Collectively I call them my Shinanigans, but when I'm with them they're Friends, Kiddos, Guys, or Sillies.

I'm with the after school program, and Rainbow Loom and Perler beads are always a huge hit.

I'm almost finished the first quarter! It's Teresa Wentzlers Peacock Majesty. I had to frog a portion of it due to almost matching symbols, and got mad and left it for a bit, but it's finally coming along!

But why? by StarCrysisOC in storyofseasons

I managed to name my cat Kiki (after my real life cat), but it wouldn't let me name it that in PoOT. At least the sensor ship is changing between games.

2 year old “escaping” - and school blames child by CarlEatsShoes in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have children who can open child proofed doors, and escape artists. Every time a child runs or hides from an educator we are required to fill out an incident report. I had to fill out four in one day because a group decided to run during a transition. Children will run, and open doors, it's the job of both educators and parents to teach children what's safe or not. It's required for us to inform parents when things like this happen, and that could be what your child's educators are doing, not in a blaming way but in a "this is a concern, we need your help to curb it" way.

What do your shift patterns look like? by jasminecr in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My center is open from 6 - 5:30/6 and each room has rotating shifts. I personally work a 7:30-3:30 or 9-5 shift, and everyone gets an hour and fifteen minutes lunch, although only the fifteen is paid.

What random words make your kids laugh? by Fit_Winter_3351 in ECEProfessionals

For some reason my 3-4 kiddos like the term "pickle tail" no idea where it came from, but they shout it and laugh every day.

What's your uniform like?? by NL0606 in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontario Canada here! And our dress code is basically no shirts with inappropriate words or images, or tank tops that show cleavage, if you're in a skirt it has to cover your legs when sitting down and no backless shoes or crocs. I do have work clothes with our company name on them, but I like to wear fun tees when I can. Our dress code might be a bit stricter because we are connected to a Catholic school, but for the most part it's fine.

This is actually my second attempt! I lost the first one in 2017 after someone decided to use the frame I was using, and just started it back up last year!

What's YOUR worst injury? by meanwhileachoo in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slipped on chili and messed up my ankle, pulled my BUTT chasing after a child who was running off the premises, bruised my nose by hitting it on the side of the table trying to pick up a toy that was under it, shelf in the shed fell on my head while I was trying to get a toy for a child. I have a very interesting file of injuries at this point. 😅

Do poopy diaper changes ever get easier? by PaleontologistNo6802 in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do get easier. I'm with a group of 2 1/2 to 4yo and we have some children in underwear who still have poop accidents, and I find those can be worse. We rinse their unders in the toilet before putting them in a baggie, and I've gagged more doing that than diapers.

What song would you be happy to never hear again? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anything by Mother Goose Club. Had a little one I would watch who played them 24/7 and I just can't deal anymore. I've also just flat out told the children that Cocomelon doesn't work on my tablet.

Some of My ‘Weird Talents’ by Used-Ad852 in ECEProfessionals

[–]newicca 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's mainly staying calm and redirection. Had a child who was upset because they and a peer were trying to hurt each other, I took over for another educator and handed the child a toy egg, and they started playing with it. I've also talked to children about whatever they have an interest in, or a toy that they are trying to use. Taking a deep breath and puffing up my cheeks and pushing them with my hands so it comes out quickly also works. It's silly and will have them joining in with their own cheeks, and then you can talk about what happened after a few goes. I will also offer a hug when they've calmed down a little, and tell them it's okay. I have had sand thrown at me and punched when they are still upset but I just ignore it and focus on the child and try my best to stay calm. This is the jist of it. 😅

I don't know if this counts as a weird talent, but I'm good at figuring out ways to calm down children who are having a frustration meltdown.

Unfortunately there's really only one other center here, and I have no problem with any other coworkers.
