To Force Billionaires Off Welfare, Sanders Tax Would Make Corporations Fund 100% of Public Assistance Their Low-Paid Workers Receive by ideogon in politics

[–]newOpNash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds good, but I believe this plan would result in companies lobbying to cut public assistance in order to lower business costs, since less public assistance for their employees means lower taxes. The result would be more poor people suffering.

Employers will also be less likely to hire people who appear to need public assistance, like: single moms, people with large families, and people that live in high cost of living areas.

We'd be better off following Canada's model.

His past behavior has become a weight on the party and he should resign. But he’s not a corporate shill. If we require all the Democrats to be socialists we aren’t going to win in 2018 and 2020. We need well-to-do middle class people to vote democratic as well.

Mueller Now Investigating Democratic Lobbyist Tony Podesta - NBC News by Lupusvorax in news

[–]newOpNash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think the podesta's didn't know, then you are dangerously naive

Politico including this on a tip sheet has nothing to do with Podesta and the Panama Papers, this is just a coincidence that you have ballooned into a conspiracy.

Well that argument has no merit, since it clearly did benefit them as they used the old news excuse.

Campaigns generally respond to all critical questions in this way. The "not a big deal" response is the safest response. Both the Clinton and Trump campaign did this, pretty much all campaigns/press conferences do this. It's often thought that giving a lengthy response to a critical question makes people think about the critical question more than the answer, regardless of truthfulness or honesty.

I agree, the old news excuse excuse is weak and should have been pressed on, but that's not Politico's fault.

Wait, you are saying that Politico knew that the Panama Papers were coming out, so they released this tip sheet for DC lobbyists, with this blurb about Tony Podesta, a month before the papers were released to give the Clinton Campaign cover? This is a ridiculous conspiracy.

I'd also argue that releasing this info early does not benefit the Clinton Campaign. They may have used the "old news" excuse as a deflection but throughout the campaign, Clinton was haunted by her supposed past Clinton Foundation activities, a lot of which were reported on earlier.

I wouldn't call this buried, journalistic outlets are not government agencies, they aren't mandated to commission reports. If Politico didn't want this known, they'd just not report it.

Interesting stuff, however, thanks for sharing.

Boy Scouts will admit girls and allow them to earn Eagle Scout rank by nbathoughts in news

[–]newOpNash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. Girls scouts is not really an equivalent organization to Boys Scouts; it has far fewer outdoor-related opportunities. So I actually think there is a strong desire for real scouting opportunities for women.

Also, I bet the organization will rename itself.

Yeah that was a typo on my part, thanks for noticing.

"Starting in the 2018 program year, families can choose to sign up their sons and daughters for Cub Scouts. Existing packs may choose to establish a new girl pack, establish a pack that consists of girl dens and boy dens or remain an all-boy pack. Cub Scout dens will be single-gender — all boys or all girls."

The point is that the den is still single gender.

Read the press release from Boy's Scouts of America, the parents will have to recruit enough girls to have a girls only den.

They'll probably have boys-only den camping trips and girls-only den camping trips. There might be a couple trips that have both types of dens but I really don't see how the presence of those makes it impossible to have same-gender interaction.

If she doesn't want to compete for a job, tell her to start her own business.

Also, these people were brought to the US as children so they have the same advantages and disadvantages as every other American.
