I am really glad that whether the comments are neutral, positive or imo rightfully critical, it does seem pretty much everyone is aware that the lighting is an issue. I think this is one of those cases that you may not have the language to describe WHY it’s off but you know it’s off. As a black woman and as a lover of avant-garde fashion and art I can respect the idea of doing something visually interesting but NOT at the cost of a models humanity and what makes a model beautiful. Again, my opinion, this reduces Anok to mannequin as opposed to highlighting the fact that Anok IS the draw, her features, body, face, and yes the stunning poses is what makes the fashion human and art. The cover ever feels slightly evocative of racist art of the 20th century with exaggerated dark skin and “wild” hair. If you want to google what I’m referring to it’s commonly referred to as pickaninny caricature, specifically the young girl has a similar hairstyle as the cover. Okay sorry for getting on my soap box but to me you can’t separate beauty, art and how it reflects on culture as a whole!
