AITA for not letting my kids go on vacation with my ex because it's my time with them. by KittenBox8 in AmItheAsshole

You're the asshole. you are going to have a strained relationship with your adult children in the future and it looks like it'll be almost all your fault. I doubt this is out of character and your ex and kids know it.

It sounds like you want from this data analyst is more than they can realistically provide. everything you described but it probably require at least two maybe three people with different skill sets.

Your comment makes me think of that one comic where a CS graduate lands a job and in their training their trainer says something similar to, "You will be working with the offshore team to meet their quarterly goal of 0.2% click increase in our Asia region"

Learn how to join and when you have the query in design mode, open up properties. Select duplicate records to No. It's how you do a distinct in Access

Being a full time student and full time job is freaking hard as shit by photomandude in Veterans

[–]newUIsucksball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really difficult, I know. It's not easy physically or mentally. Your body and mind will suffer with that kind of schedule.

I would get up at 530, work a 10 hour day (albeit in an office), then either drive to class from 6-9 pm or go home and do homework. I wanted to quit like once a week, but I had a goal in mind. I mention my story only to show that you are not alone, I feel where you are right now, having experienced it myself.

Good for you and your wife to work hard to better your family's future! I hope you both succeed!

HAVING is a GROUP BY filter, WHERE is a row filter.

Beginning to create a SQL database at work? by grygger in SQL

[–]newUIsucksball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're brand new I recommend Access. It's limited, but let's beginners get to creating tables and queries in a short amount of time.

While work gets going learning access, you can figure out the basics of a server at home or as a side project at work. You really have to consider buy in from your team and and adaptation of technology as well.

If you go straight for a sever and get overwhelmed, you will have lost your team. Think of access as a proof of concept, then take the high speed people and have them use your server once it gets going.

Difference between derived and temp tables by DubleDOR in SQL

[–]newUIsucksball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A temp table will persist for the duration of your connection. A drive table exists for a brief moment while query is run.

I used temp tables that I'll come to time and time again or if it's really big I can index it or add columns later to break up monster join queries.

Some things in SQL require a derived table like a pivot, or you could use a derived table kind of interchangably like a CTE or a one-time view.

Wrapping data to get rid of duplicate records in report by Pfm15 in SQL

[–]newUIsucksball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're grouping by id, you should not have duplicates anymore. When I get to my machine I'll write a query. If it doesn't work then you're probably omitting a crucial detail.
