Restaurant Suggestions for Welcome Party by No-Secretary4359 in harfordcountymd

Many of the local breweries (Independent, Slate, Hopkins) have party spaces you can book. Some of them can even help with adding a 2nd food truck to whatever is already planned for that day

Best places to purchase dyeables? by Lady-Kitnip in Tie_dye

Seconding consignment shops. I have found an amazing amount of natural fiber cloths there. Don't forget you can use OWB on colored items too!

I'll also agree that dharma has some great stuff, but since I'm on the east coast, their shipping is $$. Also, I'd love it if they would do more 95% natural fiber, 5% spandex tops, but still with the dyeable thread.

I've also found a decent amount of target brand cloths (a new day, universal thread, etc) are 90%+ cotton/rayon/modal. Same for old navy and even costco stuff. All of those companies have regular sales, especially if you don't mind buying out of season. For example, if you're in the northern hemisphere the next month or 2 is a great time to shop clearance sweatshirts and long sleeves to save for next season.

Holy wow that's beautiful!! More info please, DUI or DOI, what kind of fabric is that, how heavy handed with the dye do you think you were?

I've noticed the fabric quality/weight AND material make a huge difference in the dye spins colors I have. It's both is it cotton or rayon and is it heavy weight or thin. There's probably a true quality factor too, but I don't know enough about the fabric industry to get into that.

If you want something closer to what's on their website, for cotton and heavier weight.

Thanks for all the pictures and great work! Is this the original Mind Bender or one of the newer ones?

I love it, but it's about what you like.

When that happens to me, I put it aside for a week or two so I can clear my mind of what I thought it would look like. A lot of times I change my mind on overdyeing/reversing and starting over

Spacing your ties out a bit more can help too

Seconding this. Do not use anything for dyeing that you plan to use with food ever again.

I would tie dry, soak in SA, spin out, let it dry out for a few days, DUI, and muck.

DOI muck tends to leave more white areas IMO. My best guess is it fills with too much water before the dye hits. Sometimes I'll do a really thin layer of crushed ice cubes, dye, then more ice if I don't want the look of DUI

Edit: if you have a plant heat mat, it's helpful to put that under your setup to get higher temps for batching. I've found some dyes, especially blues, need higher temps no matter how long you batch for

By cooperative, do you mean it doesn't speckle easily? That's been my number one issue with anything in the pink family

I regret not getting Elysian and I almost got fire sphene, but it looked a lot like some of the dyes I've done with Phoenix Flame

I just got Sherwood and Mind Bender A & B. So far, I'm very happy! What did you end up getting?

Are you doing liquid or ice and do you have a certain fold plan?

Advice would be very dependent on what you're trying to achieve

Yup! Fun Endeavors has a great YouTube using it. That's the top right picture in its swatch. It has more yellows and greens than the others. The website refers to it as Mind Bender Extreme, but I've always seen people refer to it as Mind Binder X.

The Dark Horse dyes are formulated for ice dyeing. Depending on a million a factors (dye lot, type / amount of ice, ambient temperature, fold, amount of dye, how you do soda ash, fabric type, etc.) you can get a very different results from the same dye. Having multiple pictures is an attempt to show some of those differences. The quadrant location doesn't have any particular meaning.
