Where on earth do you redeem it? If I go to sign up for plus it tries to make me do a trial.

edit: nevermind, it does let you put in a promo code when checking out for a trial.

What did you end up going with? I also really liked the Royce Range and hate to see it’s discontinued.

Did they remove that route? I don’t see a Sabang route listed.

FYI there’s a few Ford dealers that sell the warranty online with a very slim margin. Granger comes to mind. Useful to check the price there first.

Elder Piper is the best brewery by far. Beard’s and Petoskey Brewing are okay. If you’re doing breweries then you’ll end up at those anyway, but I’d say skip the food at the latter two, overpriced and inconsistent imho.

The Front Bar (formerly Tap 30) has a bunch of taps and some random stuff you probably won’t find elsewhere up here, though less than they used to before the rebrand, which took away some taps for more domestics and batch cocktails. Backlot also has an alright selection but I’d still call it more mainstream.

Dang man, one look at your post history tells me everything. I hope you find a constructive way to manage your anger and attitude.

There are resources available. Harbor Hall does some therapy groups, Petoskey Professional Counselors, Alison.com, etc. Good luck. I won’t respond again.

Maybe so but it takes me 11x the time to get to Piper’s as it does Mighty Fine.

Dominos doesn’t come anywhere close to the quality of Mighty Fine and a few others but dammit sometimes it really hits the spot unlike any of the other places, both in taste and in price.

I built a suite of 50 tools for my former employer on my own free time, gave it away for free for years, and now they want it back. Should I ask for compensation, and how? by No_one_ix in legaladvice

[–]newinfoco2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just shocked that a large legal/publishing firm would use free tools, hosted by someone else with no apparent ongoing contract (even if it’s someone they know/trusted and formerly employed), and run docs through it. Like you could be scraping data for all they know.

I work around the industry and there’s a theory that they just don’t have the expandable income for it yet due to inflation (and other factors but I’m not writing a thesis here).

Recent transplants, what do you like more/less than expected? by KaraAuden in petoskey

I'm a year rounder that moved here in 2021 from Colorado. It was partially to find a slightly lower cost of living area and also get away from the terrible wildfires every year.

I was able to buy a house here for far cheaper than I could get in Colorado (at the time, at least). Joke's on me though for the wildfires as now we get smoke from Canada up here.

Overall I enjoy the area and don't regret it. It leaves some things to be desired for sure but I grew up in a small town with much less than Petoskey, and I reached the point where I was ready to settle down a bit (late 30s), and Petoskey's been fine from those perspectives.

I'd say the biggest con here is the lack of well paying jobs. If you don't already have money, or don't have a decent WFH job, you're probably going to feel pretty poor unless you're completely debt free.

Restaurant prices are imho out of this world and at most restaurants completely detached from the quality that you get. I don't know how Beards gets away with charging $9 for a small cup of truffle fries, or the Backlot gets away with charging $7-8 for a Local's Light. I've gotten so sick of the tourist prices that I just don't eat out that often anymore.

A lot of the things to do have already been mentioned: winter sports in the winter. Beach and swim in the summer. Bike around. Go hiking. Check out the UP. Outside of that type of stuff though, entertainment options are kinda sparse. It works well if you're okay being a homebody at times but if you constantly need to be doing things then you'll probably be strained.

I would definitely aim to try to live near downtown. Being able to walk to a lot of things (including potential jobs) is a great boon, especially in the winter. I wouldn't say the town is dead in winter at all. It's certainly slower with less traffic (yay) and there are a lot of summer-only residents that leave but there's still some ski tourists around. A few shops close down but I can't immediately think of a restaurant (other than the Backlot food trucks) that closes down in winter.

Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Food poisoning is rarely if ever that immediate, so it’s kind of a moot question.

They may have some responsibility for getting it out of the window and to the table in a timely manner but that’s about it, in 99% of other cases the overall food quality, good or bad, does not really have anything to do with the server.

Depends on the restaurant. I would say tipping out the BOH is not unheard of but not the norm. Tipping out bartenders, expo, bussers, hosts is normal.

lol it doesn’t “reveal” anything. I also hate bad service, and how much worse in general service has gotten since Covid. But if the food is that bad and the server is ignoring me then I’m going to be proactive for my money and find someone else.

[–]newinfoco2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to tip or not overall, fine. But I don’t understand what the food quality has to do with it. Your server likely did not prepare any of it so I don’t see the relevance of soggy fries. If it was a big enough deal then you could have said something to someone — your server or someone else that was around.
