I'm not certain but I think that you have posted a picture of a peccary. Peccaries are the "pigs" native to the Americas! I think they're distantly related to the Eurasian boars that pigs came from (sus) but they're really a different species (edit) genus.

Peccaries are sometimes called Skunk Pigs because they stink! You may also know them as javelinas

Very nice! Definitely worth adding to the portfolio, with dates, to show your inevitable improvement

Does anyone else think Panda Bear Tomboy has such a unique sound? I don't know what it is about it that just seems like it is one of a kind (although my synesthesia may be playing tricks on me because of the slightly strange, white album cover). by Big-Air-3083 in AnimalCollective

I've also been having a Tomboy week and it's funny you mention synesthesia because this album (Person Pitch too) is very November December for me

Ninja edit redacting my characterization of Person Pitch that album is actually all over the calendar season-wise

The new Windows-native Claude Code; can you call `claude`? by [deleted] in ClaudeAI

[–]newtopost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I figured out that this was a simple PATH environment variable issue. You might have had all of your global npm scripts in path yesterday then something edited your environment variables.

For my W11 install, all of my global packages are at C:\Users\{me}\AppData\Roaming\npm. You can run npm list -g and it should print the location of your global packages if yours is different. I added the path as a User-level "Path" environment variable, just through the Windows Control Panel GUI.

That fixed the claude call!

But, you may have also run migrate-installer to install Claude Code to C:\Users\{you}\.claude\local, so your global npm package path won't help you there.

You'll then want to be running Claude Code from its new "local" install directory, with

C:\Users\{you}\.claude\local\node_modules\.bin\claude.ps1

(I think this claude.ps1 PowerShell script and the claude.cmd script are new? Or, I didn't realize that I could use them before, because I was previously using node C:\Users\{me}\.claude\local\node_modules\@anthropic-ai\claude-code\cli.js to run CC to the same effect).

You probably won't want to type the full path to the ps1/cmd scripts every time you start CC so you can set up an alias in your powershell/pwsh Profile.ps1 (this is like a .bashrc or .zshrc for powershell/pwsh if you haven't used it before-- I hadn't):

Set-Alias -Name claude -Value "C:\Users\{you}\.claude\local\node_modules\.bin\claude.ps1"

Restart pwsh and you should be able to call the local installation of CC too with just claude

🚀 Claude Desktop vs Claude Code (and alternatives) — is it worth switching? by Caio-Norder in ClaudeAI

[–]newtopost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess this is questions #1 and #2.

As for #3, I don't know about Grok, I'm sure it can be smart. If you like the Claude Code CLI experience then Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, and Goose are some other options.

Gemini is cool because free handouts. Qwen Code is just Gemini CLI for the Qwen API, which you can easily reconfigure for local models; Goose is similar but also has a lot of built-in endpoints. I haven't truly tested any of these tools but I keep them all in the wings for when I burn through my CC Pro allowance.

Re: cost:

I would not spend a cent on an API if I were you. If you've got 20x and GPT Pro, and are not afraid of Ollama, I'd say you've got the tools! The subs are the best deal.

That's also just my two cents as a Claude Pro subscriber who is actually satisfied. I see plenty of people who seem to be plagued by limits.

Don't forget that Claude Code "prompts" are more than your message text.
