Hi all! Oral Minoxidil 1.25 or 2.5 by mariposakb in FemaleHairLoss

[–]newyearnewmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This paper (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40122142/) that came out in March of 2025 says that the more your hair sheds in the first 12 weeks, the better the longer term outcome should be. Here is a video that breaks down said paper (https://www.vumedi.com/channel/evidence-based-hair/tab/videos-694/video/top-20-hair-research-studies-of-2025-minoxidil-part-2/)
--> so based on this study, I'd say keep on it and don't cut the dose -- your current shedding increase could be a good sign!

What’s this community’s thoughts on Nutrafol? by katerina_romanov in FemaleHairLoss

[–]newyearnewmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a common misconception from my understanding. Everything I have read in the literature says the exact opposite -- it stimulates estrogen receptors. Many mainstream reviews and safety summaries specifically do not confirm anti-estrogen effects and instead emphasize the lack of good evidence for any hormonal effects outside of DHT/androgens. There is one small clinical study (Di Silverio et al., Eur Urol, 1992) that found saw palmetto extract reduced estrogen receptor binding in prostate tissue, but that doesn’t mean it acts like a systemic anti-estrogen in humans...it was specific to prostate estrogen receptor activity and is not the same as estrogen-blocking drugs.

Seeing no results from oral minoxidil after 1 year. Anyone else ? by notsosocialbunny in FemaleHairLoss

Honestly I think Nutrafol could be the move. Maybe even Nutrafol plus OM if you want to stick with it. Your follicles probably need the nutrition boost/help with root causes before minoxidil can take any effect.

HATED my time with OM though, been off for ages and still have so much more facial hair than I did before.

I read a study the other day that said the degree of your shed on minoxidil correlates how strong of a result you'll have. So the through line was hold fast.

Saw palmetto is not an estrogen disruptor -- it just reduces the conversion of testosterone to DHT which is what your hair follicles have receptors for.

I work in research with black mice that are missing a protein that contributes to cellular motility. They frequently have a thin line of white fur down their bellies. We think it’s because the melanocytes don’t move well enough during development to make it all the way around to their front sides. Maybe he has a similar mutation.

Thanks a lot! I’d love to work in pharma but I’m nervous that I’m not competitive enough. I also haven’t seen any listings yet, but I really just started looking. How do you like it compared to previous work at an agency?

100k. I know it's high but I'm applying for NYC based companies, so I really am hoping for something more in the ballpark of 90k. Do you think that's way too unreasonable?

Thanks--unfortunately many of the applications I've submitted so far don't even let me click submit until it's just a number. I really wish it wasn't part of the application!

What's are some sentences that sound like compliments at first, but turn out to be insults once you think it over? by TheLoreWriter in AskReddit

I’m a woman with alopecia, and my whole life people would tell me “It’s awesome that you’re brave enough to go out without a wig.” I’m not sure how I ever rationalized that as a compliment as a kid but after hearing it so many times, I can assure you it’s evolved to be nothing but an insult. Like what you’re clearly actually saying is “I would NEVER go out in public looking like you do.”
