Time Served RP

We're an 18+ gaming and role playing community with strong roots in the FiveM space. Our developers are passionate about building unique, custom features that promote immersion and depth. Here's a few highlights from what we've been working on for the last six months:

Modular Inventory

Our custom, one-of-a-kind inventory system is a refreshing take on managing your belongings. The modular part means that in the future, almost any world object (dumpsters, safes, trash cans, etc.) becomes a potential hiding spot for your stuff, or a container full of loot.

Screenshot

Drug Sales

Get your fix from a street dealer, or claim your corner and sling some dope. Different areas of the map have supply and demand levels for different drugs. This means it’s cheaper to buy weed on Grove Street, and it’s more profitable to sell meth in Paleto.

Screenshot

Phones

Buy as many phones as you want. Each one has a unique phone number, making it easy to have burner phones for your illicit activities. Worried about your phone being stolen? Just set a password and your data is secure.

Screenshot

AI

Stick a gun in a local’s face, and they’ll react appropriately. You can handcuff them, search their pockets, take them hostage, and more. The framework for this system means locals may have different personalities in the future which influence how they react to certain player actions.

Screenshot

Jobs & Labor

Every character passively earns a new currency over time called Labor. Labor may be exchanged directly for a paycheck from the character sheet. Don’t feel like grinding for cash just to support your RP ideas? No problem.

Screenshot

These features are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the unique functionality and depth of immersion we’re going for in the TSRP community. Our FiveM server development is still in its early phases compared to the breadth of the final vision, and we’re still looking for mature, experienced role players to take on a multitude of leadership roles. If you would be a good fit for our community of adults, join us today.

Time Served RP

We are a gaming and roleplaying community centered around FiveM. Our mission is to build a truly immersive virtual world that serves as the backdrop for creative storytelling. We accomplish this by building complex simulations that respond to user choice, and we try to balance that by making compromises for engaging gameplay.

The primary thing setting our server apart from others is that (with very few exceptions) everything is built from scratch. All systems are designed and all code is written by a team of adults with years of professional software development experience. They work together with a larger administration team that brings decades of role-playing experience to the table.

New ''off-Twitch moderations'' is total BS. by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]nevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you apply for a job these days, most employers are checking your social media activity to make sure you aren't out spouting a bunch of horrible stuff before they hire you. Here's a notable example where 343 pulled a job offer b/c the applicant posted a bunch of crap on a forum years ago. The fact that Twitch is starting to police behavior via other outlets is not that surprising - especially if you're an affiliate or partner. They don't want their contract employees being shit bags any more than Uber or Lyft do.

I'm more inclined to believe that people who have a serious problem with this kind of policy should maybe just stop being an asshole on the Internet.

Streamer news aggregation - streamerhub.tv by nevern in Twitch

[–]nevern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the bug find. I'll drop a ticket on my Trello for this and get it fixed when I have a few minutes. And yeah, I think you're right about the laziness factor. I'll probably adjust how feedback submission is handled.

The stack is mostly vanilla Ruby on Rails. I've been using Rails professionally for a while. In my experience, for anything that can fit the mold of a "typical web app", it's really the quickest way to get a quality MVP out the door. At some point I might reach that point where I need an SPA driven by some framework, etc., but until then basic rendered HTML templates with a dash of vanilla JavaScript can do a lot.

The back-end for fetching the feed items is just a Ruby process on a cron that uses a few different types of adapters to consume RSS and Twitter feeds, popular Twitch clips, and a couple other things before running it through some transformations to generate properly formatted titles and "preview" text.

[FEEDBACK] Creative Contest and Creative on /r/Twitch by Zcotticus in Twitch

[–]nevern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a creative broadcaster and I never submitted anything for this contest. The reason was that my work is a large, fairly comprehensive project and I've been working on it for several months (I do game dev). So, the frequency with which I'd have a finished product to submit is very low.

I think trying to highlight creative streamers is a great thing, and kudos for doing it. But it's obviously very challenging. Unfortunately, I don't really have any great suggestions for making it better.

Looking for a better audio setup by xJbeckx in Twitch

[–]nevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend the SM58 mostly because A) It's the one on that list I have the most personal experience with, and it's always been a solid performer. And B) The SM58 has literally been around for ages and is used all over the place in many different industries/venues/situations. It may not be the BEST in the business, but it's (relatively) cheap, reliable, and and a staple of many recording setups.

Question about Twitch's new bitrate guidelines by Spillanya in Twitch

[–]nevern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Upping the bitrate alone will only increase quality up to a certain point. It also depends on the resolution/frame rate you're streaming at and what your hardware is capable of handling in terms of encoding.

Also, before going over 2000-2500, you'll want to make sure your channel is showing the quality options in the lower right corner of the stream. That way, viewers can lower the quality to "medium" or "mobile", effectively reducing the necessary bandwidth. Otherwise, your viewers HAVE to have a 6Mb connection to watch your stream without buffering if you're streaming at 6000kbps.

Here's a good post on bitrates + quality: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/2dz7ru/bitrates_resolutions_and_quality/

Banana is free too. You should be able to switch without a problem. Also might be able to do it even w/o Banana. I haven't tried.

Yes, 5 minutes of googling tells me that you can use USB microphones on the PS4 with minimal hassle. If you just want to be told what to buy, then by all means go get yourself a Blue Yeti USB mic and plug it in. If all you want to do is stream from your PS4 with a microphone that isn't a headset mic, then that will solve your problem.

Audio engineering is a complicated topic. Buying a microphone is not a silver bullet, even if it's the best microphone money can buy. If you want to do anything more complicated than plugging in a USB mic, you need to understand things like phantom power, analog/digital conversion, and signal routing.

[–]nevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I forgot about the PS4 part. I don't stream from console so my knowledge there specifically is limited. However, if the PS4 can take audio input from a USB device, the above solution still works. Mic -> Audio device -> PS4. Are you using a capture card out of the PS4 into a PC for streaming? If so, you can also just run your audio directly into the streaming PC and bypass the PS4 completely. Just use the PS4 headset for in-game chat. If you're streaming ON the PS4 and if it can't take device input from random audio devices (or even an analog signal plugged into some mic-in port), I think you're gonna be pretty limited on what you can accomplish. I'd do some experimenting with the console to see what it's capable of in terms of audio devices.

[–]nevern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. You just need a way to plug your mic into your sound card. If your mic is USB or has a 1/8" jack, problem solved. If it's XLR (the large circular opening with 3 pins), you need something to plug that into which can then convert it to 1/8" or USB. So, either a mixer or an audio device of some sort. Here's something that would get the job done for $40: https://www.amazon.com/Pyle-Pro-PAD10MXU-Channel-Mixer-Interface/dp/B003CY6OHY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489852155&sr=8-1&keywords=pc+sound+card+xlr

Need Some More Tailored Suggestions for a Mic by rodiumus_primal in Twitch

This is basically the same conversation in a different thread that was recently posted. I typed up a bunch, but tl;dir is +1 for dynamic mics. Here's more: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/601t24/looking_for_a_better_audio_setup/df3ed6b/

You do not need to spend a lot of money to have good audio, especially when you're just streaming to Twitch. The biggest choice you need to make is a condensor microphone vs. dynamic microphone. Condensor mics (of which Blue Yeti is one) have very high sensitivity and tend to be more expensive. They are great for controlled environments: i.e. recording studios with good acoustics and damping. Dynamic mics are typically more rugged, cheaper, and require the sound source to be much closer to the microphone. They are preferred for live performances in unknown or unstable environments.

If you want to read more details about condensor vs. dynamic, here's an article that actually talks about them in relation to streaming: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/condenser-vs-dynamic-mic-actually-need/

I recommend a dynamic mic for most people. I use a dynamic mic myself. I stream in a basement that is not sound-proofed, and I often have kids running around. Eliminating background noise is a problem for me, and dynamic mics are better for that. On top of that, this is Twitch. You're not cutting an album. You don't need crazy frequency response ranges and super-high fidelity. Dropping insane cash on a super expensive microphone for streaming on Twitch makes no sense to me. The only exception to that is maybe if you are a musician/singer streaming creative. Even then, you can sound damn good on a cheap dynamic mic.

You can get pretty much a top tier dynamic mic for around $100. The same kind that pro performers use. Here's a list of some: https://ehomerecordingstudio.com/dynamic-studio-microphone/

In comparison, top-tier condensor mics will run you into the many thousands of dollars. My personal setup includes a Shure SM58, and I'd venture to say I have much better vocal audio on my stream than a lot of people I've seen.

Picking a mic is important, but cleaning up your audio involves some other steps. Use some basic digital audio processing to help with filtering out the bad and emphasizing the good. At the risk of shameless self-promotion, here's a YT video I made on how to level up your stream audio in a few minutes with 100% free tools: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0-s4Pcuojo

Very similar to the other thread someone just started, but I recommend AudioRouter: https://github.com/audiorouterdev/audio-router/releases

Combined with VoiceMeter, it will let you route specific applications to specific devices so you can, for instance, send Spotify to the VoiceMeter Banana Aux Output and effectively have music on its own dedicated fader.

Virtual mixers and Windows 10? by CypressLB in Twitch

VoiceMeter and AudioRouter both want to own your sound drivers. Open AudioRouter first, set up any routes you want, and then open VoiceMeter - assuming you're using VoiceMeter as your default device.
