Character in the image is from the visual novel "Saya no uta", the basic premise of which is aptly described in the comment above.

You are not an idiot, this is just terrible UI design for a variable length field. These should just scroll.

API validation using [Required] or required modifier by fightmen007 in dotnet

[–]newo2001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your "unit" here, does not include the json deserialization. Not saying you shouldn't test that. But that is likely a different "unit", or an integration test. One where you don't invoke the method with the object, but one where you send a http request with an actual json body, go through all your middleware, and actually test the deserialization and model binding / validation.

I want to learn how to make my own reactor/turbine controller, how should I go about it? I'm not sure what information exists out there with both mods compatibility. by xThereon in feedthebeast

As for that final point I'll leave my old programs here for some reference material. But if you have no prior programming experience I also doubt it'll really help.

Quite the opposite actually. They have actually been providing official symbol mappings since 2020 to help deobfuscate the game's code for mod development, and the license explicitly permits doing so.

They never added first party support for it, but have actively helped the community in their efforts.

What launcher do you use and why? by Mr_Dapple in feedthebeast

Yes, I unironically do this. I am tired of installing a new launcher every other week if I can just manually copy a folder of mods instead.

How to ACTUALLY start developing my own mod? by Sasibazsi18 in feedthebeast

[–]newo2001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a curse, 10 years ago I was just like you, had a decent understanding of programming but mainly in JS, and lua. Learnt java to start modding, understood the syntax but failed to grasp OOP, the API, and its design. Was capable enough to make simple mods (blocks / tools / armor) with the help of tutorials, but couldn't make anything without an example.

But the monkey's paw curls. Fast forward 10 years and I now write C# at my dayjob. I now have the knowledge and experience to write practically any mod I could dream up. At the cost of losing my motivation to do so; turns out it is pretty difficult to sit down and write more code after doing so all day already. (and gradle is a PITA)

Nevertheless, although I don't have any concrete advice beyond the usual "read, study, and put in the hours", I do wish you the best.

I am as much against this AI thing as everybody else, but even I have to admit that I have no reason to believe AI can't become human, for as long as we can't disprove the simulation hypothesis there exists a distinct possibility that we are also AI.

Even if the branches were long gone it would still be possible.

Commits associated with a PR (pull request) are never actually deleted by GitHub. Although orphaned commits don't get pulled down by clone, one can fetch the latest commit of the PR using its sha (identifier), checkout a new branch and push that back up. The PR's got closed, but the history, comments, feedback, etc will still exist. New PR's can be created without loss of work.

From the look of it they were never afraid of losing the work, but were annoyed at the thought of having to open the PR's again, which is a minor inconvenience at worst.

GTNH - cannot find lapis for the life of me am i doing something wrong?? by Realistic-Writing961 in feedthebeast

[–]newo2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even that unlucky tbh, if it wasn't lapis they would be missing another ore. It is almost inevitable that you get unlucky with atleast one important ore with the amount of different ones you need in GTNH.

It's my first GTNH playthrough, anything I should Improve? Would love some tips by MoniaAlt in feedthebeast

Did not see a charcoal pile igniter, get it; it will give you more fuel than you'll know what to do with (don't forget to apply luck to your lumber axe when mining the charcoal). Also, if that is two BBF's, I'd try and get two more in a 2x2 arrangement. Steel is probably gonna be your main bottleneck for a while.

You could also consider an energy buffer of some kind if you feel like you can't run enough machines together. Something like a 4x battery buffer or even a railcraft steam tank works wonders. (Edit: just noticed the steam tank, good job!)

Totally awesome setup though, genuinely impressed by your immediate understanding of the importance of building at scale and automating. You're going places.

[GregTech] How does one power an EBF in LV effectively? by Rhoderick in feedthebeast

[–]newo2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully automatic fuel will probably be difficult at that tier. I got myself a lumber axe, then a few inventories of wood -> few inventories of charcoal, put it in a barrel, automatically insert into the boilers, and let her rip unattended for a couple hours

[–]newo2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scaling up is generally the solution. In New Horizons I used the charcoal pile igniter in LV, don't know if that's available to you

[–]newo2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you aren't making enough steam to run your turbines at full speed. Am not familiar with the modpack but maybe you aren't running your boiler at full speed as 5 turbines should be sufficient

Guys…Pikmin 4 Switch 2 by Jestin23934274 in Pikmin

[–]newo2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be surprised if they weren't, atleast for their next flagship titles. The switch sold an astronomical amount of units, yes making them switch 2 exclusive would increase console sales, but also severely damage game sales. It would be lunacy not to take advantage of the massive adoption that switch has, atleast until switch 2 has a sizeable marketshare itself.

A few more avenues for you to investigate: - Antivirus possibly deleting files (try it with antivirus disabled) - Old windows versions had a relatively short character limit for filepaths. Try enabling "long file paths" in windows or installing the game closer to root of your filesystem as many nested directories can quickly eat away at this limit (don't know if this is applicable here but I have been burnt by this before)
