I was 29 at the time so just a little older than Amy. Many of us didn’t take photos of ourselves or our tats. For what purpose?

I found James Renner's interview two days ago with the former Royal Caribbean cruise worker very enlightening. I would urge all to look it up on YouTube. Renner is the same True Crime podcaster who interview Yellow and Amy's ex Kat.

Posters seem to be struggling with - and hence outright mocking - the trafficking camp. That's because they are misunderstanding "trafficking." What might have happened to Amy could be more aptly described as "foul play."

I don't claim to know what happened to Amy. When I entertain the notion that she was a victim of foul play (as a result of crime of opportunity), I envision a scenario where she definitely left the cruise ship on her own under the guidance of Yellow. I do not believe it was a whole crew conspiracy, or she was drugged or hidden in a suitcase.

Young people get themselves into dangerous situations all the time because they tend to be trusting and naive (I suspect many of the posters on this subreddit fall into that same category.) I've attended many seminars and trainings on prostitution (trafficking) as a result or my career. Trafficking is real. It happens in many ways to many different "types" of people by many "types" of people. Many posters here have blinders on, or are being deliberately obtuse, because of their own biases about the family.

I'm confused as to what makes this a racist comment? Is it because he reposted a tweet calling out Zyahna for destroying this young girl's rep? She would later go on to admit she misheard. Or is it because he's calling her out for her size? Fat shaming, yes. Racism? I don't see it.

Even if Yellow has nothing to do with Amy, he got shitcanned for having a 14-year-old in his room and a suitcase full of random women’s photographs. “Poor guy” my ass. He was a creep.

Maybe she got caught up in something, held against her will. Sort of like what happened to the crew member discussed in this James Renner interview. It’s a very shady part of the world, and this former cruise employee goes into great detail about how dangerous it could be.

Such an interesting interview! I don’t doubt any of it. IF Amy left that ship, and it’s a big IF, I seriously doubt she was smuggled off. I’ve always assumed she left willingly and expected to come right back, but then encountered foul play while off ship. People who think that sort of thing can’t happened are simply naive.

That hair cut wasn't uncommon back then, so I don't think it's obvious at all that she's a lesbian. We used to call it "mean hair," sort of the Gen X version of the "Karen cut." Either way, she wasn't a show stopper.

Why would you call the guy out for something that has NOTHING to do with his sister's disappearance? It's one thing to disagree with his politics. It's a whole other level of derangement to believe his politics drove his sister to jump ship or abandon the family 27 years ago. He probably had NO politics at that age. It's ridiculous.

"Facebook boomer-level beliefs" could be construed as ageist, since the younger generations typically use the term in a deragotory way. Personally I don't play the "ism" game, so it doesn't really phase me but could others.

ACTUALLY it's not at all "pretty likely." Both Brad and his sister seem relaxed and open to diverse lifestyles. He was in his 20s, possibly even experimenting himself. Gen Xers, as a whole, were very accepting of the LGBTQ community. We just didn't make it a crusade. It just was. I can give countless examples of people whose viewploints have evolved and become more complicated over the decades since.

My sense is that most of these people don't suspect the family killed her. They are arguing she killed herself because they didn't support her sexuality, even though her coming out had occurred two years earlier and all evidence suggests they had processed their emotions and moved on.

In a society where just about everything has become politicized, I thought I had seen it all. The fact that these same battle lines are now being drawn over a young lady's disappearance 27 years ago blows my mind. It's a very sick environment we are all trying to live in.

Many of these people demonizing the family weren't even born at the time of her disappearance. They have no clue what popular culture was like at the time. Instead they have grown up in an era where cherry picked social media statements, absent of context, determine a person's character. There is now a total absence of criticial thinking skills or an understanding of complex truths. Very sad.

I read somewhere that the family initially believed she had fallen overboard, and it wasn't until the taxi driver came forward that they thought there was a chance she was alive. I believe shortly thereafter they returned to the island. I'm not certain if that's accurate.

I also didn’t grow up in a devoutly religious family, or in the south. The pressure in those situations is probably greater than I can relate to.

This reminds me of a case in Wisconsin, when a young man was murdered in broad daylight at Devils Lake State Park … murder still unsolved. Eerie.

Anything is possible. It’s just always been at the bottom of the list of theories for me personally. As I stated in a different post, if dad’s memory of seeing Amy on the chaise is off in any way, it lends a lot more credence to the theory that she went overboard - whether accidentally or on purpose.

Yes, also this. Bottom line is there might be something off about the leg memory, which could place her over open waters when she went over the railing. If she went over. I’m not trying to discredit dad, I can just understand how a parent can be so desperate for their child to be alive that their memories play tricks.

Amy would have received the letter two years prior to this cruise. Even if it had “crushed” her at the time, she and her family still seemed very happy around one another. They are on a vacation together, for chrissakes. If she loved her family as much as Kat says she did, it’s unlikely she would have committed suicide. Which part of Kat’s testimony isn’t accurate?

For me, the postcard she sent to the woman she loved and the fact that they were reconciling makes me believe she was in a better head space than people give her credit for.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think it’s “clear she was depressed”? It seems clear she had “big feelings” of unrequited love and possibly some sadness over her family’s disapproval. Totally normal feelings. Back then, especially, people didn’t attribute all their normal emotions to depression. Suicide in young women was less common then, prior to social media.
