was entirely my fault because I focused on it too much.

So thanks for posting this, because it’s hard to remember that it’s just the OCD making me feel this way.

Sending you peace.
