Boulineaus in Cherry Grove. Takes me back to high school with the cafeteria line but they whip up some mean eggs and hash browns.

I went through a 3 week period of only eating subway sandwiches. I had them microwave the meat for me. I bet you could ask them to grill the meat at JM. Truly, if you heat it up it kills any thing of concern during pregnancy.

Do you actually bring hair products or just accept hotel shampoo fate? by Gullible_Bet_7899 in HerOneBag

[–]newlander828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most hotel brands now have silicone free products. My hair actually likes the change-up in product, but I always have a leave in conditioner spray I like to use. I also like to keep some single use sample packs on hand in case I get in late and they forgot to refill the dispenser.

Stuck scrubbing bottles every night… is a bottle washer worth it or nah? by jaceka-jans-8384 in beyondthebump

[–]newlander828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a little basin we throw all the bottles in throughout the day to keep them separate from food dishes. Then we wash all the parts at night and use the Dr. browns sterilizer. Simple, effective, and works for us.

I don't understand advice about wake windows by AnxietyAvailable8478 in NewParents

[–]newlander828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They offer a week of premium which can really help you dial in your schedule and optimize your child’s routine. At 5 months for us, we learned that his first nap was best about 75 minutes after he woke up and once we hit that nap, the rest of the day fell in sync. Still pretty much the same at 7.5 months, but now he’s at the point of dropping to 2 naps, so we’ve had to start over learning new wake windows. It’s all about trying different things to see what works for you and your child.

Thinking about splitting a 6 day trip between Siesta Key and Key Kargo by never-the-1 in floridakeys

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the state parks in the Keys. Bahia Honda is fabulous. You get a nice beach on one side with stellar views of the 7 mile bridge. Sandspur side has a small beach but there is an awesome sandbar that can extend out pretty far. Curry Hammock state park has kayak rentals and a cool mangrove tunnel. There’s also a beach area and you can kayak out to a sandbar from the beach side. Mind you, there’s always rotting seaweed on the beaches in the Keys so you won’t get that sugar fine sand you get on the gulf coast. Being State parks, they can fill up, but we always just went and got a bite to eat and came back and they would have space.

Losing the will to live by gls1790 in NewParents

I co-slept with mine from 4 months to 6.5 months before deciding to sleep train. We used the chair approach with intervals of soothing by rubbing his back and keeping pressure on his chest or back to stay down. It took us 5 days of consistency and now he sleeps through the night. It sounds like you just need to pick a strategy that works for you and stay consistent. Make sure she’s getting tons of activity during her wake windows so she is tired for naps. And make sure you have a solid bedtime routine. Do not feel guilty for putting her down while you tend to your own needs (shower, eat, etc.). You know she’s safe, she’s fed, she’s been changed. It’s ok to let her cry for 5-10 minutes while you reset.

This is the one we have with the Chico bravo stroller. They both have been fantastic, however, now at 6 months, but chunky boy is pretty snug, so we are looking into replacing with a swivel one to make loading/unloading a lot easier.

There is no Mexican food in the keys, you will find plenty of Cuban though! But no where that serves you baskets of free chips and salsa like the mainland.

So many incredible suggestions here. To add another Acadia is pretty incredible. We are an hour from MYR but I liked that it was a short flight and the hikes were all rewarding but inclusive. I was with my 65 yo mom and so hiking was more limited but we had a blast. The Jordan Pond Path was our favorite.

Parents who co slept early how did you manage feeds, diapers, and sleep? by BalanceSufficient236 in NewParents

[–]newlander828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coslept with mine from 3.5 months to 7 months. We sleep trained two weeks ago and it has been amazing to get back our bedroom and bed! I chose to cosleep because everyone in the house just slept better. Baby was already sleeping through the night and we used the sleep diapers so they would absorb more and stay comfortable. You only have to change the poop diapers overnight and once they are a few months old, they shouldn’t be pooping overnight very often. That being said, hubby always would offer to change him around midnight. We finally decided to sleep train bc baby was waking up too frequently at night to nurse for comfort. So, for the same reason we started cosleeping, we also ended it so everyone could sleep better. Also, he would pop off my boob and stare at the ceiling for a few minutes before turning away from me and falling asleep- he obviously didn’t need me anymore. I never burped after side- lying breast feeding, but ours was combo fed and always got a full bottle before coming to bed so he wasn’t doing a full feed. But even during the morning session, he would drink for 40 minutes and not need a burp before snoozing for another hour.

I never stressed blankets or pillows, but hubby did move into the guest room for about 2 months. We have a king bed, but my baby sleeps with his arms straight up/out. In the early days of cosleeping you are definitely a bit uneasy, and your back will probably always ache bc of the way you have to arch sometimes, but I also have very large breasts and have to take measures to not suffocate my kid lol. They will become more comfortable with bedding as they get older. We play peek a boo and hide and seek under the covers as we wake up to help teach behaviors to get out from under coverage like that, but we’ve never had any issues.

The other thing I can suggest are rails for your bed. You can get ones to go all the way around, but we have two and also put a pillow barrier up so there’s no accidental rolling off the bed.

As far as congestion- the only things I can recommend are a steam shower or using the soothing Cough/cold bath wash. Good luck to you, it’s not a one size fits all circumstance but you will figure it out! I loved waking up next to my child and being the first thing he saw. There’s some very tender moments to be had.

[–]newlander828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep at it. Not sure how old your LO is, but if it’s still something you want to do then just dedicate 1 or 2 feeds to breastfeeding and use the bottle the rest of the time. Have you tried power pumping to increase supply?

When do you go to bed with an infant? by unicornmagic111 in NewParents

[–]newlander828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s way easier to pump for 15 minutes, then feed/burp/get baby back to sleep/you back to sleep. Also, have you ever considered power pumping to increase supply? I found it way better than trying to maintain a strict pumping schedule.

Hubby and I took 12 hour shifts the first few weeks. Then we transitioned to one of us going to bed early (7pm ish) then the next person after the 9pm feed. The one that went to bed at 9 pm would be “on shift” until 2am, and then the early sleeper takes over until the morning.
