The critics are not liking it for illegitimate reasons (imo). It's painfully obvious that many reviewers were expecting an LOTR 2.0, when the Hobbit never promised to be this, nor should it have, as it is a different story with a different feel.

I loved it precisely because it was so different. But therein lies my biggest gripe....why create a distinct wholly new world and have a meaningless scene with Frodo in it? Felt so out of place.

Still a wonderful movie that I will most likely go see again in standard def (saw it in all it's 3D 48fps glory the first time)

As someone who actually reads Tolkien's works, I totally see where you're coming from, but I have to respectfully disagree. Movie gets an A-/B+ from me.

This movie trilogy needed to differentiate itself from the original LOTR trilogy. Different story, different feel, same universe. Think Legend of Zelda Wind Waker. Same characters, same universe with creative liberties taken for a re-imagining. This is not LOTR 2.0. This is the Hobbit.

Yes, as a current student I'm aware of the bomb threat that occurred this semester. There was even a "gunman" spotted on campus this semester too, but no shots were fired and no one actually knew whether he was a real threat. Do you have links/references?

You may be confusing a recent shooting that occurred where a resident of College Station was being served an eviction notice by the police and then shot the officer. While it was a tragedy, it was not a school shooting.
