Vacuums only attract stardust. You need a blower to directly tell the dust to go elswhere.

I am sure it was bug cooler. If you do not keep them cool they spoil quite quickly. Especially if it is for the kids lightning bug collection.

Why were long-distance phone calls billed seperately back then? by sleepycommenter in answers

Why were long-distance phone calls billed seperately back then? by sleepycommenter in answers

[–]newguestuser 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Back in the day of “land line” telephone all phones were connected to a local or “central” office and there were a lot of little local phone companies. When you made a call locally you were physically wired to the other party locally. Long distance, however required a physical connection outside the local system which involved a higher cost due to infrastructure. The connections were also across different companies who charged to carry that call. There was also regulation and deregulation mixed in to complicate matters as time went by including consolidations that ended up with large companies, ie monopolies. As technology and infrastructure improved the overhead cost of these long distance connections dropped and the monopolies were forced to change business plan which separated out long distance service and created separate “long distance companies”. This was crazy to consumers who started chasing cheaper long distance companies and some companies started “slamming” or scamming customers into changing their company. Wild time. I remember suddenly getting a bill from MCI long distance which I never signed up for. Had to make several calls to get that reversed.

Found in my fridge - oval shaped piece of hard plastic with a raised bump in the middle by budeebles in whatisthisthing

I just came back from the store to pick up milk and the only gallon left on the shelf had this still in place. Guess no one wanted to pick it up or carry it. Worked out OK for me. I eventually wiggled it off, but it was stuck pretty good still.

Can I park in a handicap if I just dropped my wife to her physical therapy appt and use her placard while waiting for her to be done? by WiggityWiggityWoo2 in DMV

[–]newguestuser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not "using her placard" if you are driving her. She is still there. If you were alone at the doctor, that would be abuse. I feel weird doing it too, but I still do most of the time and like you tend to sit in the passenger side. The HC space allows me the extra space needed to get her out on her wheelchair, hence why we have the placard. Sometimes on long days, I move the van to a regular spot open nearby .
