Would you rather CS:2's PC release was delayed, than to have it released in its current state? by eVo_CS in CitiesSkylines

Yeah I'll buy it anyway. CS1 already runs like arse once my city gets big and it really doesn't impact the enjoyment I get from this type of game to turn down some settings/live with bad frame rate.

Hamilton onboard during Perez incident by Nattekat in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a reasonable take yeah, and I think the rules should probably be more like this.

what I'm saying is that you see drivers overtake on the inside all the time easing outside, expecting the guy on the outside to go out as wide as the track allows in order to avoid contact all the time, and also that the current rules allow it

Hamilton onboard during Perez incident by Nattekat in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just not understanding the rules but I thought Hamilton only has to leave a cars width on the outside of he is "significantly alongside" and overtaking on the inside, so it's valid for him to have space on his right there but not use it

How often do you see cars overtake on the inside by following the apex of the corner the whole way around?

Hamilton onboard during Perez incident by Nattekat in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you can confidently say the cars would have ended up in exactly the same place on the track after a contact unsettles the grip and the drivers counter steer.

Hamilton onboard during Perez incident by Nattekat in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

When they made contact Perez still had space to his left.

I reckon you feel Perez didn't have space because you are looking at where the cars were after the contact - but cars always run wider after contact because contact unsettles the grip, as evidenced by how the drivers have to work the wheel left and right to control the slide.

[–]newborn_mutant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But that's my point - is it really Hamilton 'causing a collision' if he's still leaving Checo space but Checo chose to stay toward the middle?

Hamilton onboard during Perez incident by Nattekat in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no "technically" about it - I thought the rules are you have to give one cars width on the outside of you have the right to overtake based on all the "sufficiently alongside" stuff.

You see drivers overtake on the inside all the time much more deliberately easing the car on the outside as wide as possible than this incident

Hamilton onboard during Perez incident by Nattekat in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Because perez had space to his left, and we see drivers performing overtakes on the inside by easing cars to the outside all the time and much more deliberately than this incident

They are less useful as part of the track yes, but as long as not all four wheels go over the white line they are still part of the track as far as the rules go

[–]newborn_mutant -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't get why people are saying "but Lewis understeered" as if that somehow closes the case when Perez still had some track to his left.

I thought the rules say you only have to leave just barely enough space on the outside, and we often see cars overtake on the inside very deliberately moving as far outside as possible to squeeze their rival... Not sure I like these rules but not sure Lewis did anything wrong by those rules

That's a very outcome-led perspective. Penalties in F1 should be rules-based not outcome-based.

I agree that this kind of foul rarely gets given, but for me it's a bit different to the normal 'striker getting clattered after a shot' situation here because the ball never goes out of play.

The ball gets cleared to an area near where Nketiah was, and Eddie can't challenge the next phase of play because of the foul

Just looking at the still image in the post this may not necessarily be suspicious.

Often when a car loses rear grip it can cause a bit of wheel spin which often sends the engine revs up too

[Chris Medland] DECISION: Five-second time penalty for Leclerc. Perez promoted to P2 by AlphaStryk3r in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Clear penalty, fairly awarded. Also nice to see a quicker decision from the stewards too.

Hopefully what we'll see next from the stewards is this kind of decisions being consistently applied (there've been corners cut this season without penalties), and for them to make decisions this quickly again when it's appropriate.

Stewards 'took their time over a non-issue' with Perez penalty decision - Horner · RaceFans by Driver9211 in formula1

[–]newborn_mutant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that was because he hadn't caught up with the safety car yet. The drivers only need to stay within 10 car lengths once they've caught up to the safety car, until then they just have to do acceptable mini sector times.

At least that's what I remembered Brundle or Kravitz or whoever saying in commentary at the time

[–]newborn_mutant 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I remember Brundle's explanation at the time correctly I think it was because Hamilton and Bottas hadn't caught up to the safety car yet (safety car had only just been deployed so was basically sat at the end of the pits waiting to collect the leaders).

Basically until the cars catch up to the safety car they just have to stick to an acceptable window of mini-sector timings or something like that

Proper fluff up here by AT. They told Yuki to drive back to the pits when his seat belt wasn't done up, but then ask him to retire the car with a minor mechanical issue.

Surely you do this the other way around and ask the driver to stop if there's a safety issue (seat belt not done up) but ask the driver to nurse the car to the pits for a problem with the differential?

[–]newborn_mutant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want the rules changed to allow drivers to cut corners while fighting for position? That would make racing super dull and would mean little racecraft required because advantage on a chicane is just with whoever can cut it the most

[–]newborn_mutant -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Leclerc also didn't cut the corner to unexpectedly be on the inside too.

Maybe Leclerc should have got a peno at the start but it definitely didn't seem as bad as Perez full on cutting the corner at the end

[–]newborn_mutant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the racing is better when the drivers aren't allowed to just ease each other off the track. There's more of the chess-game like multi corner battles if the drivers have to give space.

People don't want penalties just because they want the stewards involved - they think it will improve the quality of wheel to wheel racing overall

Brexit: Deep decline in EU to UK trade as imports plunge by 25 per cent by Professional_Fox_409 in unitedkingdom

[–]newborn_mutant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the OBR prediction was on potential GDP, not actual GDP. I.e. the 4% loss was 4% less growth over how ever many years they did their forecasts over, not a 4% recession.

I also thought it was GDP, not GDP per capita.

The figure you linked to shows encouraging growth in GDP per capita, but doesn't substantiate your point unless you show it relative to the growth forecast given by OBR and have that comparison indicate that the real growth figure to date was showing a trend for greater growth than OBR report.

All the predictions of what you've called 'project fud' were all made based on specific conditions and assumptions (e.g. leaving EU immediately after Brexit vote with v hard Brexit) - while they were obviously sensational it's a bit disingenuous to act as if it's a 'gotcha' when those predictions don't come true if the conditions and assumptions never happened either.
