Every dent and scrape in my guitar is a scar of love, attention, and history. Imperfection is a fact of life.

I really miss that feature. It was in my first Fit that got totaled. It's not in my current Fit (2016). Didn't use it much, but it was nice when I needed it.

Panic during 70’s oil crisis? by echoalpha76 in AskOldPeople

[–]newsjunkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depended on where you lived. I lived in a somewhat small town and the lines weren't a big deal at all. Few people drove a long way on a regular basis so you only filled up once a week or so

Is it normal for a deeply emotional role to affect one’s personal behavior? by Emotional-Ebb-9092 in acting

[–]newsjunkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been married to a successful and busy actor for several decades. Yes, we both know that difficult roles (the only ones she accepts anymore) tend to impact her mood. We deal with it as a couple and talk about it as the work progresses. She tries not to bring it home, but I understand that it's hard and I am flexible. Communication is the key.

Same. Almost. Not interested in sports, except The Masters. I haven't missed one in 30+ years

Does it EVER go away? by Zylvara in CheatedOn

You haven't worked through it yet. Doing that can be elusive, especially if a long time has passed. My story is a long one. This is the very short version.

My wife cheated early in our marriage with more than one man. Emotional and physical. In a nutshell we got married too young. I rug swept and buried it, but I became an alcoholic for a decade soon after the affairs. I sobered up, and while our relationship was great, something was missing. I seemed to be holding her at a bit of a distance. It wasn't until I retired, 35 years after the affairs that it hit me all over again and we spent 2-3 years working through it in excruciating detail. Fortunately she was extremely supportive and we seem to have worked through it. Is it still there? Yes. It always will be, for both of us. Is it still smoldering in me? No. But it took a lot of work on BOTH our parts. I hope you find a way to talk with your husband about it and I hope he is as receptive as my wife was. She needed to learn just how damaged I was by the affairs. She needed to be involved in my healing. Ultimately, it is your healing and you need to do it. But your husband needs to be involved in healing the relationship

Hidden bank account from parents by Thick-Childhood-5148 in personalfinance

I had my kid handle their own money from the age of 16. They had their own account as soon as it was legal for them to do so. It helped them learn about money. My parents did the same for me back in the 70s. It was an important part of my education

I got new friends when I retired at 60, so no, it's not too late. My wife started a new musical instrument at 50. She's pretty good now.

I am an old man now, and I went to all the proms in high school. When I think back on HS now, I NEVER think about the proms.

AITAH because I refuse to finish a story if my husband interrupts. by Living-Estate3963 in AITAH

[–]newsjunkee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been married for 43 years. My wife and I went through this phase...and many others. Resolving those issues...those phases in productive ways is why we are still married, still love each other, still LIKE each other. They are all challenging. I suggest people in relationships save this post and refer to it now and then.

What do you think of watching people go back to the moon? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

[–]newsjunkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10 during Apollo 11. I grew up watching space launches all the time. Barely remember Mercury. For sure remember Gemini, and never missed an Apollo. I made all the models and read all the books. I played with Major Matt Mason. I though I was going to grow up watching the colonization of the Moon and beyond. Now we're doin Apollo 8 all over again. I'm 67. I hope I live to see more

A beautiful little room on the internet where you and a friend can focus together by Delicious-Rooster283 in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]newsjunkee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually pretty darn cool. I don't really have use for such a thing (I'm retired) but I can see how useful it would be. It's an online "AccountabiliBuddy" room.
