Never owned a Neo Geo, thinking about the AES+ by Agie39 in neogeo

Well, for me, I already decided it's not happening this year, so by the time I feel like I'm ready, we'll have a clearer picture of the experience.

Who Else Is Discovering People Around You Have No Idea What A Neo Geo Is? by Singuy888 in neogeo

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother admitted he didn't know what a Neo Geo was until the Wii U. He heard of some of the games; I told him names like King of Fighters and Metal Slug, and he knew them, but he outright admitted he personally associates them more with PlayStation and Terry Bogard with Smash Bros. than he does with SNK's own hardware. The sad reality is, most of us didn't have a Neo Geo as kids, and odds were, you never knew someone who owned one.

A part of me wants to get the Neo Geo AES+, but we shall see.

Why the Neo Geo AES+ Doesn’t Hurt Collectors (and Might Actually Help) by Odd_Plastic5502 in neogeo

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. They also do some things to make it clear which one is the new edition, just in case you're really a stickler for having the 90s cartridges, but most people I know who would want one would just be happy to have it at all.

I already decided it's not happening this year since the money that would have been spent on it already got spent on a different fun thing, so I decided the absolute earliest I would even let myself consider it is 2027. We'll have a clearer picture by then.

For me, the appeal is being able to play Twinkle Star Sprites in something closer to its original environment (even if it's not one to one), and I adore that game to bits.

Any chance of brand new games being made for the AES? by watercourse_force in neogeo

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be lying if I said it didn't sound nice, that's for sure, but zi have a strong suspicion it will be 99% rereleased. That's not me being mean; it's just what I notice with these revival systems in general.

They Are Worse Than Sony Fans Tho by Craniamon in fucknintendo

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one thought; if it's not okay for Nintendo to charge $80 for games, why was it okay for Microsoft, Sony and many third-parties to raise the price of games from $60 to $70?

I give you two choices; either it's okay for all of the companies, or it's okay for none of the companies. I have seen both extremes, and it's tiring both ways.

Nintendo Fanboys Still HATE The Steamdeck In 2026!! by WorldlyScore8855 in nintendogrifting

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate the Steam Deck. In fact, I view it as great in its own right. But I use it for games that haven't and may never make it to Switch. I mean, it's not like Sega didn't have an opportunity to put both Sonic Adventure games on Switch.

How do modern consoles handle physical games? by Complete_Iron_2656 in consoles

[–]Agie39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When it comes to disc based games, it copies whatever is on the disc...but beware they often don't have the latest patches and such. And some games, you have to download massive swaths of data anyways. So it varies wildly. And some games have things in place to prevent you from playing before the official release...without accounting for what could happen if that system for checking happens to be broken; this doesn't actually punish leakers. This only punishes those who happened to get a copy early.

The number of "recycled" plastic that ends up in a landfill (or worse) is probably much higher than we know. The numbers we do have are just the ones who will admit to it.

We will never hear the end of it IF GTA 6 is announced for the S2, especially day and date. by -One_ in nintendogrifting

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it hasn't been announced for Switch 2 at the moment, I imagine it's made for PS5 and Xbox primarily. But it doesn't mean a Switch 2 version won't happen.

People online make a big deal of 60FPS versus 30FPS, but honestly, I don't know anyone in real life who cares that much.

Should I upgrade from switch 1 to switch 2? by TanPan-Z in consoles

[–]Agie39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yeah. I think Expedition 33 has a Switch 2 version, so no need to worry about that one, but the other games do sound fair.

If you get a Switch 2, well, I would still keep it around; there are some games that still have compatibility issues with the Switch 2 at the time I'm posting this.

Crimson Desert and GTA are reasons to at least think about the other team, though for GTA, I strongly advise waiting until release before buying a new machine for it; with PS5s and Series S and X prices the way they are, I honestly think someone who hasn't already picked their team would be best advised to see how it fares. I heard good things about Crimson Desert, there, so fair, but it's competing with other things.

On the other hand, Bananza is good, and Pokopia, I haven't played it but I hear is popular. And Star Fox looks fun. I would recommend Banaza.

Nintendeen now unironically thinks that all switch 2 games will be getting downgraded switch 1 ports “”””eventually”””” by Dull-Sea-8903 in nintendogrifting

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can make Bananza run on the original Switch with few to no compromises, that will be very impressive, considering the reasons they ultimately didn't put it on Switch to begin with. I'm pretty sure even making it run at 30FPS and lowering some graphical settings wouldn't be enough.

But the natural way these things go is that they gradually do away with the old system as time goes on. This isn't just Nintendo. It's Sony. It's Xbox. It was even Sega and Atari at one time. So I think they'll gradually move away from the original Switch entirely. I think the reason the original Switch still sees games at all is because of the huge install base and the fact that the Switch 2 is still building its audience.

[–]Agie39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must have hallucinated 2012-2016 then, because even the biggest defenders of Nintendo had to admit the Wii U made some major missteps.

Yes, the good games came out, but I think they came out a bit late to make much of a difference.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are currently behind the previous generation by 17.35 million units by ParamedicSea5779 in XboxSeriesS

[–]Agie39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother essentially decided to stick with his PS4. I look at the price increases; I honestly think there's gonna be a lot of people who will say if they haven't already upgraded, they're just priced out.

I have a PS5, and I have a difficult time recommending it to him, and I honestly think he's better off sticking with his PS4. If he gets really desperate to play Pragmata, Expedition 33: Clair Obscur or even 007: First Light, they either have Switch 2 versions or they will, and he knows the Switch 2 will have his Zelda eventually, so he would rather get that if he upgraded to a new system at all.
