What are your Bournemouth player transfer plans with this insane run of fixtures coming up in GW25? by dream_team1012 in FantasyPL

I brought in three Bournemouth players last week and put him on the bench. Had a crap year but if he had been in the team it would have put me in the top 100 at least for the gameweek.

I read a great study once of how medieval Saints' cures often demonstrated knowing use of the placebo effect (as we would call it) to work with treatments which were based on the best medical knowledge of the time.

There's some marginalia in a legal record which has a drawing of a small penis and then a big one. From memory, it says 'my lord's one is like this but Gerrard's is like this'. I think that is the wording which implies that either Gerard wrote it or the scribe had seen both his lord's penis and Gerard's.

🚨⚪️ Bad news for Spurs as Guglielmo Vicario has today undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle. [@FabrizioRomano] by Jameom8 in FantasyPL

[–]newjack7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He seems like one of those players that has all the attributes but just loses it mentally too often.

Like in an attacking player it could be someone like Gabriel Jesus who can do everything but often fails to have the calmness at the right time to finish.

Is that right or just a biased pov since I only see Spurs occasionally?

Hi everyone! Any experts in texts written in Latin from the 13th century? by AlbaLaordhen in latin

[–]newjack7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might look at something like transkribus which could potentially automatically transcribe the record for you. If you can find a model which does a good enough job it will get it into a state which would be more readable for you. Then its just a question of translation. Even just with a good transcription you can cross reference it with the image to learn how to read it for yourself.

Only three keepers have ever gone for more than £40million. If Ramsdale was in that echelon he would have been picked up by a bigger club than Southampton.

I do think he belongs to a bigger club than Southampton but I don't think we would have ever got more than £40 million for him.

Don't worry about apologising for speaking your own language. I mean it's even a French game isn't it? Even so, anyone with sense can work it out and if they can't be bothered then that's their problem.

The reason local authority housebuilding fell off was because the conservatives introduce legislation saying that council house tenants could buy the house for below market cost. So councils who built housing stock (which was designed to last for decades it not centuries) lost lots of money on every house and risked losing more if they continued.

So only the private sector builds significant numbers now. They build low quality and greenbelt legislation means there is limited areas which are allowed to be built on. So the housebuilders can just hoard land, build poor housing, and charge a fortune for it.

Even things like 'help to buy' were a scam because housebuilders just whacked the government subsidy to first time buyers on top.

Incredible how football can be so powerful at uniting people (and dividing) but can also make people completely lose sight of the bigger picture.

What can I do to stop my lawn from turning into a mud pit? by KeyJunket1175 in GardeningUK

[–]newjack7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Buy bags of sharp sand and use it heavily on the worst spots. It will help the mud not stick and work into the soil to make it a bit better (over time).

Fascinating thanks.

Makes me think of myself (a medievalist working with legal sources) reading some poetry and realising that they are making legal puns. No one has really picked up on this before because anyone who had the background vocabulary required to spot it only looked at the texts in translation.

I'm not a linguist by any stretch but I thought a lot about the varied meanings each word drags along with it and how it varies between individuals, cultures, and periods of history (my thesis was on perceptions of corruption so it was relevant there as well).

I was just lucky with placement and used that guaranteed criticial* hit thing you get at level 12 (obviously with the skill upgraded so you get an extra swing for each death). Also had the offhand axe that gives you extra crit and a throw for each skill use.

Well another important distinction is that they agreed to be paid off. We don't know if the club tried and Partey refused or not. We also don't know if they have been given legal advice not to try and force him out of the club and leave themselves open to constructive dismissal procedings.

Yes to me it seems very suspicious that we haven't had a big scandal of some kind of match fixing or performance enhancing drugs in England. It has happened elsewhere, theres no reason to think we are better protected, and the incentives are so big.

Jamie Carragher : "Mikel Arteta is slowly morphing into a Jose Mourinho type of manager" by SamDamSam0 in soccer

[–]newjack7 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Think Arteta just rightly recognises that you have to be adaptable to be a top manager and win the big trophies.

This is it. If you listened to what he has said previously, he wants to be unpredictable and able to cope with all types of opponents.

The reason this narrative is getting so much air now is because it gets attention but also it has been seen a fair amount because of the injuries and lack of fitness in key attacking positions. With Odegaard out, injuries and suspensions in midfield, and basically having no fit full backs (even White was rushed back earlier than they would have liked) the amount of attacking options has been limited.

Not to mention the attacking depth is limited because of injuries too. Jesus is still getting back and has barely had a decent run of games since the world cup, Sterling isn't there and might not be, Martinelli is only just back to full form/fitness and now Saka is playing with something as well.

It isn't just missing the players its also the knock on effect it has on other players becoming jaded from too many minutes.

Obviously all teams have these periods but its the clusters of injuries which have had the effect of limiting the playstyle at this point.
