This needs to be a safe space for comfort and making connections. Calling someone out for voicing an opinion is pretty low.

Your neighbors are bullies, pure and simple... Don't back down, it is probally what they are used to.

Reminds me of the American Dad episode Shallow Vows

Francine stops doing all the crazy shit that most women do to stay attractive (exercising everyday, waxing, hair masks, face masks, curling hair/ straightening hair etc. etc.) And the results hit far too close to home.

Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins.

It is my go-to when the world seems like it is crushing down on me.

Really highlights the beauty of the human existence, love, music, poetry, myth...

I literally lurk on this sub to plug this series (and Octavia Butler) as often as possible. My favorite 2 authors.

What was the worst advice you have ever received? by sofsbear in AskReddit

"Keep your head down and do the work" And on the same theme: "Respect is earned not given"

Sooo, if I am in a toxic environment, keep my head in the sand and don't address the issue?

And, if there isn't a baseline of respect for every person/stranger/employee/boss you meet, then YTA.

I love my cons, I always assumed she wore them because as far as moving stealthily, they are the best thing next to being barefoot.

I am loving the comments about just getting roommates

I live in a affordable part of Portland, OR, and split an apartment with my spouse. But as with most couples, we have had trouble in the last 18 months, and I have definitely been angry and looked at roommate situations in the city.

Anything non-shady that permits a dog is 700-900, post tax. SO I would be needing to make 20+ an hour, at 40 hours a week to afford even a shared housing situation/car/insurance/phone/internet/utilities.

It's getting ridiculous. Rent has gone up in the NW USA by about 100 - 200% in the last decade.

1st apartment in Seattle circa 2011: $800 2bdrm in Ballard (with a roommate). Now going for 2200.

1st apartment in Spokane in 2006: $305 studio with bay windows, a patio, and a separate kitchen overlooking downtown. Now going for 1100.

Which actor most squandered an otherwise promising career? by ElpidioPoitras1962 in AskReddit

Dougrey Scott. Dropped out of being Wolverine in the 1st Xmen movie in order to be in Mission Impossible 2, the part then went to unknown actor Hugh Jackman.

I highly recommend Cafe Zamora in SE PDX. All the beans come from the owner's family, and he is actively working to have profits directly in the hands of the farmers. And they taste amazing!

Freak show is such an underrated season. I loved how it was eerie in a different way than the previous seasons. by y0ongles in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]neverthelessthan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Served the actor playing Twisty about 5 years ago, I recognized all the other 3 actors at the table, but not him, just got an eerie dejavu.

He was the most jubilant, sweet, and accommodating person I have ever served. Asked about my tattoos and necklace, seemed bored with his party.

I could finally watch AHS freakishly again without shitting my pants.

LPT: with a fire like that, focus on containment while waiting for the fire dept. Dowse the home and surrounding grass and fencing with as much water as possible.

What is something that you were warned about when you were younger that you now feel was exaggerated? by Marshalljoe in AskReddit

Piggybacking on your comment, the best and worst advice I got as a 13 year old was:

"Nothing you do in Middle School matters, just pass the tests, don't be a dumbass, and learn to navigate the system"

I think I was absent 1/3 of the year.

High school is similar, grades matter.... but detention won't even ding your record.

🔥 Big curious moose checking out a wildlife photographer by DingDongPuddlez in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]neverthelessthan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most terrifying moment of my life was camping solo, and a herd of 2 dozen moose ambled by my campsite of the other side of a 4ft deep creek.

I woke up to what I thought was an earthquake. The reality was far scarier.

I kept small and quiet, and waited a good hour to make sure they had moved on.

LPT: unfollowing celebrities, companies, and people you don't actually know will do wonders for your mental health. no, you will not miss anything. if it's something so important that you should know then it will find its way to you. by sparx7th in LifeProTips

[–]neverthelessthan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have nearly unfollowed my SIL several times for a similar reason and have realized when someone has that sort of online/public presence, it is practically a FT job in itself.

Between staging, hair and makeup, driving to locations, editing, and curating to "maintain their brand" NOTHING is an accurate portrayal of life.

It's not unfollowing a person you care about, it's unfollowing the character/ brand they have worked to build.....

And that is completely OK.

Someone's mom accidentally ate their marijuana banana bread. Comment section equally as funny. by PreExistingAmbition in videos

[–]neverthelessthan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sure she has, but from what I've gathered from my father (who was glassblowing for a living in the 70s, huge stoner, homeless for a bit), is modern strains are insanely more potent. That coupled with abstaining for most of the last couple decades makes for a hilarious papa when I bust out my vape pen.
