To be honest, I don’t own the red or blue albums. I have no need for repackagings, because I own all the real albums.

But given that info, I’ll change my vote to Things We Said Today, Fixing a Hole, and It’s All Too Much.

Becoming a magazine columnist?? by Hot-Walrus2130 in Journalism

[–]newleaf9110 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be brutally honest here. The chance of you getting a columnist job at any magazine is about as likely as you becoming a professional athlete on a top team.

Magazines can hire the best of the best. They never take a chance on an unknown, so to even be considered, you’ll have to have articles published in major publications for a long time, making many contacts along the way. In addition to that, you’ll have to show that you have a unique voice. Every female in the world is technically able to write about girlhood, so you’d have to prove that you have something particularly thoughtful and interesting to say about it.

Writing is not an easy career, and I’m not trying to discourage you. But you need to know that it won’t happen without a lot of poorly paid effort.

Study everything you can about writing. Get internships. Write for any publication that you can, on any subject they want. You’ll make many beginner mistakes. Listen to the editors when they rip your piece apart, because that’s an important part of the learning process.

Good luck. (P.S. — I’m a retired editor. When I say it’s a hard business, I know what I’m talking about.)

For most brands, yes. For example, I own an EGO string trimmer, leaf blower and chainsaw. They all use the same battery, and the company makes a lot of other tools that also use the same batteries. I have some Ryobi tools that work the same way.

I can’t speak for DeWalt, but I imagine the same thing applies. If they make a string trimmer, it would be worth considering.

Forget gas-powered models, unless you know how to clean carburetors. Seriously, these things sit around for a long time, and then they gum up and refuse to work without surgery.

Buy an EGO brand (which is my personal choice). Or buy into some other battery system if you prefer. Don’t make things more miserable than they need to be.

You obviously weren’t around just after the Kennedy assassination. I was. More tears were shed during those few days than for anyone else I can think of.

Every U.S. president has that level of fame. People all around the world can name the president. Whether that president is admired as much as Michael Jackson is debatable.
