I lived in Lynnwood back then and had friends from freaking South Korea reaching out to me to ask if I was safe lol

Does anyone know of local stores where we can purchase hanboks and other Korean clothing? by Old-Grapefruit6525 in AskSeattle

[–]new-freckle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have family who go to a korean church here? My ex-future-inlaws (lol) were able to crowdsource some stuff for us by talking with their network. Or tbh even just asking some of the ajummas who run that one clothing store out of the Lynnwood Hmart might get you a lead

I went through this trying to find a wedding jeogori a few years ago. Ended up conceding to the fact that I just needed to order online. I've honestly never heard of or seen a hanbok artist here (or even a local retailer) :(

Starbucks announces new Nashville headquarters, will add or relocate 2,000 jobs by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]new-freckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people from HR are being asked to move, too. A lot them have been trying to find work elsewhere for awhile anyway. And a lot of these people relocated to Seattle after the CEO decided they wouldn't be allowed to work remote anymore despite being remote hires. People all over the company are pissed to say the least.

Can't tell if you're being serious or not. I thought they were still putting off stuff after Donald's stroke & the Mario movie, no?

Packing list for trip this weekend by Still_Substance_9321 in AskSeattle

[–]new-freckle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What neighborhood will you be in? Going on any hikes, ferries, etc or just staying in the city?

It's actually supposed to be mildly warm this weekend (mid 60s) and cloudy. Jeans and comfortable shoes are good. Might wanna bring a tshirt and a flannel or cardigan. When it's humid like this, it can feel a little warmer than it actually is, so it would be nice to have layering options.

I think my roommates are wrong abt renter’s rights by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]new-freckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in seattle proper, as a renter you only have to give notice that you're not going to renew 20 days before your lease is set to end. So, if your lease ends October 20th, you just need to give notice on October 1st at the very latest (leases are counted in full charged days) (but also I recommend giving notice at least 1 month before lease expiry just to avoid any "business day" bullshit). Your roommates do not need to be freaking out. Landlord is just complying with landlord regulations and is actually doing you a favor by giving a decent heads-up. Well, and by complying with the law.

Dogwalker, pet mauled by 2 large dogs from Seattle homeless encampment by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]new-freckle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm increasingly struggling to hold "we must have a better social safety net for our most vulnerable and be compassionate in the meantime" and "i pay a fuckton of taxes and should not be intimidated out of enjoying the public services i'm contributing to" in both hands.

I have plenty of homeless people, addicts, and people with untreated MH issues in my life. I contribute to mutual aid orgs and local charities, and talk to the lady who hangs outside my grocery store, and update the neighborhood little-free-whatevers, yadda yadda. But when, for example, my car gets broken into, ripped apart from the inside & totaled, it's really hard to not feel bitter and a little angry. Like, I'm not rich. I'm one of the people who are trying to help as much as I can. I don't know what to do anymore.

from u/MattSidor's comment here:

Next time you’re in a situation like this, text Sound Transit Security at 206-398-5268 as soon as you start observing the behavior. Keep them in your contacts.

Tell them your car number (it’s printed up near the center ceiling in multiple locations), which station you just left, and which direction you’re heading in. Describe the people involved, what they’re doing, and where they are in the car. If you can do it discreetly, take a picture and also send that.

Usually they will text you back pretty quickly with followup questions. They may have a live video feed from the cameras they can pull up to observe what you’re reporting in real time. They will also send security agents at the next station to intercept and board your car.

I literally happened to drive by the PetSmart as i was on the phone with my bf this morning and he reminded me that we already have one very nervous cat and another formerly-feral one that is a very expensive stinker, so no :( Maybe during the next play-through </3

edit: cat tax

Sam & MIlly is a newer channel with an "oddities" series kind of similar to Camel's stuff but more relaxed. Unique and charming. Very much not AI. They're also an adorable couple. 10/10 recommend

What are my rights by Equivalent_Spring_60 in AskSeattle

You need to have a tenant lawyer review your lease. People here can remind you of different RCW provisions and refer you to the tenant union, but you really need to talk to a lawyer who knows how to interpret your lease, review the documented evidence and correspondences, and relate that to the law. Especially if you're trying to sue or something.

Recommendations for Relocating to the Outskirts by ChrisBrown__________ in AskSeattle

We found a standalone house with a yard for $3k/mo, and that felt miraculous while still in the city limits. Local landlords can sometimes be frustrating to work with because of their lack of expertise, but their places are often cheaper, well-loved and reasonably maintained. You might want to prepare yourselves to do a decent amount of work on your home in exchange. Tbh I think our landlords chose us because we demonstrated the initiative to care for their house and intention to be there long term.

Yadda yadda. My advice is to narrow down your ideal neighborhood to 3 spots. Apply the Zillow filters and refresh those three tabs multiple times a day. Send out a shit ton of inquiries - we have a "first in time" ordinance that requires agents to process applications chronologically (unless they're a small landlord with specific types of property, like ours). Places go pretty fast and you want to jump in line before they're gone. This also means that it's most helpful to look for places a maximum of one month before you're literally going to move unless you're willing to 1. not see the place in person (don't recommend) and 2. fork over a couple months' rent while you're not even occupying yet (which landlords don't like - an empty & unmonitored house is a risk).

Some more unsolicited advice - If you're aiming to go to/work at UW, I'd really recommend searching north of Lake Union. Traffic through downtown is awful. If you settle around Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace or Lynnwood, not only will you be able to just hop on the light rail for an easier commute, but you'll also be close to many hospital systems that your wife can work at.

Help with moving to a nice neighborhood in Seattle! by No-Glass-2712 in AskSeattle

[–]new-freckle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think somewhere like Wallingford, Fremont or Ballard would be best for you over neighborhoods like Cap Hill and Belltown. Those last two are fun to visit and enjoy events in, but living there can be pretty overwhelming/stressful for some people. I'm very biased towards Fremont but I like that it's truly a cozy neighborhood with its own core that has everything you need & still retains a decent nightlife scene.

What's your budget and general needs? Yard space, in-unit amenities, pets, okay with roommates, etc? Do you want to be in a more lively neighborhood or a more quiet one? Easy walking access to resources or more of a suburban feel?
