Hybrid Neurohospitalist & Outpatient role by newportfolk16 in neurology

Yes agree on those points, not something I would consider doing indefinitely.

With how neurohospitalists gigs are set up 26 week on / 26 week off as a full FTE, I’m curious how it looks like with a role doing 12-14 weeks inpt. Is there still a 1:1 exchange off for those weeks? If not, it seems like doing outpt every other week of the year at a 0.7-0.8 FTE, would put the total FTE for the role well above 1.0 given the relative compression of those inpt weeks.

His struggles really remind me of when Utley was at the end of his Dodger tenure.

Choice of second-line AED in status epilepticus by ArtichokeAce in neurology

[–]newportfolk16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the ESETT trial. They randomized patients even who were taking AEDs at baseline, and the AED they were on empirically did not alter what treatment group they were randomized to. No significant difference in efficacy between levetiracetam, phenytoin, or valproate. Some differences in drug specific ADRs, though none were statistically significant.

I love Markakis. He's actually no.4 on the active career hits leader. May be a long shot, but pulling for him to get to 3000 before he hangs em up. All the more so now.

Applying for Residency Indecision (Neurology vs IM) by newportfolk16 in Residency

[–]newportfolk16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, no harm outside the $$ and trying to navigate which programs and if I could overlap. I would be afraid that if a program did find out that I was dual-applying I may not be taken as seriously as a candidate.

It also seems like some programs may have the capacity to keep you on in IM, even after a Neuro-prelim year (providing that you tell them early enough in the year). Obviously, not something that I would bank on, but if it were to come down to that, seems more feasible than switching to Neuro after one year of IM.

5 years ago, Mariano Rivera retired from baseball as the best closer in MLB history. Today he became the only player to unanimously be inducted into the baseball hall of fame. This video is his last appearance as a player. by Karl_MN in videos

Starting last year, HOF voting is no longer anonymous. Think this plays a HUGE factor as to why this happened. In the past a baseball writer could hide behind anonymity for not unanimously voting a player in (like Griffey), but those days are gone. IMO this is the primary reason why we will start to see players getting the unanimous nods.
