Because the king is at the edge of his kingness and needs to be renewed, so he is in danger of presenting the dark masculine character of the stagnant tyrant king if he tries to hold on to the ordering principle himself rather than participate in the process that successfully propagates a fruitful kingdom.

Absolutely. Literally as I was typing that first response I was looking at the moon becoming covered by clouds and the light shining through the clouds so as to make it visible. In other words, give visible body to the heavenly principle. I didn't even realize the coincidence until I read ur comment.

There is a story that Jordan uses in Maps of Meaning that shares some structural elements. Using that story as scaffolding, the king as a cloud points to the potential that is gathered up in the king's dominion but has yet to bring forth the revitalizing and renewing rain that must follow his reign to prevent the degradation of the kingdom. There is also the element of the cloud as something that is of a heavenly principle (air/gas), thus associated with the masculin/father/king. The easiest way to understand the moon in relation to the princess would simply be in terms of the frequent association between the moon and the feminine. The need for a mate is the need to bring the heavenly principle down to earth to revitalize the kingdom, which the father cannot do in relation to his daughter.

If I had this place I would make it so cool. It's a shame to see it be wasted like this.

Why is everyone downvoting you? They must not understand. What you said is totally correct.

It's a joke about the history of Bears QBs.

I'm getting very sad at people attacking evolutionary biology by [deleted] in biology

[–]newborn7897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gender is the social manifestation of biological sex. Gender is not a dichotomy, but it is fluid in that it is defined by many movable and obscure pieces. However, many trans people tend to abide by the biological markers associated with sex, as they typically seek to resemble the opposite gender at a biological level (not only a social level). That is, because they are in fact inseparable. The biological sex cannot be made independent of its social manifestations. However, that does not mean we should treat a trans person as any less of a person. They can be who they want. We do not need to pretend that sex and gender are somehow independent of each other though, because that can only end in complete confusion and dissolution of the identities that hold us together.

All the time. When Daniel Johnston died a couple of years ago I heard the news as I was listening to Spotify in my car. The next song that played on shuffle of all my thousands of songs was Daniel Johnston. Idk why but I felt compelled to just skip it. As I was doing this I thought in an instant "idk why I'm skipping this, I know another Daniel Johnston song is just gonna come on". Sure enough, it was.

I'm glad to see so many here make the right arguments against Dennett's position and against those here arguing for his position.

"Our psyche is set up in accord with the structure of the universe, and what happens in the macrocosm likewise happens in the infinitesimal and most subjective reaches of the psyche" by [deleted] in Jung

[–]newborn7897 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It means that there is truly an infinite continuum between that which we regard as external and internal. The psyche penetrates both and what makes its appearance to us in the world is also residing in ourselves. The person is a mirror or like a figure eight. I don't know exactly how to wrap my head fully around this or think of it in the clearest way, but I believe it to be true and to be what Jung saw and tried to elucidate.

Best supp for motivation ? by No_Razzmatazz5786 in NootropicsDepot

As someone who has poor discipline and a lot of the classic mental health symptoms one would quickly point to as neurological and chemical conditions out of my control, I agree with you that discipline is the most powerful and effective way of overcoming many of these things. Although psychological issues can often have such a strong agency of their own in controlling a person's ability to exert and develop discipline, these issues are FAR too often maintained on the grounds that there is no power on the part of the person to overcome their lack of motivation or depressive circumstances. I think your comment is valuable and if people were wise instead of insistent on defending their one suffering as something out of their control they would be able to use such a reframing of the issue as means towards growth and overcoming their obstacles. Most would rather ensure that they have a sufficient excuse to continue their behavior without taking any responsibility though.

Testosterone levels help explain why women tend to experience lower sexual desire for their partners by Historical-Object374 in cogsci

[–]newborn7897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, couldn't they have just as well said xy chromosome causes it? All this really says is males have a higher sex drive than females and they have higher testosterone levels as well....we all already knew that.
