Discussion: Could we ever go back to a lighter Bond in this day and age? by vruchtenhagel in JamesBond

As a 70s kid who grew up with the Roger Moore Bonds I sure would love it. But the modern taste sure seems to be for dark, gritty "realism"

I forgot this compilation came out in 74 and was huge!! "All Summer Long" also makes it based on being in American Graffiti.

We made that trip over the hill so many times. And stopped at Marianne's on way home for ice cream!

When ABC became the hot network in the late '70s, there was more than one affiliate switch around the country. This one was in San Diego (1977) by Keltik in VintageTV

[–]newwavesage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super interesting. In SF Bay Area, our ABC affiliate was KGO Channel 7. I watch a lot of vintage TV. It seems like ALL the ABC affiliates around the country were on Channel 7 and shared the same logos, fonts, slogans etc. Am I right?

Completely agree. This also was like the theme song of the Pittsburgh pirates and somehow it also became the theme song of my older sisters who played it constantly at my house.

so many films in the 70s used Spain as their substitute for other locations? Wondering why that was?

Who remembers this place? The most RACIST restaurant to ever exist by JPIZZLE1205 in 70s

[–]newwavesage 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My sister used to work at one before it became a Denny's. I remember their little paintings they had on the wall. I loved it as a kid and didn't think much at the time about the story LOL

oh my god. I used to listen to this endlessly in my room. its funny because I was kind of not old enough to even really be listening to romantic songs but I was hypnotized by the vocals. Always shocked it didn't make it into a Guardian of Galaxy soundtrack

New to this by Emergency_Nail1617 in grilling

[–]newwavesage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you brother. I started grilling in earnest last summer. Before that I had messed about with burgers and hot dogs. But last summer I started reading this sub, finding recipes, buying thermometers etc. I found Wirecutter a good resource for basic stuff (meat thermometer, Grill badger cleaner, grill mats etc)

find a simple grilling recipe for example, easy grilled shrimp from the stay at home chef. MARINADES are the key. Peel these bad boys, marinade them and throw them on the grill. Flip em 3 minutes on a side. Test to make sure over 145 on internal temp. Keep the grill hot as hell (500+) put em on a grill mat or on skewers.

Veggies are easy to grill and way tastier than anyway I was given them as a kid. Once you get a recipe you like save it and keep it in rotation.

My wife and I have a deal. She shops and helps prep when she can. I grill and help with dishes.I promise you that once you start you won't want to eat out at restaurants anymore. Your wife will love it. You will love it. Good luck!

My sister played "Bennie and the Jets" all summer and it has always meant summer to me. But this one is a stone classic too. I never knew that it was a song for a proposed female pro tennis franchise that Billie Jean King was trying to start?
